Where do you rank Mason Greenwood as a talent?

Yaaaaaawn, the 'has to prove it in the PL/Liga' is boring and redundant. Pretty sure Aguero would score loads of goals anywhere he goes, he's always done that whether it's La Liga, or the PL. Also the CL is just as short of a tournament as a WC and he's proven himself on both those stages.

You don't need to see someone play in the PL or La Liga to see if they've improved or not, you just watch them game in and game out, and see how their production improves, and the league is the best competition to gauge it because it's a marathon and it's about consistency whereas tournaments can be prone to purple patches and aren't the best indicator of someone's average level of performance.

Martial came straight in from Monaco and had his best season as a professional his first year in England with a mediocre United team at 19. Greenwood (just to keep it on topic) is an 18 year old scoring for fun in the PL from the academy, it's not this crazy jump up in challenge for the really talented players that you make it out to be, there's a lot of garbage teams in every league and there are good ones as well.
Mbappe will be just fine whenever and wherever he does move.

He will leave PSG within a couple of years and wreck whichever league he lands on, although it's very difficult to see him go anywhere but Madrid in the near future. I get where you're coming from with his price tag and the current climate, but Madrid is more than capable of surprising everybody and getting him when it's least expected.

Anyways, we're probably derailing the thread a bit too much with this, you can PM me if you want to continue the discussion but in the mean time we can agree to disagree but I have no doubts time will prove me right.

I could, SAF did, nothing weird about him. Ability wise he was always on a different level to the likes of Rooney. It was consistency and maturity that was all he needed, and the media to get off his back. I’m a massive Greenwood fan, he has an absolute stand out ability...finishing. His alround game is superb, but go and watch the FA Cup final in 03-04 and watch Ronaldo’s performance he was breathtaking in a way Greenwood isn’t. This isn’t a slight on Greenwood, Ronaldo is one of the greatest players who ever lived is all. You only needed eyes back then to know he would go onto become one of the best players in the world.

Ronaldo was always more talented, I was at that game....yet another masterclass from Ronaldo in his teenage years. His ability was on another level to Rooney. No disgrace in that, Rooney had other attributes that made up for that until Ronaldo matured.
But on their best days Ronaldo was better.

??? Your post is so contradictory. And tbh I don't even understand what you were trying to say with Aguero and the WC stuffs. It seem you don't even understand some of what I said.

Man, Messi or Ronaldo wouldn't be considered what they're now even if they score like 40-50 goals in L1 for 10 years, especially playing for PSG. If you're trying to say that Mbappe would only need to stay at PSG to be considered at that level by you then it's fine. But if he wants to be considered at such level by the world, he must go to the PL or Liga and score 40-50 goals there on a regular basis mate.

I've read people saying that they knew CR7 was going to become what he became, and I just can't buy it as anything but revisionist history. SAF had no idea CR7 would become what he became either, I think we all knew he could be one of the best players in the world with a lot of work, but nowhere was there any indication he'd be a 40-50 goals/season scorer or an all-time great in the future. At that time, Quaresma was considered just as talented, Rooney was considered also a bigger talent around 2004 when they both featured at the Euro, I've seen CR7 consistently from 2004 onwards and he just seemed like a talented tricky winger that had a good cross, heading ability, dribbling, physique, and speed, but didn't makes very good decisions and had inconsistent production. Greenwood is just as impressive, if not more, but in a different way to CR7, who became a very different player to become this all-time great player than what he was when he first got to England.

I'm very clear in what I wrote, but you're making two different arguments. You talk about progression in one post and then you're talking about recognition here, two different things. I said you don't need to see him in a different league to see if he's making progress every year, you can just see it by the improved performances and output. I think you're the one who's confused on what he's arguing. I agree about recognition will be heightened in the PL or La Liga, but that was never what we were talking about.

I think he's going to become a very good striker but probably lacks a bit of speed and spark - though he is still developing, so would be interesting to see how it shapes up in the next few years.
 
Best young player I seen since Rooney and Ronaldo were here.
 
Honestly, he's as good as any young player I've ever seen. Give him a 10 year contract. He is the absolute don.

He still physically underdeveloped and can put on so much more muscle into his calves, quads and hamstrings.

Can’t imagine how much more powerful his full power shots will be in years to come.
 
He's reminding me right now of Mbappe at the world cup and the season before. Has that quality where it looks like someone's cheating on a video game. Makes finishing look much easier than it appears to be for other players.

This is now an attack with five prongs all of which potentially merit individual attention. A team with any one of Pogba, Bruno, Rashford, Martial and Greenwood might expect that player to be targeted defensively by the opposition. But how do you stop all of them at once?
 
Lacks the athletic ability to play wide long-term, but his finishing ability, control, and nose for goal indicate he could sort out our no. 9 position for a long time. I could see him playing very much in the mould of Van Persie for us. We must find ways to get him lots of game time next year if Sancho comes - at this stage of his development the most important growth is going to come from playing week in and week out.
