Please please please please please replace Suarez with Bony. Please.

I like him actually, but surely they also have other plans and don't really expect him to replace Suarez. it would be similar to us when we "replaced" Ronaldo with Valencia.

As Spurs and United have learned in the last few years, you simply can't replace these players. Spurs problems stemmed from board level, not the stature of their signings. A club like spurs simply can't directly replace bale, same with pool. United could have, but Glazers likely didn't allow it to happen.

Bony transfer would indicate that pool cannot replace him and will have to try to adapt their style imo.

Bony's a decent striker but probably too lazy to truly excel at a top club and a horrible, horrible, horrible replacement for Suarez. They are genuinely polar opposite players, not to mention the humongous gap in quality.

He actually looks a good striker, I thought that the first time I saw him (and he wasn't fully fit then). Very different type of player to Suarez though

Is this guy actually any good then? Went through the thread and a lot of people don't rate him at all. Why did City spend £28m on him? He's never really looked like a top quality striker to me and I thought the reason he was brought in during the January window was to provide some goals for their title charge. I think he has 1 goal in 5 games so far...

£70m on Mangala and Bony...seems a bit ridiculous really.

Edit - I probably shouldn't have bumped this thread as I just realised it's in the transfer forum.

Most people seem to think he will be a good player for City but I have never really been convinced. Doing well for a mid table side is no guarantee that you are good enough for a top side - Carroll and Ba come to mind (you could argue Berbatov as well).

(you could argue Berbatov as well).

Berbatov was PL goalscorer while at United. He scored a goal every two games for 3-4 seasons - his game/goal ratio is the same as Drogba for Chelsea. He didn't fit perfectly in our system at the time, but you can't really compare him with Ba and Carroll

"Didnt fit perfectly" is a pretty lenient way of putting it. I dont think Berbatov could ever have been a key/good player for a top team as he was like Zlatan, but just not quite good enough to get away with it.
Yes, he scored goals, but overall I think his transfer can be deemed a failure (considering we had Tevez, and the talk about Benzema at the time)

I like Bony as a player, I'm still surprised him and Aguero aren't playing together, yet Dzeko keeps getting the nod. I think he'll be a success next season, he's strong and quite good technically. He can feed a good player in and creates a lot from leading the line; generally on his own.

Is he injured or what?

Panning out as the bad signing we kind of predicted so far, especially if City start playing 4-5-1 more often

Still time though, especially next season if they remove Dzeko and Jovetic

Yeah been injured since the West Brom game, a shame as it was his best performance for City to date. He looked oddly nervous in his first few games, it was obvious he was trying to impress but at the same time didn't want to feck up. The one positive from City's collapse is that it has taken the edge off our games somewhat so maybe he'll be more confident when he plays, and he looked it just before the injury. I think he'll turn out to be a signing similar to Dzeko - perhaps a little disappointing overall, but at the same time providing a decent return and scoring some vital goals.

I just dont think City in their current state can get away with 2 strikers. Their defence is fragile and doesnt get much cover from midfield. So having 2 strikers on top of that seems like a bad idea

If they can make the defence and midfield solid again, they can play 2 strikers

I've been following him since his Eredivisie days and I'm a fan basically.

I think that in the long run he'll be a good signing for them. He's not a worldclass striker but he's very good in his link-up play and can finish too. In a combination with Aguero he'd be deadly I think, that's if City can sort out their midfield and defence. A very good backup option, I do think they overpaid for him though. Not really sure why he was brought in either unless they insist on playing with 2 strikers.

Not sure if he'll ever be their main man, but he's a good player.

Very harsh to label him as a bad signing already. He's only played a month of football for City so far due to the African Nations and an injury. In that time he only started two games in the league and scored one goal. Other than that he had five sub appearances, four of which were games against Barca, Liverpool and Burnley which they lost and the whole team looked quite poor in doing so.

I think given some time to find his feet for City, he'll be a decent signing for them as a different type of option to what they've had this season (I think he was bought largely as a Negredo replacement). It's obvious their system and manager isn't working out for them at the moment so its harsh to judge any new signing when even the most settled of their players seem off form and shaky.

He will score a few goals no doubt. Chances are you would play 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 under any new manager so it's a shame for him that he's missed games, as he may find himself on the bench a lot next season.

He's a good player from what he showed at Swansea

Negredo hadn't been replaced so our striking options were an injury-prone Aguero, Dzeko, and an injury-prone Jovetic who is not really a striker anyway. We had to play a few games with Milner as a makeshift striker which made clear to us the need to buy a striker. Bony was a safe but uninspiring choice. Personally I'd have preferred buying or loaning a cheaper striker and saving the money in the summer for a player like Icardi, Dybala or Lacazette. I was happy enough with Bony though, as I said he's a safe choice and it would be surprising if he was a total flop for us.

That makes sense, Negredo and Jovetic seem on their way out anyways. I think Bony indeed is a solid option for you guys, maybe not that spectacular but I've seen him rip apart defences for fun on his own in the Eredivisie (although that doesn't say much). I was impressed with how fast he adapted to the PL too, if he can recapture his goalscoring form from Vitesse you will have a great player on your books. He can add alot to a team if he's used right, I believe he will be a succes for you guys. He will be a much better fit than Jovetic. You massively overpaid, but it was januari after all.

Aguero, Dzeko and Bony would be plenty if you started using a 1-striker formation.
