Less than a week until the season starts. Maybe one big deal to be done after the Bayern pair, but the club is close to where it's going to be for the season ahead. So I think we can start predicting.

I'm going 5th. We will be better post-Christmas, but not quite enough to get into the CL.

Stephen Warnock on the TV didn't even have United in his top 6 - I'm putting this in a spoiler because I don't mean for it to become the main talking point of the thread

@Damien / MODS - a poll would be interesting if possible

Pointless trying to answer this until the transfer window shuts.

Will have a better idea after the window closes. We definitely need another midfielder - I'll go for sixth in the meantime.

That doesn't surprise me. Warnock rarely puts us in top four predictions on BBC, and when he does it is in fourth:
2018-19: Man City Liverpool Chelsea Man Utd
2019-20: Liverpool Man City Tottenham Arsenal
2020-21: Liverpool Man City Chelsea Man Utd
2021-22: Man City Chelsea Liverpool Man Utd
2022-23: Liverpool Man City Tottenham Arsenal
2023-24: Man City Arsenal Liverpool Aston Villa

Pointless trying to answer this until the transfer window shuts.
By then we'll already be 19th and everyone will be voting "10th or below"

Season starts in 4 days and nice to get an idea before a ball is kicked

Unless something dramatic happens in the remaining transfer window, I will go with 6th.

Pretty confident about top 4 but not sure whether 3rd or 4th. Went with 3rd but Europa pressures mean 4th would have been a more reasonable bet.

5th place and CL football. Id consider that a success.

ETH will either get the squad playing, or we'll bring in a manager that will. Also a lot of young players that are only going to imrpove.

With a little luck and 115 charges, we may actually be in a position to mount a title charge next season

6th. I don't think the players are all behind this manager. Most would have thought he was already gone towards the end of last season. Those feeling will only deepen if we don't start well.

Cant see us being all of a sudden being able to implement Ten Hags system and he is too stubon to change. So we will again be relient on individual moments to win games. Think it will be the same story as last season.

I have gone for 6th. I can't even predict where we will be 6 months down the road. I think there will be improvement, but Erik will eventually claim "work in progress" at seasons end when we finish 6th. I'm usually wrong about these sort of things so let's hope I am about our final placing. As I say, keep the bar low..anything above that bar is progress.

Transfers and coaching reinforcements are very encouraging

If we sign a top DMF and dont get hit by injuries too bad, I reckon we could finish top 4, possibly even 3rd

I’ve gone for 5th, new defensive signings should tighten things up saving a few points throughout the season.
There’s time yet for more signings but that goes for your immediate rivals too.
Signing a striker is a must or I can see saving goals at one end will be cancelled out by lack of goals at the other.

Either way I expect an improvement on last season so 5th it is.

Whilst summer transfers, personnel changes in coaching and executive ranks, have all been superb, still think this new Ineos project needs time to bear fruit. Massive question marks over the manager. Hopefully he can finally put together a coherent style of play and make us a genuine force, rather than a team of occasional moments.

City and Arsenal will definitely sit above us. Liverpool will do okay as they have a stable squad, and think they’ll finish top four quite comfortably. Spurs and Villa have done smart business and have two good managers. Newcastle will be a threat if players stay fit and they add Guehi. And Chelsea are a total wild card..

There are 7 clubs who are good enough to finish above us even if we do okay. The depth in the league is ridiculous. Realistically, I think we’ll finish 5th or 6th. I’ve gone for 6th. But in my heart of hearts I’d be disappointed with that given the squad we have.

I think Garnacho and Diallo are really going to step up this season and we will be looking at two world class wingers.

Defensive reinforcements in De Ligt, Mazouri and Yoro going to be huge signings.

Still think we are badly short in midfield but if we can can manage a smart signing I'm highly confident of third, without new midfield signing I would say scrape fourth or fifth.

5th is not the majority...check the poll.
Huh? What are you seeing as holding the majority?

Edit: A quick Google cleared up my confusion. Majority can be interpreted in a way that makes us both correct.

Sadly, I have to agree with your overall points. There's a lot of pressure going into this season, more so than the previous two. No one at the club will be feeling it more than Ten Hag himself and we're already seemingly on the backfoot with our injuries going into matchday one and concerns over our options in various parts of the pitch.

One complaint I read about Ten Hag over at Ajax was that he wasn't very variable in his approach and famously stuck to his guns. I think we've seen that during his time here, especially last season. A poor start to the season will trigger alarm bells and I remain unconvinced in Ten Hag's ability to turn things around

Just messing about. No offence meant if any was taken.

Top 4 is possible, Liverpool could struggle, Chelsea are still a mess of rapid turnover, Spurs are Spurs and Villa will likely drop off with CL commitments. Only really see City and Arsenal as guaranteed for those spots.

Competition will be high. West Ham are gearing up and all the rest finished ahead of United last season. Injuries are already piling up with Hojlund, Yoro, and Shaw already out or doubtful. The entire backline is a sick note, so I'm expecting injuries to remain a problem. After injuries, the biggest issue is Ten Hag, who consistently managed to make the team less than the sum of its parts for pretty much most of last season. He has to begin delivering on the pitch. The midfield remains neglected as of yet.

I think 8th. Might make it to 7th or even 6th with Ugarte.

Top four is more than possible, it's likely and I'm surprised to see so many have already written us off.

Chelsea are a basket case and Liverpool will be suffering a post-Klopp hangover, and no amount of Slot PR pieces can change that. I still think they will make top four, but I don't think it will be as straightforward as everyone seems to think.

It's rare for a team that breaks into top four to sustain league success when dealing with CL (Villa) and I can see Ange having a second season syndrome experience with Spurs.

Newcastle I'm not worried about at all.

It will all depend on the amount of injuries we get, and whether we sign another DM. If we have another injury crisis then okay I see us failing to get top four. Casemiro + Collyer could cover us in DM but only if (massive if) Casemiro gets back to his first season form. Even then, we need cover if he is injured or (more likely) suspended.

I predict:

City
Arsenal
Liverpool
United

As I always do every season, it's the title for me.

In my head, I imagine us to finish somewhere around 4th-6th. I imagine we'll play better than last season, but the lack of goals and poor finishing will cost us over a longer period of time. E.g. we may finish games 1-1 instead of being able to fight to get the winning goal.

I've gone with fourth, purely because I can see Liverpool having a middling season. City and Arsenal will claim 1st and 2nd, and then I'd say we're in a fight with Chelsea and Spurs to get that 4th spot. I can see Chelsea getting 3rd, us getting 4th and Spurs getting 5th. It also wouldn't surprise me if we finished 5th and Spurs 4th.

I'm hoping there's a nice Striker coming in .. I be happy with that.. 3rd place

Top 3 for sure. Without last season's injuries, Top 4 would have been a stroll.

I fancy sixth, because although I think we will be a little better, we are still making signings, trying to shift players. So it's an unsettled feel to things and a bit of a spillover from last season. Any players coming in will need to settle, quickly. The good thing is they don't need to be amazing to improve us.

I worry about how we play, which still seems unclear (are we a counter-attacking team??) and I worry about a lack of goals.

Same. It is his lack of pragmatism that does it for me. Yes, he never had a settled center back combo for much of last season, but still, he insisted on playing out of the back and not providing adequate cover for them. There was times when it was Casemiro and Evans yet he didnt plug the gaps in midfield to protect them. Crystal Palace away comes to mind.
Plenty of talk about ETH in the ETH thread.

Gone for 4th but 3rd is possible.

I think Liverpool are going to struggle more than expected with Klopp gone.

Too early to say but I would guess 5th/6th. With a better manager 3rd.

6 or 7th I think. It will take time to fully benefit from the structure change and I expect us to undergo a manager change during the season.

I've gone for 5th with what we know right now.

We need to bring in at least one very good midfielder else we will be short. I'm also a bit worried about where the goals will come from. Rashford needs to capture some form or one of Hojlund / Zirkzee need to have decent campaigns for us.
