Wilshere won't come and I don't think he's available at all, we can't pay Toure what he wants, Essien is gash these days and Eriksen is more of an offensive midfielder who we don't need. Dembele would probably be too expensive as well and I don't think Madrid will give up on Modric after a year. Tiote isn't good enough and I've barely seen Wanyama play.

From my source I've heard about Modric, but we will see if that deal will go through.

I would also like to point out Sneijder. Yes, he just signed for Galatasaray, but deals like that happens all the time and the player changes his mind and want a piece of the hot air again if he performs well.

We'll probably sell Anderson and buy Garay as a centre back but I'm sure he can do a job in midfield too if Carricks out.

Expect to see this in the big games next year if Carrick is injured.

-----------De Gea--------------
Smalling---Rio-Vidic-------Evra
---------Garay-Jones---------
Valencia---Rooney-----Welbeck
-----------RVP--------------

If it's true Madrid want Hernandez, we might have the basis of some kind of swap for Modric. No way we're getting Dembele or Wilshere. The first ship has sailed, and the second isn't leaving home waters for awhile.

By playing Carrick in every game, and only reluctantly playing Cleverley/Anderson in successive ones, Fergie has demonstrated the inadequacy of our present roster; but normal football logic is no guide to Fergie's actions.

we have had these threads sinc 2009. cant get my hopes high...,

ive heard Xavi Alonso would be avaiable for 8,5 mil. imo perfect cover for Carrick. would love to get him here.

plus some ball winning ball-chaser type of player would be sweet.

Fergie buying midfielders is like a muslim eating pork - it's not going to happen.

Xabi Alonso.......cover for Carrick........yeah, like he'd accept that, since well, he's better than him.

Alonso isn't going to come here. We should have signed him in 2003/4 when we had the chance and were apparently interested, now it's too late to make that move.

Javi Martinez or Dembele

Oh no, wait they were last years answers. Sorry.

I'd like to see Wanayama and Modric...Wilshere is a pipe dream and to be honest his injury record isn't encouraging.

Ah Ilkay Gundogan, now we're talking.

Garay. Jones and Rafael will be moved to midfield permanently. With Smalling as the new RB.

We need 2 midfield players in all seriousness, one creative type and one Carrick replacement, be it a destroyer type or a similar type of player to carrick. But we need 2 quality midfielders without a doubt, and that is if nobody leaves. When you think about it, we only have Carrick, Anderson, Cleverley and Jones/Giggs capable of starting in midfield for us these days. Scholes is probably retiring at the end of the season, and doesn't play because he is a liability when he does. Fletcher won't come back as a player more then likely, and even if he does he won't be good enough anymore. And of the list of 5 players, 1 is injured half the time, one is a versatile defender and one is a winger converted to an attacking mid who definitely can't start in a midfield 2 anymore.

Ideally, would like to see Strootman and Gundogan in. Both pretty realistic signings IMO, and would put our midfield on another level.

We need to sell Anderson. As much as i like him too inconsistent and frustrating plus he uses up a substitution each game when he plays.

Fletcher should not be counted right now and seen as a bonus if he comes back while Scholes will retire and Giggs should be seen as a Wing option or just a backup.

So that would mean, One more attacking midfielder who can control the game and one backup to Carrick.

We need two, so we will sign a striker and a center back.

One CB for sure. One winger is signed already and Another Goalkeeper maybe.

Then Lewandowski might be seen as too good to miss.

That's what we are linked with these days too.

Occasionally it happens by accident when someone hasn't clearly marked that something is pork. Perhaps there is someone out there who isn't clearly defined as a CM and we accidentally stumble across a solution to this thin midfield.

İlkay Gündoğan

He looks great for Dortmund but I'm not sure. Recently two of the best Dortmund players have left and neither of them really clicked at the new club - I know it's early days for Kagawa and Sahin didn't really get a chance at Madrid but there's something about that team that makes me thinks their players tend to perform much better together than they'd outside that team, overperform if that's what you want to call it. Another thing that backs me up here is Piszczek, Błaszczykowski and Lewandowski in national team - none of them are even close to their Dortmund level.

I think it's just a coincidence more than anything. I can't say I saw it first hand, but people who I know follow the Bundesliga closely say Gundogan was very good at a young age when he was at Nuremburg and has just built on that at Dortmund. You look at Reus who was a beast last season and has remained a thorn for the opposition all season long.

Sahin's move to Real always had failure written on it to me. With Alonso and Khedira so finely tuned it was always a tough ask to come in and get a good run, and he is no strange to injury either so it just panned out against him. Kagawa as well, it's not an excuse but that 2 month lay-off really messed up his season. He looks so naturally and technically gifted that I find it hard to believe that he won't build on his experience this year and really come out of his shell.

If Gundogan was English, I assume he'd be getting linked with us every week because they way he plays is very similar to the obvious gaping hole in our midfield options.

He's still got a lot to work on but I can't think of many players I'd want over him given his age, proven record with a club like Dortmund and his emergence as an international. Despite all that, I don't think he'll leave Germany.

I think the worst player of all of ours to be injured for a long period is Carrick. We're fecked without him and we need another player in his mould.

Darren Fletcher will be "like a new signing".
Cleverley a year older and fitter.
Powell ready to be a squad player.
It'll be Andersons season.
Carrick is excellent.
Giggs "can still do a job".
Jones is our defensive midfielder if needed.

Why would we need more than 7 players for 2 positions, eh?

There was a time not too long ago when you said this sort of thing to me in a very serious manner :)

Anyway, I'd prefer Lars Bender to Gündoğan.

Perhaps you're right. Sahin moved to a wrong club and Kagawa hasn't been used like he ought to be so far which must be the main reason.

Gundogan does look top class. Same goes for Reus, Götze, Hummels and Piszczek in that team. Of all Polish players there I reckon Piszczek is the best by some distance, if we didn't have Rafael I'd be advocating his move here.
