Who replaces Ten Hag?

Nope, he’s shite. Can get his team to raise themselves for one off matches but can’t do it consistently in the league. How this Bayern team hasn’t walked the bundesliga is a joke

Slighlty dismissive of Bayer Neverlusen

Whilst I’d love to believe you, I hope you’re right. He’s absolutely got the best potential and PL experience in all names outside of the usual suspects. He’d be brilliant under a good structure.

Apparently they've quite a short shortlist and he's on it.
They see him as one of the best young managers in Europe or the World.

If the season started on Nov 1st, Bournemouth would be 5th.

It makes sense to me.
Obviously it's a risk but so is any appointment.
The goal is to find the next Klopp/Pep

Wow then the goal is totally wrong because there are no next Pep or Klopp.. all of their managerial copies basically failed to replicate any of their success over the years or to be on their level..

It's quite worrying that bookies' top 3 is still Tuchel, Southgate (OMFG) and Potter.

Personally, I would go for the up and coming managers like Thiago Motta, Alonso and McKenna. But out of these 3 only Alonso won something big but he is not leaving this year.

I meant it figuratively not literally.
Besides, lots of Pep's prodigies are doing well like Arteta, Alonso etc.

Motta is supposedly going to Juve

Yes, I have heard that. Why I went for Tuchel as a back up option. Mckenna is a long term option. If he has another good season. Would eventually like to see him if Motta stays at Juve. I think Motta long term waiting for the Barca job and Alonso the Real job.

I agree that he should be winning the league as its Bayern but aren't they pretty much on par with points tallies for the last few seasons and its the freak (Leicester like) form of Leverkusen this year thats the difference? I mean in general I think Bayern haven't been as good in recent seasons is my impression of it.

I've been impressed with Iraola.

Turned Christie into a decent #8, surviving with no real strength in midfield (Cook-Christie-Kluivert is very lightweight), replace Adam Smith at RB with someone younger and better defensively and you're probably down from 60 goals conceded to a more normal 55 or so.

Easy to see this sort of team looking alright next year as we rebuild.

------------Hojlund-----------
Winger--Bruno----Garnacho
---Mainoo/Mount--CM----------
Shaw-Licha--CB----Dalot
-------------Onana--------------

Almost surely would concede too many goals, but I think he might be able to turn Bruno into an average player defensively instead of a problem, and probably be good for getting actual service for Hojlund.

Potential problems:
-Long term, he's not a possession zealot so might make more sense on say a 2-3 year deal and focus on getting the players in shape and pressing, bit like Tuchel but instead of becoming good defensively, be good going forward via the high press.

-Bournemouth concede a lot, though Rayo are going to likely concede about the same amount this season. I think it's fair to say Iraola's record indicates he doesn't improve teams defensively much but gets them scoring more goals, so I think expectations would be something like 65-70 goals scored but still like 50 conceded, so basically like where Villa and Spurs have been this year, which is both an improvement but also not hugely exciting, and we'd be counting on him to improve defensively as a manager, which his style may not allow for, though he is young (41).

ETH will leave for Bayern "by mutual consent".

Iraola will be given 3 year contract.

This will happen in late May after FA cup final.

If we really want to get best in class, can we move heaven and earth to get Alonso? It will be extremely difficult but he will be the next best manager comparable to Pep and Klopp.

We have been looking for SAF replacement for over a decade. I think Alonso is the one.

rumours going round that the plan is to keep ETH for a year. At which time a certain German manager that rhymes with Plopp will have had a year as a timeout away from football and nay be swayed
Now how do I put this? NO A BIG FAT NO. Feck I’d rather leave this mortal coil than see that.

If we are going to keep ETH for another, which won’t be a bad thing until the boardroom is settled in then by then McKenna just might have had a half decent season with Ipswich and will be ripe for picking.

Absolutely, categorically, 100 million % Klopp will never ever eh-hever come to United in 1 year or one hundred years. Not gonna happen.

I do think that all of them had better tactical ideas and generally better working system. Terzic is very single-minded in his view of football and is lucky whenever Dortmund plays against opposition where his ideas fit well (which means when Dortmund is the underdog). Which is the case most of the time in the CL, but whenever they have to be the dominant team (which is quite often the case in the league) they are just a very poor side and very deservedly sit in 5th place in the table.
A fair assessment would also be to point out that they have the 4th most talented squad in the league. One can argue about their squad vs. all the young talent that has Stuttgart. So they are basically where they belong in the league. It would also be fair to point out that while you might be correct about his overall approach, that the reason it yields results is that it protect the threed headed tortoise that is Can, Hummels and Schlotterbeck. Can is also a slow decision maker on the ball, which can lead to more bad turnovers, when you are pushed up the field. Dortmund simply have no recovery speed. Doesn´t really matter who you play. Even weaker teams have fast players that will bury chances in open spaces.

I am genuinely interested in your answers here… if you could have any current manager in the world as our manager no matter how unrealistic, who would it be?

Feel like it might be a unanimous answer but I’m interested to see if I’m wrong..

Alonso for me. Literally breaking European records in a one horse league.

Pep, obviously

Precisely. Look at Sancho last night. It’s Ten Hag’s job to get the best out of these assets. After watching Sancho against legitimate competition in a Champions league semifinal, don’t you have at least a tiny bit of a question mark as to whether Ten Hag handled that situation fairly? He was the one who fired the first shot in public causing the row.

And here we are, in 6th, with a +1 GD, with two former squad members in Sancho and Sabitzer, playing for a “Frankenstein” squad of Dortmund, winning the first leg of a semifinal. How is it that Edin Tersic can unlock these players and have them play so well? Why does Tersic play a high line with Mats Hummels, possibly the slowest human alive, making Maguire look like Usain Bolt? That Dortmund team is full of retreads like Brandt, Fullkrug, Sabitzer, Can, etc, yet they play like a team. Ten hag couldn’t figure out how to use Sancho in 18 months, it took Terzic 2 months.

How anyone can look at Varane, who has won everything there is to win, is athletically so much more gifted than Hummels, and say he is useless… I mean, that’s a joke.

After watching that performance, I’d take Terzic in a heartbeat over Ten Hag. An absolute scotch tape side going toe-to-toe with a side full of stars at PSG. Almost won the Bundesliga last year too. feck me. And people want to give Ten Hag another year. :wenger:
Was laughing so hard. Slowest human alive caught me off guard. Your fun

I'd be careful what you wish for - Dortmund have been a pretty torrid watch in the Bundesliga this year and have misfired badly, they've looked a bit better recently after shipping a ton of goals in the first half of the season but thy're still more than 20 points off Leverkusen. They're european form is weirdly like a different team to their league form and it doesn't look like they'll be playing champions league football next year.
As Germany have 5 spots in champions league next year they are already in it

Pep without question and seconded by Alonso.

Pep, Kloop

So with Lopetegui signing up for WH, I guess that means EtH to Bayern and Moysie comes home? Glazers going out full circle…
kicker (highly reputable German football news) reports today that Bayern are interested in Guardiola and speculate he might be interested as well due to still being connected to the city (still owns a flat, is somewhat regularly visiting there) and having unfinished business there (did fail to win the CL). Also flagged that as being quite difficult to achieve, so doubtful if that's more than a thought experiment on Bayern's behalf.

Nonetheless IF that move happens they open up the next interesting round of the managerial carousel.

It's a massive mistake identifying managers who we think are capable of winning us a title. That's not where we are, that's not what we need. If we go down that road we're just repeating mistakes of the past. We need to be identifiyng someone with a history of building a team, even if it isn't to the level of title winners. Just someone who has a track record of leaving clubs he's been involved with in a better state than when he took over; bringing young players through would be a bonus. So many of these names suggest there's still complete denial that the last 10 years haven't happened and the right person and a couple of decent signings and we'll be challenging for the title again.

That's a recipe for disaster and is just setting up whoever takes over to fail as there's such a remote chance any of that will happen that we're almost guaranteeing whoever we get in will be a disappointment. We need stability, then we need progress. Constantly going for managers that indicate that each summer we're giving 'papering over the cracks' another shot, will be a massive mistake.

Alonso is the hot property in the market for sure, but I wonder what makes Utd an attractive option for him when he can basically choose the any big jobs available in the market.

Oh he would have no interest, nor would I would expect him to. The question said no matter how unrealistic :D .

Someone who works in football in the NW told me that United are interested in Iraola.

They view as one of the best young managers in Europe.
You've said that a few times, I hope it's true.
Would be my choice above Tuchel, Southgate, De Zerbi & Potter.
