Which striker in the summer?

Wait a year. Let Rooney play up front and give RvP the chance to recover. If non of this really pays off get Lacazette or Kane the next summer if they can keep up their pace from this season. Vietto might also be one to watch out for.

I agree with this, we're better of improving the defence and midfield. I assume that we're going to play with just one striker at the time, so Rooney/RvP/Wilson should suffice.

I'd like to see us go with one up top (Rooney), ship out RvP and Falcao and replace them with a younger/quicker striker. We really need to add some pace in to this side, Wilson isn't quite good enough yet but he still improves the side when he plays simply because of his pace. I think Rooney, Wilson, and another (Dybala, etc) will be enough for us to get through next season.

I personally don't care. Want Rooney up front with RvP/Wilson (think he's earned some starts) by his side. And whoever else we get should just be backup for Rooney.

Wouldn't mind seeing Harry Kane come our way though, but that's because I'm a sucker for young, promising English players.

Although Ings has proved himself in a much better league than Lacazette has

Lacazette is a far better player. Ings record isn't much better than the likes of Darren Bent a few years ago (it might be worse, I haven't checked).

I actually think a great signing would be Aritz Aduriz as a backup striker for Wayne. The guy fits our play style, and should be great value for his price.

Surprised nobody mentions him.

He's 34 years old. Better off giving Van Persie a new 10 year deal.

3rd thread of this sort in the last month or so. Simply put, there arent any top strikers available. We'd need to pick one of the talents and hope they come good in the PL.

People are talking too literally when thinking of strikers, look at the current Liverpool front 3, that is what we should be looking at if we are going to play 4-3-3. Rooney flanked by two fast, versatile young forwards.

Harry Kane could be available, for the right money.
He will be playing at OT in a few days, so we will get to see how he handles a big stadium and a big pitch.
This'll be the perfect stage to see how he handles playing at OT.

I'm not really "into" foreign strikers. I prefer to buy young British players, so I cant see past Harry Kane. This guy is strong, knows the EPL and knows how to score loads of goals in the EPL.
He is also a leader and not afraid to play against big teams (see what he did against Chelsea). And if he comes in the Summer, he should make instant impact, ie. no waiting for him to adapt to the league or allowing him time to adjust or learn the language or any other silly excuses. I want to avoid buying another lemon, who has no EPL experience.

There is no point in hoping for Kane in the summer ... there's no chance of him leaving whatsoever. He's been at Spurs since the age of 11 and has just signed a new contract running until summer 2020. He's Spurs through and through and won't wish to leave ... and Levy wouldn't sell in any case, especially not to a league rival.

You should focus instead on realistic striker targets, though hopefully not Danny Ings because I'd like to see him at Spurs this summer.

The only one talking sense. Dybala and this other cheap Argie fit the bill.

Memphis Depay will be signed I think. He'll play on the left side of a fluent front three I hope.

Depay - Rooney - Bale

Bale is playing no better than Di Maria at the moment...

Lacazette for me. He seems to have it all. Pace and power, he's good on the ball, powerful and seems to be able to create as well as score. He'd be excellent and give our attack a dimension thats been sorely lacking for a while.

There is Jackson Martínez. He's a top striker, and ready to pounce. Certainly not a player for the future, as he's at his peak right now and 28. He's certainly top-10 right now. His numbers are as good as Falcao were, but playing for a weaker Porto. I don't know who'll sign him come Summer, but I'd bet wherever he goes he'll cause an impact like Falcao did at Atletico and shine for 2 or 3 seasons until age starts taking its toll.

I'd also bet he won't be that expensive for a player of his calibre. Him staying with us this season probably came with a compromise of us making it easier for him to leave. We've done this before with other players.

Really don't think this is our priority. Especially if we're giving Wilson a chance.

Won't get anywhere until the defence is properly fixed.

He'd cost a bomb and it'd be fecking nuisance dealing with Levy for him.

Ah yes, Martinez. Not seen much of him which is why I didnt include him but yeah, heard good things.

Martinez is a pure #9, he'd be competing with Rooney which is pointless and RvP will still be loitering as cover as he's LvG's boy. I think Memphis seems almost a cert, so we should look for a player to play on the right of the front 3.

Memphis---Rooney---Vietto

Memphis---Rooney---Dybala

Memphis---Rooney---Fekir

It's looking increasingly clear that Van Gaal will want to buy a striker in the summer - he has talked of us lacking a 20 goal a season striker. Besides that, it's pretty clear that our three senior strikers (if you include Rooney who Van Gaal doesn't like there) are in decline and Wilson is not yet ready.

So, who should we be aiming for?

Should we be aiming to break the bank for a top striker at the peak of their powers in the world like Suarez, Costa, Neymar or Aguero?

Or maybe another player like RVP / Falcao who is in the latter stages of their career but can do a job for a few years like Ibrahimovic

Or a younger striker that we can develop like Dybala, Kane, Berahino, Lacazette, Lukaku, Morata, etc?
Give me someone with Welbeck's abilities who can score 15 goals a season.

I'm not desperate for a striker if we intended to play Mata as a regular #10 because he has goals in him and so Di Maria's lack of goals wouldn't be such an issue.
Rooney
Depay - Mata - Di Maria
I suppose I would prefer a striker/forward who could play wide or through the centre to add depth/options.

None. Rooney up front let henriquez and wilson battle it out for second choice

I'd still like a big physical striker like Diego Costa or Drogba but I just can't think of any. I don't watch much foreign football so maybe there is someone out there but no one I see getting hype seems to fit the bill.

I'd like to go to a 433/4231 and an attacking winger/inside forward type is a must for me and I'm expecting Depay to come in an do that. With one striker you need someone from wide or deep to attack the box and have that killer instinct around the goal. We don't have that right now, Di Maria, Adnan, Young are all the type who will look for the pass/cross and rather stay outside and leave the final finish to someone else. It's leaving Rooney in the box alone and even before van Persie and Falcao were just in the box alone. No movement in an out, just all static. Falcao and van Persie haven't been good but they haven't been helped by those around him. You need those runners in and out of the box. We are too easy to defend as it is just take care of out strikers and jobs done.

I wouldn't sign Falcao and I'd keep van Persie for another year. Still think he is a good player and hasn't been as bad as some think. I don't know much about Dybal, Vietto, Lacazzette etc. so I can't single one out but I'd like to see one of them or someone else come in. I'd then send Willo out on loan as I'm a big believer of loaning strikers. He needs the playing time which a start here and 10 minutes there isn't going to be enough. He is still getting used to the senior game, and even down in the reserves he is finding it tougher constantly being double and triple teamed. He took an absolute beating against Bolton last week. I'd like to see him on loan so he can just get into the swing of things, have his good games, have his bad games and just get used to the senior game. Willo would then come back and replace van Persie the year after.

Harry Kane? :wenger:

I'd love Kane but he's more unreal than Ronaldo atm. I also hope we start with selling RVP and not buying Falcao, Chicharito letting go as well. Would consider recalling Henriquez if there's still a chance, trying to do the most to loan him out to premier league club. He should be ready by the start of the next season. I'd be happy enough with Rooney, Wilson and another modern striker, not the one who can only score when team works for him. Not seen much of Lacazette or Dybala but they seem much like striekers able to beat their defender and pacy enough for our new built team.

Also think we need to desperately invest in wingers: Reus and Depay wouldn't cost that much I guess. Both player are able to be make shift striker or second striker if we decide to go back to 2 strikers system (I personally hope we gave up on that)

No point in throwing Mata in the mix because LVG doesnt rate him nor did Moyes or Mourinho bizzarely. Bale will still be a target and Depay might be too. Falcao will be gone imo but RVP wont. Would love to see Kane here but it wont happen this year. Think it will be Rooney RVP Wilson and Bale/Depay as front options.

What is this obsession with Depay? He's young and dutch, but has he actually shown much to suggest he's good enough? We need fast and technically talented players. I think Dybala and Vietto are very interesting, and I like the look of Nabil Fekir also. Berahino has mildly impressed me, so I wouldn't be against signing him either.

There are some expensive attacking players we have who should make room for new ones. Van Persie should do more, Fellaini starting doesn't fit the picture if we want to be successful and Mata's situation seems a bit difficult. Di Maria might turn out well despite him not really being an optimal signing. Nani and Hernandez are still our players, but I think both should go. We have too many attacking players who are on a career downgrade.

Lacazette is the obvious choice he's fast, skillful and good a finisher.

I just want to see the back of RVP and falcao though, I've had enough of them both they aren't good enough anymore and should be sold (or not bought in Falcao case) in the summer.

Rooney needs to be the man upfront.... without question... He scores goals consistently when he plays up top.

Striker isn't high up the priority list this summer as far as I'm concerned. I'd be happy going into next season with Rooney, RVP and Wilson while moving towards a single striker system. LVG seems to be heading this way but who knows what he'll do in the summer. We'll need a 4th if he's aiming for a 2 striker system long term.

It's got to the point where we need to think it might be us that's wrong.

That means you havent seen anything of Depay have you?

I only saw him in the World Cup, so I haven't seen enough to make a judgment. I was curious about people liking him so much, which I expressed a bit aggressively. Just from what I've seen, I'm not as excited about him as many others so I was wondering if he has really stood out in Eredivisie this season.

Ive made a point of keeping tabs on him by watching some PSV games this season and Ive been impressed. Also there was quotes attributed to Ed van Stijn who was supposedly the United scout who watched Ronaldo and he says that Depay is developing at a better rate than CR7 at that age. So it seems like he has potential
