Only watched the goals highlights. He did really well to get that ball across for the first goal.

I just looked on google images to find a picture of Barthes' 'S/Z', and was about to post it when I noticed it had a prominent minge and arsehole on it. Quite nice ones too.

You are obviously hinting at Barthes credo that innueno is more powerful than illustration, as a comment on the purpose of showing Zaha highlights that doesn't show the really good bits he did? Devilishly clever.

Certainly looks the part. Needs to delete his twitter though, he keeps saying things like "who cares about doubters / haters" - yet they are the only people he ever replies to. He can't let those things get to him in the big time. Especially in a United shirt where every other fan in the World hates you.

Needs to cut back on those stepovers, but the same was said by some United fans about Ronaldo in his earlier days at OT.

Excellent performance, the best I've been able to watch from him. Seems to have a really good final product in him, which is important.

His talent is impossible to ignore. The lad has a very bright future ahead of him, I feel.

I keep hearing this, and I don't understand it personally. Why does he need to cut back on step-overs? The simplistic notion that 'stepover=showboating' is a bit silly to me. By definition, a stepover is simply a move to fool a defender into what direction you are going to go in. It is a useful tool when dribbling, and if Zaha, or any other dribbler uses stepovers to get past their men, why should they stop if it works? Because other 'honest' wingers don't?

Is the idea that all wingers adopt a Valencia style of play?

You would want him to cut out the step overs if it was screwing up good chances - from what's been posted it seems his end product is not suffering because of it so then he should be able to carry on doing it with a bit if flair if he chooses

You may be correct in what your saying, but I believe the reason he said he needs to stop the step overs, or cut down is because Step overs are great, but if you do the same thing everytime, the unpredictability becomes dead and with it dies a lot of the success of the rate of the step over.

I am not againt it at all and I know what you are reffering to, it seems almost so given on here that stepovers = negative, but I believe or am assuming he meant it in the way that too much of one thing can be bad,...

Perhaps. I mean, I personally don't think stepovers can ever be fully predictable, by definitiion of what it is. I mean, you pretend to touch the ball regularly in different directions, until you actually do touch it. A defender will surely never know exactly when you will touch it, and in what direction you will go.

The Valencia style will always be more predictable I reckon.

I was not saying he should stop it ,but rather know when to use it and when the more direct approach may be appropriate. As mentioned it can become predictable if used to excess.

Looks an interesting player. He does seem to hug the touch line a bit too much going by the clips I've seen. Definitely talented but I can also see him as one who is frustrating in the beginning.

From the clips (and his manager's comments) I'm very impressed by his passing most of all, because having watched him against us a year ago I already knew about the dose of Ronaldo's flair and his ability to beat players. What certainly wasnt there at the time was any noticeable passing. But it looks like thats come on leaps and bounds and its also very nice to see him being effective on the left and with his left footed delivery.

Looks very, very exciting. Seems two footed and has loads of flair. Very different from the typical English winger.

He seems like an excellent prospect.
He's very skilled, fast, big, etc. (all very useful attributes in this game) and also still very young.
It's safe to say he has a lot of room for improvement (and I don't mean that in a bad way). Obviously he's going to frustrate the living shit out of people on this forum at times, all players of his type seem to bring out the hate in a lot of people, however his ceiling is very high I reckon.
He's not lacking confidence, with a better understanding of the game and playing with the kind of footballers United have should only help.
He probably won't have much impact in his 1st season and will mostly be slowly trying to "click" with the team, while we might see more of what he can do the season after next.
He's definitely exciting, and a player that brings more entertainment to the game than most, I know not to expect a Ronaldo-esque player in Zaha and I won't, heck I'd be insane to, but I will say that I think he can become a very important player, with the right guidance and work effort he might just surprise all of us and exceed all of our expectations.

Best I've seen him. (I've seen him in 1.5 games prior to this :smirk:)

His passing was very good, and, for the most part, he released the ball when he should. Loads of potential.

I like how he's switched to Nike boots now too. Good for marketing;)

Did you see the last one? Doesnt seem to be a complete wing merchant in that one. He seems to be cutting in from both flanks as well dropping deep to receive and pass the ball. Pretty dynamic. Yes, not yet very refined but that will come :)

Apparently had a decent game and came off with a knock in the 60th minute.

Holloway went into Hyperbole though.

Ian Holloway on Zaha: "I find myself willing my other players to give it to him because the more he has it, the better my team does."

Ian Holloway on Zaha: "You just want to give him the ball."

Ian Holloway on Zaha: "Hopefully, a lot of fans around the country will see him still progress because it is so pure."

Ian Holloway on Zaha: "Good gracious me, it is quite unbelievable what he can do."

Ian Holloway on Zaha: "He just wants to get the ball and beat people, However many there are, he can do it.."

Ian Holloway on Zaha: "He is so unique. He is an untouched, pure talent. I've never worked with anyone like him."

I have a feeling that holloway rates him

Holloway wants Phelans job, he's been going for it even since the Rooney rant.

He likes to showboat, but he also has the end products so it doesn't matter. Obviously he has the talent.
