Simple. Who do you think is the better 'Striker' right now?

Age, versatility, future worth etc not important. Who's the better striker among the 2 right now?

RvP. To be fair, on his day RvP is one of the best finishers out there. His off the shoulder play, and in or around the box finishing is just that bit sharper than Rooneys, consistently too.

Right now, probably van persie because of consistency, although there's not that much in it. Rooney is a better finisher but Rvp has a better touch, but then you have rooneys work rate which is a huge bonus. If it becomes a straight choice this summer on who to keep, I'd keep Rooney because of everything he's done for us for the last 10 years, and how he's younger and probably the next captain if he stays. A chance to become a united legend too. Van persies been great for us too, but with his injuries you can't be sure long term.

In a weird way.. If you look at their physiques. RVPs hold up game makes him better than Rooney.

van Persie is the better striker of the two right now. We haven't seen Rooney consistently deployed as the out and out striker in a few years now, he was absolutely lethal when he played there too to be fair.

It's possible that I'm just only focusing on when Rooney was indeed our main focus striker, like in the 09-10 season. He was  back then.

With the likes of Januzaj, Mata and Kagawa as their creative platform, I think Rooney is the better option even though he's probably the inferior player overall in and around the box. We lack pace up front and Rooney would stretch the play and create space for the AM's behind him in a way that RVP couldn't.

If we had options with a bit of pace in behind, my answer would be different.

Yep, he was. But RVPs better at the lone striker role even compared to Rooney back then imo. Superior when it comes to first tough, holding the ball up and better at dribbling and in tight spaces.

For me, RvP is a better striker, Rooney is a better forward, that's always been the case. I know the two words are like yin and yang to some but that's what I think of each as.

As a footballer Rooney can be better at more things, but van Persie on form trumps him on everything he is good at and incidentially they're the primary duties as a striker. His shooting technique, his hold up play, his skill, his first touch, his dribbling and he's even a better knobhead when they want to be knobheads (because all strikers are knobheads)

Rooney is the better finisher, is better in the air, is more mobile.

Van Persie is much more consistent, has better movement, has better hold-up play, has better all-round technique, class and dribbling ability and generally adds that bit more to the team's football.

For me, anyway.

Better striker, player, whatever you want to call it, Van Persie is superior and has been for around 3-4 years.

Does a striker being able to perform a mediocre job in midfield make him the "better player?"

I suspect Rooney's 'versatility' is the main reason behind the confident assertions that he is in fact the better player overall. That doesn't wash with me.

RVP is the better striker. Rooney is the more complete player.

RVP is the better striker, not to much doubt about that. Though over all I'd say Rooney is the better player, as he has more to his game.

Apparently so. I'm not so sure what it is Rooney is currently better at.

I admit, I've been potentially blinded by Rooney being the better player, in my opinion that is.

Still, from the two, if I had to choose for one to stay, I'd pick Wayne. Not sure whether I'm taking age into account or anything, but yeah, Rooney.

Like what? Other than pinging out a glorified ball to Antonio Valencia.

What makes Rooney the better player for those that are saying so? Its a view I had subscribed to for a long time but am not so sure anymore. Genuine question.

It's gonna come down to personal preference, but van Persie is by far our best player, in my opinion.

Rooney is the better finisher? What have you guys been watching? RvP just misses more chances because he puts himself in more/better positions to score. If they both had equal amount of chances to finish, RvP would have a better record.

van Persie is the better striker and the better player. Rooney had a sensational season as a lone striker but that was when the Valencia train ran on time and our team had an excellent shape. Last season, Robin often single handedly won us games.

tracking back and work rate for one. You never see RVP chasing down a break away and winning the ball back, but you do see that from Rooney. When it comes to putting the ball in the net however, RVP every time

Passing in general, I'd put Rooney ahead of RVP.

I know this sound weird, but on a counter attack I'd much prefer if we had Rooney in part of it than RVP.

I admire that but shouldnt be the criteria when it comes to judging who the better striker is.

Yep, if I had to choose between RVP and Rooney in a team it would be Rooney everyday, he offers so much more all around.

So would I. Much faster.

That. But I also think his judgement is better than RVP. Now, I could very well be wrong at that - but in that split second decision, if shooting was the only option available then RVP would be best in that situation. In a scenario where a pass or shot is on, then I'd more than likely trust Rooney.

Rooney's always been more of a team player, van Persie has that selfish ruthlessness.

Rooney's more likely to pass than RVP in a 50-50, I'd agree with that. Take the Cardiff game for example with that giggsy pass, no way does RVP look for Welbeck there. Is it really a great attribute though? I prefer the more ruthless ones tbh.
