Who replaces Ten Hag?

I still can't believe they'd actually hire Southgate. As much as I don't want a club that bows down to public pressure on everything, one look at fan reaction on this should be a bit of a warning shot. Don't see it happening, think it'll be Tuchel.

Southgate must be in serious consideration if so many different sources are mentioning it. Him as a United manager just doesn't register with me. I mean not in my wildest dreams could I ever imagine him even being in contention to be the United manager.

Will be shocking if he is appointed. I finally might take a break from United if he is made the manager.

Not even a single tier 1 United source has actually said anything about Southgate , his name has mostly been floated by sources whom I wouldn't even give second thought time to worry would be if Someone credible starts running with this .

Honestly at this moment I don't think press has any Idea who United's targets are to replace Ten Hag .

The part I really feel disturbing is the Southgate link. At first I thought it was a joke. Then, I thought it was just click bait from the medias. Bookies also started to jump in. And the rumours refused to go away and some even from sources that have link to the club.

I don't believe all the bookies and medias totally don't have any clue/info/link from the club. They surely know something one way or another. Hence, this is extremely worrying. If Southgate was appointed, we can all say goodbye to the high hope we have for real change from the Ineos Team.

I, for one, will take a long break from football. I can't spend the next 2 or 3 years of my weekend ruined. Really hope Ineos is different from Glazers.

Honestly I don't know how any of the Southgate hype is warranted. He's done okay-ish with the national team and what else? Surely our club's higher ups acknowledge that international and league football aren't the same? Heck, you don't see Roberto Martinez's name being bandied around when Belgium was ranked no.1.

Ye think his names being used so we can talk to other managers without any real links which won’t push other clubs to act faster as theirs a few teams after managers… at least with Martinez though his footballs better than Southgate’s.

I think they'll stick with him for now pointing out to our unprecedented injury crisis as a mitigating factor.

Overall I've come to terms about having to ditch him but the names bandied about inspire no confidence at all, for example I can't see how Tuchel is the right choice if we're going for a full on rebuild.
"unprecedented injury crisis"

We're not even in the top 3 clubs when it comes to number of injuries this season

Where did it go wrong for Flick with Germany? His Bayern team was extremely dominant. Has it ever been established/speculated on what went wrong?
Luckily we don't need to speculate as Amazon Prime produced a series of "All or nothing" at the WC 2022 and you can just watch it. Total carcrash of a manager, no inspiration, not convincing his players of anything, no ability to build a real team, no understanding of the general situation in Qatar and therefore a lack of focus.

Ive always had that feeling that Potter is nailed on for the United job.

The fact he's still out of work and has been linked with jobs like Ajax but never agrees to join anybody.

This is a smokescreen to make it look like nothing has been agreed with United in my opinion.

Southgate links are just being allowed to run as a smokescreen. The FA will probably extend his contract before the Euros without seeing what England do anyway!

I think what is certain is that whatever the Ineos team are planning is staying well under wraps until it’s the time that they want to reveal it. They don’t comment on speculation and just let the internet run with it.

Also, I’m hoping that the old notion of getting a manager in for a long period is taken off the table. We need a clear plan/path of style and staff and then a manager to execute - if that’s only 2 years then so be it…..that’s why managers like De Zerbi could be in the frame as even if he came for only a couple of years the correct structure would be in place for the next and the next…..

When ETH leaves we will be left with a squad of players that half we will be looking to shift on so Ineos have an almighty task in that area and it won’t be easy to do.

The first few days post FA Cup final will give us a clear indication what direction we are heading in.

Can't remember us going through like this in recent memory at least.
Yeah, it has been pretty insane. It isn't just about the number of players injured, but who as well. To have no fit left backs and centre backs is wildly unlucky.

Ineos have no track record whatsoever with football, since they’ve officially been rubber stamped on 21st February the form of the team has plummeted, all that grandeur, media leaks and player speeches by Brailsford and Sir Jim hasn’t done very much now has it!

After 27.7% control 21st February Premier League
P10 W2 D4 L4 GS17 GC21 Points 10
Overall
P13 W4 D5 L4 GS25 GC28

Negative Goal Difference, Drawing with Brentford(Luckily), Bournemouth (Luckily), Coventry(Luckily), Burnley (No words), thrashed by Palace, losing leads against Chelsea, Liverpool and Brentford.

Most of this is on the coach but nearly every game Sir Jim been present for we’ve lost or drawn. So Sir Jim stay away from the FA Cup Finsl for the men and the woman, I like what your doing but your already an unlucky mascot, watch the games remotely and let Blanc, Berrada, Wilcox and Ashworth when he comes run the football club as they are football men, send Brailsford back to Nice where he’ll be just in time to stop them qualifying for Europe!

Let’s not kid ourselves if a new coach comes and the 1 point per game continues, the fans will turn on INEOS, what have they done with Nice in 5 years ?
His so called better way as had Nice Yo Yo between 5th, 9th, 5th, 9th and currently 5th
with his wealth he should have been in the top 3 every season.

This is the worry for me already we are spiralling out of control, and INEOS are partially responsible as much as ETH, come out back him to the end of the season with firm targets, they didn’t they let the speculation engulf the club, ETH doesn’t do well with pressure we see it in games, so finishing my guess 9th this season will follow a pattern, if they want fans to really get behind the INEOS project, they need a hell of a summer transfer and who ever is the coach needs real credentials, if they appoint Southgate they would have lost 75% of the fan base from day one of next season!

It’s also important to note that buy out while not confirmed was in the process from Xmas EVE, United needing reinforcements, where were they?

So these are the two managers they come up with? That is…. Shocking
Looks like Ineos want to turn us into Nice 5th, 9th, 5th, 9th, 5th. So a Yo yo club from mid table to Europa League, if they are stupid enough to appoint Southgate, That’s what will happen, his team will be;

Southgate’s Team;
*Pickford, Dalot, *M Ghuei, H Maguire,
L Shaw, *A Wharton, K Mainoo, Bruno,
M Olise, *I Toney , Rashford
Squad Bench;
T Heaton, L Martinez, S Mctominay,
W Kambawla, *T Adbiyou, *A Gray, H Amass,
M Mount, Garnaucho, R Hojlund, *R Barkley, Amad, Wheatley, Lacey,

Hojlund and Garnaucho will be on the bench, Adam Wharton will be bought for £50m, Ghuei £55m and Olise for £60m so palace will have £175m burning a hole in their pocket, one things for sure Greenwood United career will finally be over, Southgate can’t stand him!

Genuinely see us becoming Brexit FC, and selling Onana, A Fernandez, AWB, Lindelof, Malacia, Casemiro, Antony, Sancho, Greenwood, DVB, Pellistri and Hanibal plus releasing Varane, Martial, Amrabat,
B Williams, Shoretire.

Get ready for Southgate Ball sitting deep playing counter attacking football, looking to pick teams off in the counter he’ll play 352 against the big teams and look to lose 1-0!

Strangely enough as much as I hate the thought of Southgate and I do, he will bring a different culture to the club, he will give youth a chance and I doubt if even he could lose 18 out of 48 matches in a season with a decent squad assembled for him.

If Pochettino is available, I think he would be perfect for our long strategy. Chelsea started off this season badly with too many young players and slowly the team is playing better football. I think he would be a better choice than Tuchel with much more experience in the English league.

I've clearly not been keeping close enough track so I'm confused - what happened to Amorim's stock?

Felt like one minute he was the coach half of Europe would be clamouring over this summer and the next there are people suggesting maybe we should stick with Ten Hag as there isn't a single available upgrade.

What gives?

My personal issue with Amorim's approach is his attacking play, relying heavily on the wide areas with wingers inverting inside it's a little too predictable given where the game of football is today. I think United need a more modern dynamic where we finally see overloads in the midfield. It's been a crucial nuance to Guardiola's success over the years and it's a shame that no manager in ten years has ever put United in a position to demonstrate that ability. Maybe the closest with some semblance was 6 years ago between Herrera, Pogba and Matic.

On the other hand, I do like his teams structure in defence they looked hard to break down when Arsenal played them Europa last season. There's also the notion that Amorim get's on well with the players, supposedly one of his managerial strengths and has enthusiasm.

I think picking Amorim will depend on what INEOS want from the team. If it's to be more possession orientated then De Zerbi could be a better gamble, know he's had a poor season by contrast to his former campaign but he's still in a similar standing to where Potter finished under Brighton previously.

this...100%. I can't believe he is so far out to be 50/1 surely pochettino makes sense. I've genuinely hoped we would get him ever since his spurs reign

What’s the point of hiring best in class CEO, sporting director and technical director if this is the best ‘shortlist’ they can draw up. For the money we’ve paid to hire these guys, I expect a little creativity and serious thinking on playing style and long term development of the squad - Tuchel and especially Southgate don’t fall into this category. Even Liverpool have done their homework and got Slot, might not work out but I can see what they’re trying to do.
Agreed. Tuchel and Southgate are really uninspiring and hopefully only speculations and smokescreens. There’s still a large chance INEOS/management will do a “Berrada” to no one’s knowledge with a more creative choice.

Now this, this is ban-worthy.

He likely is under consideration though I think most of the links is just noise from journalists going off the obvious links between Ashworth and Southgate . Maybe I'm wrong but I can't see guys like Berrada being on board with hiring a manager who's last club stint ended in relegation over 15 years ago.

I will also say even if he was the choice to replace ten Hag, are we really going to wait until potentially mid July to make a managerial appointment? Southgate's future with England is up in the air and he won't make a decision on it until after the Euros.

Pochettino is definitely sending out the signals loud and clear that he’s available for an approach. Whether that’s directed at us I’m not sure. Maybe he fancies Bayern and linking back up with Kane

We’ve overlooked Pochettino three times. He would be back to square one with us and without the squad resources that he has at Chelsea. So if there is any interest from his side then United must have a real pull on him.

There’s signs that he’s starting to turn things around at Chelsea having inherited a mess. A different level of pressure at United but also a support that generally backs the manager (in the stadium at least), whilst he’s had a bit of a sticky relationship with the Chelsea fans.

If Ten Hag goes I wouldn’t say no.

Christ, what a shambles. A perennial nearly-man is definitely not what this club needs. Come on.

Let's hope so. He'd be such an underwhelming appointment. And it's just not that he would stink up the place for the next 2-3 years, it'll kill the little bit of hope that the INEOS control of the football structure will change things for the better.

Seeing how things are moving, I am coming to believe that it's down to two possibilities:

- ETH will be given a new 2 year contract extension after the FA cup.

or

- ETH will be sacked and Potter would be appointed as our next manager. I cannot believe that he has said no to the Ajax job. He must be in the running here to say no to them.

What do people think about Potter? Seems like a decent fella who had Brighton playing very exciting football. Apart from his time at Chelsea he’s done well - I’d like to try him. Or maybe Thomas Frank who seems to be very tactically shrewd and a capable modern leader?

The Athletic made a good video on the manager market. It's rough out there but there are still options. A lot of clubs are struggling to find anyone good who won't self-destruct after 2 seasons.

I think Potter is overheated as he did better at Chelsea than Poch and Poch still has a reputation somehow. Some of the Chelsea players said he was too nice. I think Frank has done a great job considering his circumstances. There are no managers that excite me out there.

I keep seeing people say he has Brighton playing exciting football but his win percentage there was really bad (in the 30%++ range). Granted it’s Brighton but even De Zerbi has a better win percentage than potter.

De Zerbi took a much better team than what Potter had. And De Zerbi is likely a better manager.

I wouldn’t mind Potter here. But if we go the path of inexperience, I would prefer McKenna.

That’s actually a good point, you would think with Ajax being such a massive club and Potter reputation being in the mud after chelsea , he would jump there. I hope not , I think tactically he id a decent coach but the pressure of managing here will mentally destroy him. Same reason I think Ten Hag has struggled.

I do not make light of mental health issues mate but seriously are you mental, you are blaming INEOS and Sir Jim in particular for our poor performances since the partial take over, either you are tongue and cheek, full on WUM or have lost the plot big style!

Comparing Nice and Utd is a very poorly conceived idea, pretty much the only thing they have in common are that they are both football clubs, different leagues, fan base, business model/financial strategies, different infrastructure, it just does not add up

Very much tongue n cheek however even the All Blacks who were red hot favourites in the Rugby World Cup came up short, let me be clear here, I only see constructive and long over due correct decisions by INEOS however they just don’t have much luck with sport, it’s almost the INEOS curse

However the long protracted out Decision of Dan Ashworth is really not helping anyone, if this is the guy that going to be your main stay for the next decade or so just get the deal done, not wait til September, Xmas or next year!

Surely you agree with that ?

Comparing Nice with United well ones playing in Europe next year and one won’t be!

Why’s a lot of people saying the Bournemouth manager? What’s he actually won? He won’t get the respect from these players. And the people wanting him will be the same ones wanting him out because he ain’t up to the job. Let’s stop aiming for mid table managers.

With that in mind who are your top choices for manager? Just want to see if you stand on those same principles or does it adjust based on choice.

As I’m sure those wanting the Bournemouth manager have the same principles are yourself.

My top choice is an unrealistic target. It would be Nagelsmann, then inzaghi from Inter who we haven’t been linked with. I’d also have De Zerbi and Amorim over the Bournemouth manager.
