Bielsa, you mean? It's a massive mistake identifying managers who we think are capable of winning us a title. That's not where we are, that's not what we need. If we go down that road we're just repeating mistakes of the past. We need to be identifiyng someone with a history of building a team, even if it isn't to the level of title winners. Just someone who has a track record of leaving clubs he's been involved with in a better state than when he took over; bringing young players through would be a bonus. So many of these names suggest there's still complete denial that the last 10 years haven't happened and the right person and a couple of decent signings and we'll be challenging for the title again.
That's a recipe for disaster and is just setting up whoever takes over to fail as there's such a remote chance any of that will happen that we're almost guaranteeing whoever we get in will be a disappointment. We need stability, then we need progress. Constantly going for managers that indicate that each summer we're giving 'papering over the cracks' another shot, will be a massive mistake.
Honestly mate this needs to be fecking drummed into not just United fans but the whole of the board. I swear if I see another United fan say “we need a winner” I’m gonna gonna boil. It's a massive mistake identifying managers who we think are capable of winning us a title. Agreed, we need a change in our club and football culture.Honestly mate this needs to be fecking drummed into not just United fans but the whole of the board. I swear if I see another United fan say “we need a winner” I’m gonna gonna boil.
We’re at the bottom, we need to get the basics. Get in a proven tactician and top “coach”.
United fans are so weird. They’re happy to push for us signing young players who’ve won nothing of note but the minute you mention a head coach who’s won nothing they have a meltdown.
We need to stop chasing winners and big names or Gareth feckin Southgate. Gasperini, Valverde, Bielsa, Motta, De Zerbi. Get in a coach. Get in someone who has a proven record of completely drilling a team in his way. And then we go from there.
Tuchel is just not the right manager to take over from this position. Nagelsmann would've been the one for me. I cant believe we didnt make a move on that front.
We need someone who is going to slowly rebuild the squad with us and help develop all these younger players tactically.
The 2nd coming...Looks like The Moyessiah is available again after today

At least this time when he tells our defenders to play like Everton's defenders, they'll actually listen.Looks like The Moyessiah is available again after today
Top post, great points and perspective. We need to forget about the top of the table, forget top 4 and forget Cup runs just focus on building a team capable of playing the way we want, against anyone and anywhere. We need to identify a manager playing the football we (INEOS, on our behalf) want and ensure that we do a thorough background check because in this job you need a lot of grit, mental fortitude to stay on vision and clarity of thought in the midst of storms that will come regularly in addition to the tactical stuff. It's a massive mistake identifying managers who we think are capable of winning us a title. Yeah, he'd be a fascinating choice. Has probably done his reputation more good then other candidates like de Zerbi & O'Neil, this season I'd think.Good post, which is why I'd be open to someone like Iraola.

There are at least half a dozen good options out there if INEOS are serious:
Rúben Amorim - 39 years old
My personal favourite candiate. I believe that both Amorim and Alonso are the next two elite managers in the making. He's maintained a a win percentage of over 70% at every club/role so far in his career.
Taca de Liga winner x3 (one at Braga, two at Sporting)
Primeira Liga winner
And in with a chance of league and cup double this season. Sporting are currently 7 points clear of Benfica with 5 games left to play.
Roberto De Zebri - 44 years old
On course for back to back to top 10 Premier League finishes with Brighton. He guided Brighton to their 1st ever European campaign. He topped his Europa League group and has a good record vs the traditional big teams in England. 44.5% win rate. Potter's win rate was 38.7% in comparison.
Back to back 8th place finishes with Sassuolo in Serie A also.
No other manager in The PL has given more minutes to U21 players than De Zerbri this season. Verbruggen, Hinshelwood, Baleba, Buonanotte, Enciso, Fati, Adingra, Ferguson.
Julian Nagelsmann - 36 years old
Only 36 years old, but already hugely experienced. 8 years of senior management experience already. Earned a big move to Bayern after doing great jobs at both Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig. Harshly treated by the former decision makers at Bayern, he was sacked with a win percentage of over 70%. He's doing a good job at rebuilding Germany ahead of Euro 2024. Musiala and Wirtz featured heavily in their recent friendly wins over France and The Netherlands.
Thomas Tuchel - 50 years old
A mixed spell at Bayern, no doubt. Not helped by Bayern selling off their squad depth in order to fund the signing of Harry Kane and their failure to sign an athletic DM (Palhinha), he's somehow managed to get Bayern to the semi-finals of The Champions League. He'd become the 1st manager in CL history to take three different clubs to the final.
His time at Dortmund, PSG and Chelsea were very good stints. High win percentages and multiple trophies + finals at all three clubs. He was 1 win away from completing a historic quadruple with PSG.
Sebastian Hoeneß - 41 years old
His work at Stuttgart has probably gone under the radar due to Alonso and Leverkusen's success. But he currently has Stuttgart 3rd in The Bundesliga with a win percentage of 64.4% after just a year at the club. CL football is very likely. They have a 7 point gap over Leipzig with 5 games left to play.
Míchel - 48 years old
He has Girona currently 3rd in La Liga with an 8 point gap over Athletic Bilbao who are in 5th. 7 games to go. He's worked well with a squad combined of veterans such as Daley Blind and Cristhian Stuani + young players such as Yan Couto and Sávio. A little bit of a wobble recently, but they've generally played some very good attacking football and could make history this season.
Just want to highlight Hoeneß again, Stuttgart are by now the most improved (season to season) team in Bundesliga history, ahead of Tuchel's first Dortmund season (compared to Klopp's final season). Leverkusen might still become second in that metric, but in that regard they will stay behind Stuttgart.Nagelsmann is now a no go, but the other 5 would all be attainable if INEOS pursued them.
I'd even take Potter at this stage.
Iraola is also an option.
Whichever direction we take in the summer we are going to need a minimum of 2 CBs and a DM, starting quality so it would be sensible to address those speed issues, which are genuine, during that recruitment process. We could do with a manager that doesn't play a high line but still has his teams playing superior possession based football to suit our team lack of speed and to get the most out of our misspent signings and slowly evolve to a high pressing side over time

Tuchel is a fantastic option, what are you on about?Look at the options, Tuchel, Potter.. Terrible candidates.. All rejects who doesnt have the power to take on the rotting squad and the new manager would be eaten alive and sacked within a season and two. We need someone who is above the players in the hierarchy and has the power to get rid of those who can't deliver.
Give Mancini or someone like him a two year deal until we can find the right one. A Potter on a 4 year deal would be catastrophic
I choose to believe the tuchel one because it is a logical move while the Southgate one would make me puke
There aren't any fantastic options. Tuchel is massively overrated by some.Tuchel is a fantastic option, what are you on about?
