Who wins euro 2024?

Portugal look good on paper but they got schooled by Croatia. I can't see Portugal winning it. Croatia might finally win something if it's not France. Can't take England seriously right now.

For me it’s between France and Germany. England could be a contender but the basically have no manager.

BTW there’s no forum for Copa America?

England would have to use the group games to grow in confidence - if they scrape through the group stages, they would probably be out in the first knockout game. They aren't going into this with the same confidence they had in the last Euros and WC

Definitely not England... mostly because Southgate is shite

Germany, Portugal or France. England with that keeper, defense and midfield is not winning anything.

I don’t understand the Germany shouts. They’ve been poor by their high standards for 8 years now and their team is nothing special:

Neuer
Kimmich Rudiger Tah Mittelstadt
Andrich Kroos Gundogan
Sane Havertz Musiala

Even taking the home ground factor into account, the added support comes with pressure that is 10 times larger for a country like themselves. I foresee a tournament very similar to Brazil’s in the 2014 World Cup less the 7-1 semi final loss. Comfortable 7/9 progression through the group, then scraping through the knockouts before being outclassed by a top cohesive team in Spain, maybe losing 2-1 after a late rally.

Obviously I’m not German though, so I’d love to hear what any Germans think of their chances.

Other than that, I don’t see much hope for England either. Just get the feeling that it’s one tournament too far for Southgate.

I reckon the favourites are in this order:
1) France
2) Spain
3) Portugal

They finally found a coach who is from their own system and who is not so heavy on the tactics and lets them play "the spanish way".. Also they have a very good generation of players now so yeah, one of the biggest favourites imho

What are we expecting from the defending Champions Italy this Euro's?

I wouldn't actually be shocked if we struggle to get out the group stage to be honest. Even not to shocked if we don't.

I think with Southgate as manager, this England team has peaked. Not the players, but him leading them all feels a bit stale now. He should have gone after the last tournament.

Think France are favorites and Spain a close second. Followed by England & Portugal.

But I fancy Germany to go all the way, albeit it's probably one of the weaker German squads i can recall.

Yep. Well, I would have got rid after the last Euro final. I thought it was an embarrassment.

I could see them going out in the groups tbh. Albania are awkward opponent who I reckon could get a draw off them and then pressure to not lose v Croatia and Spain.

Last time out it all clicked for Italy with a World class midfield of Jorginho-Veratti-Barella all at their peak. They still also had Bonnuci/Chellini for one last hurrah but defensively they'll be much weaker this time I reckon. Chiesa also had a fantastic tournament but struggled to reach the same heights since his ACL.

My motto in major international tournaments is generally don't underate the Italians.

They generally sneak up on you. One minute they're seemingly struggling and the next minute they've managed to navigate thier way to the final.

I don't know. Wirtz and Musiala are the best German talents I've seen and are already world class, Kroos is one of if not the best CM in the world right now, Rüdiger one of the best CBs and if Tah manages to replicate his club form then he's not worse than him. And Gündogan, although he still has to find his role in this team, is another world class player.

Not England - Still think leaving out Rashford and Grealish are two huge mistakes. Rashford to run at tired legs and don't think there is any player greater in the world holding up the ball than Jack Grealish, to waste time and slow the tempo of a game to draw a foul, also excellent technically. Crazy decision to leave him out.

For me its France that will win it.

Yeah, admittedly I'm not super up to date and didn't want to "overrate" the youngsters as I haven't watched much of either Wirtz or Musiala (outside of UCL games for him, anyway). I know they're super talented and rated though. And I agreed around Kroos & Gundo and to a lesser extent - Rudiger.

Maybe I am underrating your squad a little. I haven't kept up with international football all that much. Yet, I have you down as winning it ;). Btw, will Fullkrug be leading the line?

Havertz looks like the preferred option at the moment, Füllkrug probably will be his backup. But Undav also looked good in the few minutes he got in the last friendlies, he also could be an option as he is a bit of the middle ground between Havertz' and Füllkrug's profiles.

Yeah, Havertz had a strong second half of the season with Arsenal, so probably deserves that starting spot. At least some good to decent enough options.

edit: I didn't even know Gnabry never made the final squad. Has he just been dropped due to poor form?

As a german i dont see us progessing further then quarterfinals. If we go ahead of swiss in the group stage and beat maybe denmark in the round of 16, we meet the first placed team out of spain, croatia and italy in the last 8. I dont see us as favourites vs any of them.

Funny how a second place behind swiss in the groupstage will probably be lauded as clever and the easier way to a semi final.

He is injured again.

At this exact moment in time , I think Germany have just the right balance of worldclass experience , (but not too far over the hill) , and youthful risk . It's a 1 tournament deal.

Neuer , Rudiger , kimmich gundogan , kroos.
Then musiala , havertz , wirtz and whoever the wide speed merchants ? Sane , gnabry?

Sané could get into the starting line up but right now it looks as if Kroos and Andrich will start in CM and Wirtz, Musiala and Gündogan are playing in front of them. Full focus on technique and link up play. Even the fullbacks are quite slow with Mittelstädt and Kimmich. Our CBs are very fast, though.

Amazing how different the managerial skill sets are for winning an international cup competition relative to winning in the league. Almost a different sport entirely.

No rocket science degree required, but France are the clear favorite.

Does England have enough in the toolkit even if fortune falls their way? I don’t think so.

We didnt have confidence prior to the world cup and were in horrible form. We were absolutely woeful in the nation league games in the run up to the world cup and were relegated into tier 2. we didnt win any of our last 6 games before the world cup and there were a lot of calls to change manager before the tournament.

England have a lot of new players in this squad and it showed against iceland, but we have loads of quality and have performed well in the last 3 tournaments. England have as good a chance as any team and are rightfully one of the favourites, despite the hyperbole shite being spouted on here.

France is 0-0 against Canada. We were 3-0 up by this point in the game, so we're clearly better than France. Sonit's us.

It won't be England. Should be in the mix on squad talent and attacking options but with Southgate he will find a way to manage them out of a crucial game.

If they had a Jose or a LVG that I'd quite fancy to handle the pressure of a big match and make crucial decisions in tournament football I'd be on board with their chances.

I don’t think France will win it this year, although I appreciate they are the favourites. I think France, England and Portugal are the strongest three sides, but I think one of Portugal or England might just do it.

Spain are a dark horse for me, and the Germans are probably underrated too.
