Who could be the new first goalkeeper if de Gea leaves (hopefully he stays)?

Cech was probably the best keeper in the PL at his prime and amongst the top 3-5 in the world.

Agree, he was absolutely world class and top 5 in the world, until the head injury. Still a really good keeper but never seemed quite the same to me since

I would love someone to properly analyse Courtois because to me he is so overated. He has one of the best defences infront of him yet time and time again he concedes. He often comes out too late or not quickly enough and gets caught too far from line and too far out and they score. He rarely saves corner shots that are hit clean and generally doesn't actually stop that much. He is good at coming out and getting crosses I'll give him that but as a keeper I see a man thats almost too tall. He takes so long to get down he often dives over it and reacts slowly.

If I recall Chelsea last season conceded the fewest shots allowed by far, 6 a game, closest was Liverpool with 8.8 a game. At one point of the season just 7 IN TOTAL had been on target and TC has saved just 2! So basically, if you have a shot and it is on target, it is more likely to go in than have TC save it despite the fact that he has less to do than any other keeper in the league.

I think he has a long way to go to become the world class goalkeeper. That being said I still think keeping him over cech was by far the right decision as he has 10-15 years left in the game and Cech is becoming worse and worse. But I really don't see him as unsellable. I don't think he has been close to Van Der Sa, De Gea, Cech, these elite prem keepers.

He doesn't have much to do and still lets in goals. Quite often he lets in goals where it looks like he is in a "nothing he could do position" but the best keepers get in the right spots and make it look easy. Weirdly he never EVER gets called out for the media about letting in goals. Something De Gea was and then corrected. See gary nevilles skysports piece on how De Gea evolved.

https://my.mixtape.moe/hjimyw.mp4 - Example
https://www.clippituser.tv/c/bwrngx - Another example in the same game, maybe you could say its unstoppable, its in the corner but better keepers predict it.
- FA cup goal, again maybe you could say its unstoppable, its in the corner but better keepers predict it.
- There are a lot of examples of good goals vs him. But if he was in our nets I'd be saying he has to do better.
Rifled into the corner but again, I don't think its "unstoppable"
- Again, defenders fecked him over but I don't think he comes out well at all.
https://u.nya.is/tjpnvx.mp4 - Basically any time a shot is like this, it's in. You can't blame him for not saving it but it would be nice to see him save the odd one. He isn't a top keeper for me.
- Like is that shot unstoppable? to me he should be stopping it
- Can't blame him? but he doesn't exactly control the 1v1.
https://track5.mixtape.moe/hsoopm.mp4 - Just before Ali heads it Courtois bounces, he then has to land and jump again, by that time its in the net. Again, I don't think its "unstoppable".

Just some random goals I picked. Look, I'm not saying he is shit, clearly he is a good keeper, but I don't think he is a level above everyone like people say.

Give Romero a chance at that no.1 spot, and if Jose's assessment of Pereira is accurate, he would be the one to replace Romero when he is ready.

I would prefer him to go the Courtois route though, if possible. Benfica seems to be the best place for it, but they already a supposed potential GK playing already. Porto, or Sporting would be good too. Playing a lot of minutes without too much pressure, but at the same time, being able to experience UCL or even EL which would be beneficial to his development.
