Which striker in the summer?

It's going to be Danny Ings and you guys know it.

Oh god no. That would be an absolute disaster in my eyes. I do want somebody young, someone who is under 25 but someone with an awful lot more skill than Ings. Can you imagine lining up for a big Champions League game with Ings as our sole forward. Grr, sends shivers down my spine. I don't want Cavani either who seems to be linked daily. Someone mentioned on the first page about signing Dybala, I think he would be a good shout.

I think we need a bit more of a (non-Felliani) physical presence up front as an option when Rooney or RvP are struggling against a deep defence. Benteke seems a better option than Ings for a 3rd choice striker.

I'd sell three of our strikers and buy in fresh talent.

Chicharito, Henriquez, Falcao and maybe even van Persie should leave in the summer. If the right offer comes for RvP, then sell him.
As we only play with one striker - and Rooney is the preferred man there - we only need a couple of back-up options. Wilson will hopefully have learned a lot from this season, and is ready for more action next season.
I would like to see Lewandowski join United, as he has a lot of superb qualities. Rooney, Lewandowski and Wilson will be good enough to fight for the title.

Dybala seems best shout tbh though not sure fully he can lead the line in the PL right now.

Can see us keeping RVP, Rooney and Wilson and adding one more not that high profile striker like maybe Ings though.

Might be worth keeping Henriquez around too.

We need to sell Rooney and by a better striker.. He is not that good in that role anymore

I think Rvp will stay as I doubt somebody would offer good enough wages and transfer fee to tempt us / him
Rooney will of course stay though where lvg plays him is anybody guess
I think Hernandez will leave and I expect wilson to go on loan as he will only improve with games... Rumours are adnan will also be loaned out and with falcao surely off that leaves a couple of spaces in the squad for strikers
I suspect we will get one experienced player and one young player
For the younger one perhaps henriquez if lvg rates him, perhaps Ings if he is available for such a small fee or Patrick Roberts... Basically somebody who has potential but would be happy with a handful of games
On top of that an established striker who can lead the line when Rvp is injured or when Rooney is moved into midfield / full back / keeper / whatever other experiment lvg wants to try... There is not a lot of proven strikers likely to be available but if Lewendowski is then he is an obvious candidate... Cavani and higuain spring to mind as options

It's such a shame we seem to have zero interest in Dybala at this point, I guess he's not chunky enough. Watching him tonight for Palermo wasn't exactly a defining game for him but his pace, skill and technique are what we are missing in our attack, he looks so comfortable playing from wide as well so he could play where we have Mata now quite easily IMO and despite his size he is like Aguero and Sanchez in that he's hard to knock off the ball.

I agree about this. Thats the great thing about him, he could play all 3 forward positions in a 4-3-3. Him playing as a right winger with Rooney as a striker or leading hte line himself, he really would fit in perfectly formation wise. With his running and dribbling style, he really reminds me of Isco and Aguero at times, the same flair and movements. I really would like to see him here, i know it is said a lot of times, but he really is exactly the type of player we need. I havent seen much of Lacazette or Vietto, but Dybala excites me.

How many of those games were in midfield?

He is no way a midfielder, and he isn't world class up front anymore, he will become an issue soon if we do get a top striker as LvG will always want to play him, the question is where.

Get Higuain and Ings in over the summer. Higuain would be an upgrade on anything we currently have and he would not demand insane wages......Ings can be used for cup games etc........Higuain will defo score 20 goals for us but if he turns out to be pants then maybe a year on from now then perhaps Januzaj will be coming back from a loan move somewhere and will have developed into a decent center forward as that is where Van Gaal apparently wants him to eventually play

A lot depends on whether Hernandez comes back.

What I would like in our strike options is to have both pace and power. Currently we have neither.

Higuain would be too expensive, Napoli would take us to the cleaners. I am thinking about 40-50m is what they would ask for.

I saw a bit of the rerun of Sunday Supplement and on it one of the journos said that the feeling at United is we need a world class striker and neither RvP or Rooney are seen as the guy for the role.

We need a pacey striker up top that can beat a man. All our strikers are just so static.

None. Keep RVP, Rooney and Wilson. Money can be spend elsewhere like for example in midfielders. In that way we would stop playing Rooney there

So basically sell all of our experienced strikers ?

Yes the only one worth keeping for experience is Rooney but he isn't the type of personality who would be happy on the bench.. so I'd sell him too.

In an ideal world he'd be a backup striker for us

I'm sure this wouldn't disrupt our squad at all.

RVP fair enough but I'd question the comment on Rooney. While I may think it could be true, why give him such a huge contract and make him captain if we plan on getting a world class striker as the main man up front? Shift Rooney into midfield permanently? Change formation? It doesn't seem that well planned out if we're going to spend massive on a striker in the summer.

Havn't seen much of these young strikers often talked about like Dybala,Lacazette or Vietto.Which if any would you say resembles a younger RVP i.e.has great movement around the box and is a killer finisher? That's what I think we need.

Martial or Lacazette are the only ones I hope for, since Dybala wants to either stay in Italy or go to Spain. Other than that Memphis or Bale could provide the goalscoring threat we need.

Van Gaal has mentioned bringing more balance to the team.
He wants to play 4-3-3 where you have 1 center forward and 2 wide forwards.
We have 4 center forwards but no wide forwards really.
Thats why the Depay rumours make sense.

Well Moyes was the one that gave him that contract, many things that happened in that period look unwise now. Basically I'd persevere with Rooney as a #9 next season and see how it goes, no more playing in midfield.

Benteke checks the boxes especially if LVG is going 4-3-3. I think he's good enough to lead the line at United. As mentioned earlier he's Costa without the scumbag aspects. Strong in the air, quite good in tight spaces, has a delicate touch for a man of his size, scores goals from distance, intimidates his opponents, and often physically overwhelms his opponents. Cons: Positional awareness goes awry from time to time, misses a few too many sitters, when he's off form he's really off form, past injuries could be a concern.

Hard to say. And he might focus on Rooney as the lone striker and more goals from the 2 wide players in the front 3. Hello Bale and Memphis?

When did he last on of form? Earlier this season, Aston Villa were really shit with Lambert playing sh*t football and they couldn't create any chances.

He was off in 2013/2014 but I think that he never really was able to put together a long list of games together due to injuries in 2013/2014. He's like a lot of the Belgians in that they need to play lots of matches in a row otherwise they lose consistency. De Bruyne is the "worst" when it comes to this he needs to play every game otherwise his game devolves.

I think we haven't seen Benteke's ceiling because he hasn't had a chance to play with good/great service.

I also think that he would solve Arsenal's striker problem and would make Pool dangerous like 13/14 albeit not as much as Suarez clearly but enough to carry them in several games. So in this scenario getting him would prevent Arsenal and Pool from getting much stronger while ultimately giving United a nasty physical tough striker who possess high level of technical skill.

Stick with Rooney for one striker, he's not that bad, then go in HARD for Harry Kane in 2016, like Rooney for Everton, it'll be worth it.

Thats partially true. He has a preference to stay in Italy, because he plays there and became the player he now is. He likes Barca, because of the Argentine players they had/have and Messi. But Barca arent interested in him. He also likes City, because of Aguero. But they arent interested in him either. He wants CL football.

He also said he would like to play in England one day. So with Rojo and Di Maria here, he could easily play for us if that is what matters. We could easily outbid the Italian clubs, leaving us with Arsenal, Chelsea or PSG (if these clubs are really interested). I mean if you asked Aguero, he would also have said Barca is his dream or whatever. He ended up at City and still plays there after all these years. So i wouldnt worry about that.

That said, he could go to Juve for 2-3 years, then we could still buy him. He will be more expensive, but better if he continues his progress.

Martial is a winger, but still an option we should consider. Looks a top talent. Will be far cheaper than the other options too, I'd probably want to sign hi in addition to any other winger.

He really is a striker, who can play wide. He's been used more and more recently as a striker and that's where his best position is.
