Who replaces Ten Hag?

Why? I'd literally take Chris feckin' Wilder over ten Hag at this point.

Tuchel, Amorim, Motta and De Zerbri would all be fine. Especially the first three.

Inzaghi is already a very good manager. He's been managing for 8 years now. He did a very good job at Lazio, and has taken it to another level at Inter.

While Italian players rarely do well outside of Italy, Italian managers have generally done very well in The PL. I'd take him in a heartbeat.
 
I think that we need to work out what sort of football we want to play and then start worrying about managers. This is part of the problem we have had for a decade now. "That manager looks good, lets get them". And then when that doesn't work out we give a completely different style of manager 2-3 years to change 1/3rd of the squad to fit their designs before moving on again.

Your manager should be replaceable. Your style of football should largely remain unchanged within reason. City and Liverpool aren't going to change wholesale when Klopp leaves and when Pep moves on. You simply can't afford to do that in the modern game when even half decent players cost the big teams £50m+.

My mindset is like this:

Ten Hag is very likely not to be the United manager in 3 weeks time. But if he stays, my assumption is that it's because the "ideal candidate" is not (yet) available.

And it will be a stay of execution. If it's not vastly improved by October/November, he'll be gone. Early season, a top manager usually becomes unexpectedly available. So they might have a better chance of getting the right man then. Or Ten Hag does turn it all around somehow.

The above is not ideal. But neither is getting another manager now who doesn't suit how we want to play and isn't suitable to being the Manchester United manager. It's likely then in 2 years time we're in the same position as now.

In short, I'd rather United wait until the ideal manager is available, even if it takes a few more months. Rather than get the wrong person in now and have to persist with them for a couple of years. Then be tied to him when a the ideal man becomes available.

Another solution is getting rid of Erik and then getting someone like Solskjaer on a years deal with the agreement that he'll be replaced when the right man comes along. But I'm not sure who'd agree to that. And it probably wouldn't do the squad much good.

I'd prefer him over those listed. My top choice will be Hansi Flick or Inzaghi

I think it's very important to clear the decks again this summer and start this new INEOS era with a complete overhaul of all key positions, including the manager.

Alonso, Arteta and Amorim are the three best up and coming managers in football. Only one of them is attainable right now. I'd love to land Amorim.
 
I would rather have ETH stay . Atleast there is an injury reason for our abysmal performance this season.

I can't take Southgate. Maguire captaning, 5 man defence with lot of overpaid English players on the side.

Very true.

Right now it's just Ten Hag gaslighting everyone about his performance in the job. With Southgate the entire english media would be gaslighting United fans instead. But how would you feel if we get manager X in because he's available now and has a higher stock than Ten Hag does now. Then we get to November and Inzaghi has a bust-up with Inter and becomes available?

Can imagine then, Chelsea or someone would sack their manager and get him.

I'd still rather wait IF the correct manager isn't available (so presumably one who plays the style we want to implement, will support youth development and has the pedigree and bollocks to manage a huge club)

If the correct manager is available in 3 weeks time, then sure. Be ruthless and get him in.
 
If it's Southgate I will take sabbatical. There is no way I'm going to spend the weekends of my life next 2 or 3 years watching negative football again. Enough is enough.

I think they’d lose a majority of the fanbase with his hiring and I can’t imagine they’re oblivious to that. Also it does not suite what they’ve been talking about style…unless that style is tumescent football.

Agree. I said rash appointment, so a considered one would potentially be the opposite of what I said. Also, the back room staff aren’t really in yet to be able to set us up so changes aren’t as detrimental.
 
I think Southgate would break me, I just couldn't take it anymore. Gram Pothead doesn't seem ambitious enough (although the above photo moved me). There does feel something strangely right about Tuchel, like this may finally be his calling.

I think Potter is ambitious. And pretty smart. But not especially glamorous, and that, combined with Chelsea's chaos last season and inexperience working in environment of that scale, threw him and also meant players didn't respond as well as they needed to. Get the mooted Ajax move and win a couple of leagues plus a CL QF at the least, then moving to a Villa or Tottenham, and I could see him taking another 'powerhouse' club job 6 years down the line and doing quite well.
 
Can we get a poll on the host of managers linked to the club? Potter, Southgate, Flick, Tuchel, De Zerbi. Am I forgetting anyone? Should maybe include McKenna. Could include a stay with Erik option.

Would personally go for a upcoming coach. Motta, Iraola, De Zerbi, Amorim

I feel, with Tuchel, he'd expect instant results with us but this club is a long way from competing.

That’s just BS PR. Look at his goddamn profile and see if you want him or not? In an interview of course he is going to answer yes to all these questions. They’re just softening up the crowd in case he is appointed and everyone will be like “Ohhh he wants to bring desire back to the club :drool:“.

Despite tonight I still like Tuchel, but I'd be more excited about Amorim.

I think the difference between McKenna and Klopp/Jose when they first came to the PL is that they had already won big trophies with smaller clubs so could command respect. Over the past few years our players have been infamous for undermining our managers. Moyes faced an uphill task from the get go due to his pedigree if you listen to Rio's interviews. I am hoping that with the new structure there will be a huge clear-out and new standards will be set which take away any kind of player power that exists. If you read my posts, McKenna is my #1 choice to become our next manager. However, this is the only slight doubt I have about giving him the job.

I feel that it would be tough to prise away Inzaghi from Inter. He took them to the CL final last season and won the league with them this season. He may want to continue the project at Inter, which is a big club in Italy.
 
If we were making a change this season McClaren would now be in.
