Who replaces Ten Hag?

These Southgate links are pissing me off and they just seem to be intensifying. I refuse to believe the new people in power are this out of touch
I agree, generally Radcliffe has been making the right noises and some excellent appointments made or lined up. But Southgate would be awful, a passive and cautious manager with a bang average managerial career at Boro that ended with relegation and then a sacking. Absolutely nothing he has done to suggest he is the right fit for United. I am really not an ETH fan but would far keener on him staying if that is the option. Lets hope its not true.

I mean I am firmly in the Ericxit camp, I just cannot see past his shite tactics, and mistakes he has made this season.... pretty much nothing will change my view on this.... however given Southgate as the alternative I would be firmly back in the remain camp

Not Southgate! Please, no. Not that dreary, hypercautious, charmless dork. He makes even our Erik look charismatic in comparison. Surely, United deserve better!?

Southgate is a peperoni pizza. Bang average and a safe choice for all kind of situations in a way that it won't surprise anybody both negatively and positively. I have no doubt he will please his overlords if he comes because he seems to be good at it but the fans will go back to a mix of LvG and Jose days - sleeping during matches and getting sick of playing like an underdog.

And considering right now we have quite a lot of attacking talents, let's not do that. He will be the death of young attacking talents. McTominay will be his favorite midfielder and he will play with 3 CBs + 2 FBs. I can just see it now. Yeah we won't get battered but won't win anything either.

Get a decent recruitment team and stick with Ten Hag.

Southgate or Potter would be disastrous appointments and are a step down from ETH. The merry go round will continue if we hire them.

Not me i detest Southgate but would still take him over Ten Hag.

I would pay a monthly membership subscription on here if he gets the job. The melt down will be epic. Inject it my veins. Already feeling a tingling sensation down there at the thought. Love it

I wouldn't be surprised if it's Southgate's camp knowing he's leaving England after the Euros and deliberately being linked with top clubs so he can get a better job. It would literally be suicidal for us to take him on. He has zero experience of managing at the top level and is tactically inept.

feck me if Southgate is the choice for Ineos then bring back the Glazer’s, all is forgiven.

Seriously though I just can’t see it, they’re putting all the right people in the right positions and the last thing we need is a dithering yes man at the helm.

I don't see Southgate as a Man Utd manager at all, but I could see him being excellent in an "upstairs" role. He's clearly a good people manager, diplomatic, etc. Some of the stick he gets as England manager is partly because he comes off as much more of a football executive than a coach.

Is it possible Ratcliffe wants him in the setup, but not as coach, and the media speculation is confused?

Tempting to be on guard because for me Southgate would be a tragic appointment. The worst one post-Fergie easily. Including Rangnick.

But I genuinely don't see it at all. I really trust INEOS will go after the best they can. And the links are just born from things like his relationship with Brailsford and Ashworth. And Ratcliffe supposedly favoring British appointments. None of which would make anyone think Southgate was good enough to be the manager.

If Southgate is the best name Ratcliffe can come up with we are in big trouble and clearly not in the right hands. Hopefully he leaves the hiring of managers to Berrada and Ashworth who surely wouldn't do something so stupid.

If Southgate is ever a serious consideration Ineos will be resigned to the scrapheap of incompetence the Glazers currently occupy. And we'll end up having to hope for the Glazers to sell to a third party and force Ineos out with them.

And if it's Ashworth driving it then he subscribes to the same category of incompetent nepotism as the Glazers/Woodward/Arnold and their stooge hierarchies

The Southgate rumours have to be nonsense. If not, we are so fecked. Time for a poll lads.

Just hope this Southgate / Potter stuff is nonsense. Everything else coming from SJR and Ineos has been very positive but if this is their idea of the right manager for Manchester United then we’re fecked. Reeks of the David Moyes pick.
Exactly, "style over substance"

I'd take Moyes, hell, I'd even take LVG back over Southgate. I guess the only former manager I wouldn't take again over him is Rangnick, obviously.

Imagine how bad it would be, and I can't imagine he'd have the control over the press that he's enjoyed whilst with England either.

Imagine hiring a manager that the entire fanbase will want sacked even before the first defeat. Good luck with that one.

When the wheels come off what body of work would Southgate have to convince people to stick with him? Failing multiple times with the strongest squad in international football? Relegating Middlesbrough from relative mid table security in less than 3 years?

At least Ten Hag has won trophies and played attractive football at lower levels.

It's just a rumour. Maybe INEOS are testing the waters. Or Southgate's team is trying to link him with a prestigious job before a possible return to club football after the Euros. On the other hand, as long as ETH doesn't get a new contract, the press will not stop speculating about the next appointment. The fact that he hasn't got it will always serve as an indication that he's not the new regime's favourite. Interesting that Southgate is leading in the bookies' lists, followed by Potter, if that means anything. It does seem underwhelming and, if it becomes a reality, it will be interesting to see how they will try to sell it.

Even just comparing hiring Southgate with hiring Potter makes the idea look like utter lunacy.

Potter had a terrible 9 months but he did good work in the Premier League and had teams playing nice football. A cv Southgate has never had and will never have.

Southgate is a joke. I'd rather give ETH a 10-year unbreakable contract.

Potter is only acceptable if ETH is at his worst, otherwise it's also a pointless appointment. His next step is probably a team like Newcastle/West Ham.

Overall, not a fan of hiring managers that would never ever have a shot at managing City/Liverpool/Barca/Bayern/Real Madrid.

Berrada must know who City have lined up to replace Pep whenever he leaves. And I think we can safely say it wont be Potter or Southgate.

So he should be telling Brailsford/Ashworth/whoever to fecking sling it with their brexit fc stooge options.

Howe is a much better manager than either and even he would be a terrible appointment.

If we end up with Southgate then Ratcliffe is going back to being scolded as Brexit Jim. fecks sake.

Put Southgate in a role with a proper structure and he could thrive.

I'd argue the rumours are definitely being leaked from Southgate's side of things.

He's more likely gonna end up at somewhere like West Ham post Moyes than United post Ten Hag.

This would make a lot of sense given the history with Ashworth, just not sure what role it would be.

This Southgate talk is a beat-up. There's a fair chance he'll leave the England gig after the Euro's and thus any club that wanted him didn't need to pay compensation, which is where the story has some legs to it. Even then though, if United wanted Hansi Flick or Julien Nagglesmann, compensation wouldn't be an issue and those two are better choices than Southgate. Heck if you wanted Xavi, compensation isn't an issue either.

Southgate rumours are just nonsense and can’t believe how much airtime it’s got….

His form as a club manager is non descript and is certainly not going to excite the fan base.

I think they will give ETH another season and then review - clear out some deadwood and identify transfer talent without getting our pants pulled down would be for starters.

Regarding the Southgate rumours, is there even any good examples of managers that have transitioned from national team to club management after that long. Southgate has been with the England setup for more than a decade, and hasn't managed a club since he was fired by Middlesbrough in 2009. It seems like a terrible foundation for success as a manager for a big club.

God I hope there is nothing to this story.

No. Maybe Hiddink but he never had long term club jobs.

Southgate has been an international manager for 3x longer than LVG had been before he came here. And I think he massively struggled with the transition from monthly to daily coaching and management.

International management is usually where managers go to retire. Southgate is still young however, and used international football to reinvent himself.

This.
I cant see us changing manager this season for several reasons.

They need to set a club strategy that managers can fit into, not the other way around, for starters.
A strategy for the next 20 years+.

We need to clear out and buy new players to fit that strategy long term.
Our youth team and reserves should reflect said strategy.
And we need to set up a transfer policy with the right people, that makes us buy the right players for the right reasons.

If INEO's can manage that, without using heaps on money on the wrong players and manager, we can start challenging again.

I would keep ETH next season, and if he is able to show something different thats a good thing, but i personally dont think he will.
We play horrible football atm, even if results say otherwise.

Detest somebody, but would prefer them to Ten Hag. What an absolute ridiculous comment.
