Where does Ancelotti rank among all time great managers?

Probably the goat now despite the league record.

Him and Pochettino are neck and neck in the goat discussion. Hard to separate them.

He was out coached by Terzic in this match, difference was he had Vinicius while Terzic had Adeyemi.

He's rightfully not regarded as a tactically great manager but rather a great great man manager.

Easily one of the all time greats, perhaps maybe even the greatest.

He’s just done the treble double on top of all the other accolades. He’s in any conversation by now.

For me easily the second best just behind Sir Alex. Would loved him here after Sir Alex

Despite?

He’s won leagues in five countries.

Probably a clear no.2 now.

For sure but he probably should have more, admittedly he's taken big steps to putting that right at Madrid this time though.

I'd put him above Sir Alex now. With no disrespect to Sir Alex, 5 CL's to 2 is indisputable to me.

Everton still a black mark in an otherwise brilliant career

Why is that, he took a team fighting relegation and stabilized them the first months. And the next season he had them in contention for Europe for most of the season. Finished top half... The only managers in the history of Everton with higher ppg are from the 70s and 80s...

He started this season losing his best player, and without a first choice striker. He's somehow managed to win the CL by making it work without a striker.

Tactically he's undoubtedly fantastic.

And eclectic. Best dynamic manager in the game currently.

This is his Everton legacy, I honestly can't see anything to be ashamed of. (Actually he deserves praise for accepting the job to begin with given the risks for his career, he could have got relegated and his career at the top was over for good..)

Yea that's true. I'm just royally pissed at how Dortmund lost this match

Even today, though Terzic got the better off him early with Maatsen playing in central midfield when Dortmund had the ball (though it's something they're used throughout the season since they signed him) and Maatsen didn't have to worry about his side because it was Valverde on his side. Anchelotti moved Rodrygo to the right and that stopped Maatsen from shifting in more, Dortmund lost any control they had.

His trophy cabinet says he's the best but the eye test doesn't really confirm it, similar to Zidane.

It is because winning the top honors (WC and CL) requires pragmatic football and we are yet to see the high pressing acolytes prove this statement wrong.

This is also exactly why I dont fall for the Pep wankfest. With the teams he had, he should have won more than anyone in Europe. This goes for all high pressing sexy football managers. It is cool when you play weaker sides but on the top level, that style is exposed due to all the space you leave behind and how hard it is to execute.

I disagree. After all, Guardiola has won the UCL thrice and is probably the coach with the most semifinals. Having him increases your chances of winning massively, against minnows as well as top teams. Madrid lives off their incredible mentality, they punish you for not converting your dominance into a lead immediately. So far that has been extremely successful in the UCL but I'd say a Guardiola team with that kind of mindset would be unstoppable.

Southgate is very successful with England for almost a decade now but he is no great tactician either. I know Southgate hasn't won anything yet, but despite being a shite tactician he is the best England manager in recent times.
That's two awful takes in row.

I think Carlo has the most semi-finals as well. One ahead of Pep after beating Pep this year.

No one with a bit of football knowledge would see him as tactically not great.

Very interesting. But I guess at the end of their careers, Pep will have more considering he started as a first divison coach almost a full decade after Ancelotti. If you think about it, 3 UCLs in 15 years is a pretty decent return and that it is perceived as not enough says much about Guardiola.

Currently he's the second best manager out there. You get him the players, he gets you the trophy.
Pep is still a better tactician, that still gives him an advantage in my eyes.

Ancelotti is the closest one to Sir Alex.

His tenures at Everton and Bayern were nothing special.

I think we can all agree:
1. Sir Alex Ferguson
2. Matt Busby
3 Carlo Ancelotti
4. Who cares

Have always loved Ancelotti. A proper old school manager.

If we give ETH another year, maybe next summer we go for Ancelotti and Madrid get Alonso?
