When will we stop being crap?

As long as the Glazers are the majority owners of the club we won’t achieve anything important.

Took over Salford in FM , in 2032 I played Utd in a championship fixture so things aren’t so bad now

When the blokes employed to sort out the football start shifting the crap and start replacing them with people that aren't their mates. The Woodward and Arnold era's have set the place back a decade. Between them and the crap allowed to be signed by Ole and Erik are mindboggling.

Who knows but it’s definitely getting worse! I know the recruitment has been poor but the players/ squad we have is definitely better than 8th last season and the 13th place we currently find ourselves in at the moment. Losing to Nottingham Forest at home is automatically due the fact we’ve got awful players but something is deeply wrong at this football club.

We need highly highly technical players. You look at Odegardde for Arsenal he can play one touch football and gives the perfect weighted pass. We have very few players like that in our attack.

Anthony, Rashford, shaw, maguire, have to be gotten rid of this summer. Bruno is 30 so id be also looking at him.

What you have to do then is sign highly technical possession based footballers.

Id be looking at (based on this system) a LWB, a MF, a 10 straight away. Then maybe a striker - maybe rasmus can come good?

You lose the ball in this system and you pay a heavy price. Garnacho and rashford both lost it in the build up to arsenals goals midweek. Bruno lost it today for forests second goal.

The spanish football team is case in point when they won the euros. We instead look like england relying on individual brilliance all the time.

It's coming. Only been a few weeks but we are noticeably far better coached and heading in the right direction. We're dominating games, we're moving it around well, spreading the pitch well, getting attackers in good areas and chances are falling to the right players.

Set pieces need a transformation, currently defensive ones are shit but the attacking ones have been decent. Individual quality needs to improve, can't make mistakes like some of the ones we've made, and then confidence and composure to not panic or lose your head after a mistake or a set back.

Importantly though we are clearly developing a good dominant style of play, and it's working. In the past we only really showed the positive signs in transition moments which we've always known is a strength, but not really something we can build onto being a dominant team. That's changing IMO

Great to read something positive! I need a bit of this. Feeling so fed up with this team at this point.

When we stop being selfish and learn to play as a team. Dalot in particular should be called out on his unforgivable decision to blast the ball over the bar from 30 yards instead of passing to teammates in good positions. Garnacho too needs to learn to be a team player.

If they’re not up to it they need to go ASAP.

It’s going to take a few years because we are stuck with a lot of this dross until their contracts run out. Someone behind the scenes is going to have to have the balls/sense to start selling off likes of Rashford, Martinez, Mount and Dalot as well as allowing most contracts to expire.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I don't think we are ever going back to being regular title challengers.

It may be 30 years like Liverpool to be honest.

Short term It would aid our cause to actually identify a setup and ethos we want to play under and sign players for it.

Personnel we have at the moment makes our side totally dysfunctional in my opinion - Rashford, Garnacho, Antony are all wingers that want to get in behind or cut inside and shoot.

Hojlund is a good finisher in my opinion but we only have one winger interested in servicing him in Diallo.

Bruno is geared up towards playing hail marys all the time which puts him in the same ball park as Rashford, Garnacho, Antony.

Zirkzee drops deep into the same space as Bruno.

Mason Mount is a water boy

So we dont really have a functional set of forward players to play either a possession based game or a full counter attack, but we already saw under Ole the limitations of that system.

Our midfield has generally been garbage for the last decade.

A lot of our players show glimpses of quality or potential but to me its all fancy looking jigsaw pieces from different jigsaw sets that dont actually combine to make anything.

Think we may need some brave decisions to sacrifice some players we feel are key and to get a set that make some sort of on the same page team

I’d like to see players calling each other out on the pitch more when they make an utterly stupid decision or mistake. If they can’t take it and learn from it they can go. This isn’t a kindergarten, we’re supposed to be a professional sports team where only the strongest minded survive. We’ve let it become a weak minded outfit with no repercussions.

You could say that the process is well underway off the pitch now, it's just going to take a bit longer for us to start seeing the benefit of this on it.

If I’m being honest we need so many new players…

New GK
New LCB
Yoro New RCB
Diallo Ugarte New CM Mazraoui
New 10 New 10
New ST

De Ligt, Martinez, Mainoo, Garnacho, Hojlund, Zirkzee, Bruno, Rashford, Mount etc should all be on the bench or sold.

When we stockpile press resistant players.
This is probably the greatest load of shite I have ever seen. The obsession with so called “press resistant “ players is beyond a joke. We will be a decent side when we get rid of the abskluge crap footballers who are currently on the books. If you want to include Englands latest saint, the captain, Argentinas hope and the rest of them. Press resistant my bollocks. Get players in.

Tbf I'd happily go to the pre-ole era. We were bad, but we weren't the joke that we became under Ole and ETH. The damage the two if them did to the clubs standing might be irreversible.
Get a grip for feck sake

A goalkeeper who is consistent, a couple of wingbacks, a CM who can pass and keep possession and a couple of decent strikers and we may start looking better. That's gonna be January and summer transfers combined so I'm gonna hold out hope for next season.

A decade of making the same mistakes and expecting a different outcome. Need to be a club with competence off the field first before becoming any way decent and consistent on it.

Let's break it down.:
1950s and 1960s great.
1970s and 1980s crap
1990s and 2000s great
2010s and 2020s crap
2030s and 2040s great??

The 20 year cycle will come again!

The likes of Ugarte and Mazraoui do give me hope that player recruitment will be better and will be more hit than miss (we need a good window or two). You are seeing glimpses of improvement on the pitch when it clicks. You can see Amorim and what he's trying to do. These aren't Amorim's players, he inheriting an erratic team. We've made significant backroom staff changes with Ashworth, Berrada.
We're in for an up and down few months.

Klopp replaced Rodgers in October 2015, his league record was 13 wins, 9 draws, 8 defeats. He also got them to 2 cup finals. 2016/17 he got them champions league football by finishing 4th, 2017/18 he got them to a champions league final and were a competent goalie away from winning

All successful team have great midfield. Need two proper midfielders along with ugarte then United will be stopped as being crop. Don't bring mainoo. He is not the solution for minimum next few years.

Iused to wonder the same about my team, and then boom it just happened. This is different though. Something seems rotten. I think the only way is to gut the squad and start with the liked of Rashford. Get rid of all the egos but more importantly you need s manager who’s capable of doing this and with the backing of the club.

Gave a failing manager a contract extension in the summer only to sack him 2 months late and costing the club £20m. Now they’re whacking up ticket prices.

Would have cost so much to sack him in the summer, too.

There was a time we had Cavani, Greenwood, Rasghford, Bruno and pogba to score & create goals. Now we have players who won't make top half teams. Who signed off signing these players like Hojlund, Zirkzee and mount etc needs to be answerable

Though I concur about Zirlzee and Hojlund, the players you mention were given plenty of time and motivation to plant us on our perch and failed.

One had to belatedly leave the club as he was caught assaulting his girlfriend.

Let's not become dewy over Ole's reign, we were a distant second, at best, under his tenure.
As long as the Glazers are the majority owners of the club we won’t achieve anything important.

We've already won the lot with them as majority owners. Your argument is more about management than anything other.

Seriously, as bad as the Glazers are, we have spent a billion in player recruitment and failed on various fronts and, before you begin, this is not an exoneration.

Just a reminder the club has spent a cool billion and repeatedly failed. We need to correct the mentality around the club and going cock-a-hoop about devious new owners is akin to extinguishing a raging bonfire with kerosene.

It will take time.

Our top scorer in the league last year had 10. Our top scorer nearly halfway through the season is on 4. Horrendous stuff

Patience. Look at Chelsea they were shit too and now they're back to challenging for titles. A couple of transfer windows will fix the problem.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I don't think we are ever going back to being regular title challengers.
Nothing Arsenal did was particularly special. They got a good manager and signed some good players and now they are regular title challengers
Absolutely no reason Amorim won't turn us into the same if he gets good players and is backed by competent upper management (which by all accounts INEOS is)

They also got rid of some big names which seemed controversial at the time but is now paying dividends. We have to get rid of Bruno and Rashford and allow better players to be bought. That will rejuvenate the club. You cant look at those players as your seniors and expect to be inspired.

Are they? Seems to me more like they had a respectable period of two years where they challenged for the title. Remains to be seen if they'll keep doing it though.

Hard to predict but when we overhaul our midfield I'd say. Bin off Mount, Casemiro and Eriksen and replace them with three quality players.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I don't think we are ever going back to being regular title challengers.
You have nothing to worry about.
It is inevitable that a club the size of Utd will be title challengers again.

If we fail to qualify for Europe (Europa/CL) this season and use the summer to massively trim the squad by getting rid of every player who a) is being paid far too much compared to their performance level b) is not good enough c) is not tactically suitable for how we want to play, and go into next season with a smaller squad adding only genuine quality / very high potential younger players, I think we could stop being shite next season.

If we address the squad building slower but similar to last summer, then I suspect the 2026-2027 season is when we'll be genuinely good again, and maybe not shite next season but sort of in between.

It bears repeating that Amorim joined the club mid-season and has absolutely zero time to really work on the training pitch, so this was always going to take a ton of time.

All the previous managers that I can remember other than Moyes who got the least time other than interim managers managed to get us a decent finish or playing decently well. Some did it instantly like Ole and then spent a long time trying to recapture it, others took a while to get going. Amorim is very likely to be the same. Whether its this season or next he'll probably get us back in the top 4, or playing entertaining football at some point.

We'll still be crap compared to the best teams but its not really crap.

When we replace about two thirds of the squad with players that both have footballing intelligence and the ability to run.

It's all about recruitment.

If we assume we've hired the correct CEO, sporting director etc, and we now have the right coach in Amorim, then next we obviously need to recruit the right players.

So many of the players we've signed have been utter trash. We buy lower to midtable quality players for world class prices
Agree. I would look to the young players to get game time as well. Basically RA could use this season to try a youth player a game and hopefully can find a gem or two along with the new recruits in the summer.
