Which midfielder will we sign this summer?

So, what are the options? I think we need two, ideally.

Carrick has just had to play two games in two/three days, with the possibility of extra time today too. What does that say about our other midfield options? I can say with confidence that we'll have to sign a midfielder this summer, there's no way we can rely on him every game.
 
I don't think we will sign anyone in CM to be honest. With Giggs signing on for another year, Fletcher coming back and Jones getting game time their i just don't see Fergie signing anyone.

It's infuriating, but the boss seems to think we are ok in that position.

I reckon we'll sign another winger instead.
 
We'll pay £35m for Dembele, when we could have got him for £15m last summer.
 
Darren Fletcher will be "like a new signing".
Cleverley a year older and fitter.
Powell ready to be a squad player.
It'll be Andersons season.
Carrick is excellent.
Giggs "can still do a job".
Jones is our defensive midfielder if needed.

Why would we need more than 7 players for 2 positions, eh?

We all know it'll work out nothing like that. I was against signing a midfielder for a long time because I thought Morrison and Pogba were the answer, but I think it's almost guaranteed that we'll sign one now. Fergie won't have been happy having to play Carrick so much and he knows Jones isnt a midfielder.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Anderson sold.

He's at it all the time. Carrick is our only truly reliable midfielder and Cleverley can be good. The rest I don't really rate - Anderson will neve be good enough, Powell should go on loan, Fletcher will never return to his best and Jones should be played in defence.

Powell and Januzaj are the new Pogba and Morrison. They'll stop us looking to spend on an established midfielder, lets just hope they make the grade.
 
I think we'll sign Bender or Strootman plus another.

Yeah I think even the likes of Twigginator will have to stop with this shit in the summer. Well past this stage now. No idea who we will buy, I'm sure we'll have some targets lined up though.

Everyone who doesn't think we need a midfielder must be blind.

I doubt we'll sign one but we definitely need at least one.

Powell maybe, but I think Januzaj will spend a good while out wide if he's given a chance in the first team. What we need to be looking for, ideally, is another Pogba. As daft as that is.

A bit of magic wouldn't go amiss either, hopefully the Thiago rumours have some truth to them.
 
Oh, and we are forgetting about Tunnicliffe. He'll be the next Roy Keane.
 
Unless we sell Anderson then we won't be bringing anyone into that area. Again.
 
We're more likely to go out and buy yet more wingers, strikers and defenders than strengthen midfield.

Every transfer window off late I've started off with a bit of hope that yes maybe we'll finally sign a CM but it's something that I've now given up on. Some might see this as cynical but I can honestly see Fergie touting the "Fletcher is a new signing" line come the summer.
 
Scholes/Fletcher/Anderson out....two new faces brought in. One in a defensive mould to provide competion/back up for Carrick, the other who can dictate games and who is more 'attacking'.

Been asking for the second part for the past two summers, mind.

They're different players but I see a similar arc to Cleverley for Januzaj. A loan move with time coming from the wing at a Championship side, the same from a Premiership loan but with more time centrally before hopefully making it as a central player for us.
 
At least two CM, three if Ando is sold. And a winger, a good functioning one.

This would be ideal but I imagine we'll be told that Jones and Fletcher are Carrick's cover and Giggs and Anderson are Cleverley's cover.
 
Don't know why SAF is so unwilling to take a punt on midfielders. We took a chance on players like Young and Valencia, good players in shit teams. Don't see why we can't do that with someone like Cabaye who would definitely improve our squad.
