He got some skills in his locker for sure, nice to see that he scored a goal also which is something he can become better on!

Don't think that's true at all. We were all agreed for Lucas moura for big money until PSG hijacked it.

The only certainty is we were in for him and didn't get him. Not going the extra mile might be a United signature tune in the transfer market.

I may be wrong about Fergie, and I hope I'm wiping egg off my face in the summer, but old people often become risk-averse.

Fergie's been "old" for decades.

The problem is from the "risk-averse" perspective, he's never had to spend more than £50m on a player, without going into additional agent fees and wages.

We're currently winning the league by having the best squad. A lot of which is made up by "half-punts". We'd be battling for fourth if we blew the whole transfer lot on just 1 player every couple of years

@WillAbsolute you think Valencia was a "can't fail" signing? We signed him because he looked good in a poor team so there was certainly a gamble there. We were in for Hazard, as well as supposedly agreeing a £25m+ deal with Lucas so I don't see how you can say Fergie isn't going for big name signings. And personally I wouldn't change our transfer policy for anybody else's. Our squad has the perfect blend of pure homegrown talent (Cleverley and Welbeck), experienced players brought in at a young age (Rio, Nani, Rooney) as well as promising foreign and domestic talent (Rafael, De Gea, Jones, Smalling).

Got a little lucky there, but some very nice skill there. Really does look like he has the ability and skills in his locker. Just need to iron things out and develop the raw talent. Glad to see him get a goal and Man of the match as well.

RvP was a 'can't fail' signing - similiar to Valencia and Young, experienced and proven in the Premiership.

As he gets older, Fergie seems more reluctant to risk big money on a player who can fail, like Hazard, for instance. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong in the next transfer window.

Really don't understand what you're getting at here... You want us to sign a big name player, we sign one of the best strikers in the world and then you say you want us to sign players for big sums if its not guaranteed to work? Makes sense... And for what it's worth, hazard was never a risk. He has been a fantastic player for a few years now and better then Valencia and young ever will be already. Hardly a "can fail signing". If anything, young and Valencia were much riskier signings.
Also what do you call Hernandez? None of us had a clue about him yet he turned into the bargain of the decade.

Damn. That's a really nice move. Seems like he can think more than one move ahead.

Just look on his 3rd touch: he brought the ball slightly to his left to create better angle, because he saw a good gap between 2 defenders and wanted to burst forward through them.

Then before he shot, he moved the ball slightly to his left foot; again, to create better angle to shoot.

And all these in one fluid move. Very clever player indeed.

I can't be bothered checking, so what match is that GIF from?

It's some nice play. Good skill and pace. He puts players on the back foot which is something our wingers haven't done well this season. More than that, it is just exciting and that's something we all want.

Last night's game. He had a few dazzling moments - and a few awful ones.

Zaha's highlights will alway be impressive; it's what he does in the interstices that will decide his career.

 Kudos, mate. I can see this becoming a new Cafism.

Didn't watch the match but few journalist who watched the match said that he was the best player on the pitch by miles.

Half time and England U21s lead Romania 1-0 thanks to a goal from Wilfried Zaha. The boy is special.

Every time I've seen Wilfried Zaha live, he's been the best player on the pitch by a mile.

The guy above is a journalist for Guardian and a West Ham fan.

He wasn't the best on the pitch "by a mile" last night but he was the best. Sterling was very good too.

Worth also remembering that the Romania team were absolute dog shit also.

Not really, he tries stuff like that all the time. He is more of a keep trying until it comes off type. At the moment he has a bit of the Gervinho's about him, some of the stuff that he does is great but some is absolutely awful.

I have been rather disparaging about him earlier in the thread but now I can see his potential. The question is if SAF can iron out his kinks a la Ronaldo. I can see us wanting to mould him like Ronaldo, to make him more direct and devastating. He has similar attributes to Ronny in his pace, power and skill. I do feel that Ronaldo had/has a better basic touch though.

I've seen a few people say this (or it may have just been you a few times...). What's changed? I don't see him doing anything different now to what he was doing then.

The difference was that people didn't watched him at all before us signing him and they had already made up their mind over him i.e he must be another over-rated, over-hyped, over-priced English youngster.

The funny thing is that I was reading the Crystal Palace forums, and they were saying that he's best form of the season came on Oct-November.

It's nice to see people change their mind and not be so stuborn but equally frustrating to see a promising young signing judged and written off on the back of nothing.

Yeah it's very frustrating.

I did watch him but don't let that bother you!

The past few games that I have seen him in he has had more end product. I think that I took an instant aversion toward him after the first few games that I saw him play, as his touch can be awful and he has a bit of the donkey about him, in that he will blaze a shot 30 yards over the bar or such like.

Perhaps now he is Manchester United player I want to believe that he can be great.

He looked very good yesterday, the more I see of him the more excited I am by his potential. Glad to see he plays more like a foreign winger than a English style winger, he looks to have a ton of tricks and flicks.

In this thread it's being reported that Wilfried Zaha was the best player on the pitch last night, whilst over in the Nick Powell thread it's being reported that Nick Powell was the best player on the pitch last night.

They played in different matches...

Seems quite promising. And he has a great name in Zaha.

Also quite handy for any tightwads still rocking the Saha shirts.

I didn't really notice a lot of people dismissing him, maybe I'm mistaken. I thought the majority (like myself) were just questioning the price.

Young british talent, innit. Plus a few clubs in for him.

It's a weird one, that given all the lack of value we hear about I always think we pay consistently over the odds for young or inexperienced talent. Certainly seems to be Fergies preference, obviously we know he prefers to make stars rather than buy them and usually he's bang on which is great. Just seems we generally shirk away from 'big money' signings but perhaps splurge unnecessarily on unproven talent.

Blame Ronaldo.

Zaha will be a top player for us, and I can see him going on to have a Ronaldo/Gary Bale type of effect in the next couple of years. The raw attributes are there, but for me, the first thing I look for in young attackers is self-belief. 'Arrogance' many call it, as they try and beat step-overs out of tricky young players, but I see that belief and desire to be the best player in the world from Zaha that Ronaldo/Bale had/have. His comment about only really seeing Ronnie/Messi above him supports this. These are the players that will win matches and trophies single-handedly.

So we can add myopia to his deficiencies. :smirk:

He's a big talent; but the wheels still in spin.

(He does remind me of Ronaldo though.)
