What would be an acceptable offer for Pogba?

So you think, on December 14 2018 (the date of my original post), if faced with the hypothetical opportunity to exchange Torreira for Pogba, Arsenal would have said 'yes'? That's fine, but I have my doubts (and it would certainly have been interesting to have posed the same question on an Arsenal forum!).

Oh my god

We're likely to make a loss on Paul Pogba when we sell him - his value to a Premier League team is less than any of the players I listed above. Our best chance of a decent fee is for a southern European team to come in for him, and that would also be the best outcome for Paul Pogba himself. If we can get £50 million, that would be reasonable.
This is the stupidest thing I've read in this forum. By far

Pogba is very marketable. His Instagram alone would worth 50 millions.
He's the perfect Woodward' player, no fecking way the club would want to sell him for anything lower than 120m.

At least 200 million. Nothing less. He is a great player if you man manage him properly. Plus, the commercial benefits of having him in your club needs to also be taken into account.

Some gems in here. In fairness to everyone, we should just start this thread again.

United shouldn't even be contemplating selling him. He should be part of a great United team that hopefully will be built in the next few seasons.

I find people's tendency of doubling down fascinating. Just saying I was wrong and moving on would make people respect you more instead of coming up with ridiculous arguments.

The answer would of course be yes, one of the best midfielders in the world at 25 in exchange for a prospect worth way less is the very definition of a no brainer. Arsenal would think United had lost their fecking minds to even propose that deal.

Honest question mate are you on a wind up?

Between this and the Keane rubbish a few pages back this thread has become a farce.

Happy to admit I've properly changed my tune on this since Mourinho left!

A club would have to put at least £250 million on the table for Pogba to even turn my head.

Mourinho has a way of ostracising players from the club, turning fans against players. Hazard and others were labelled rats by some sections of the Chelsea fans. I wasn’t suprised some fans here went against Pogba and wanted him out, even i was disappointed in his attitude on the pitch and some of his performances, but he wasn’t alone in those games. I knew that once Jose was out of here that Pogba would get back to his best and that we as fans would get back on side almost immediately. Its the poison that Mourinho has about him.

Pogba as good as he is has not even reached Keane's level yet (if he ever does) never mind being twice the player. You can't have watched much of Keanes career, or you only caught the tail end of it and are judging him entirely by that.
He can’t have watched much football I think you meant to say.

Not for sale for any price.

Would Real Madrid sell prime Ronaldo? Would Barca sell prime Messi?
or would City sell prime De Bruyne?

No fecking way.

I don't think Pogba has covered himself in glory this last 12 months but no way we should sell at any price right now. I want to see Pogba smashing it for the remainder of the season and beyond and EARN his status of fans favourite. At the minute he's nothing more than our best outfield player.

I mean he did win the World Cup 6 months ago so he's covered himself in at least a little glory this past year ;)

Still can't believe Jose managed to convince certain folks in here that Pogba should go and he should stay. This thread should be closed.

There is no acceptable offer for Pogba. If we have any hope of returning to the top we need Pogba and more players of his quality.

I'm still eating the humble pie (and I hope I keep eating it from seasons to come), but I wantd both Jose and Pogba out tbh.

I get you, I meant for UTD. I'm no raving Jose fanboy but really didn't appreciate Pogba's behaviour during that whole period. Let's just see him make it up to us now by playing this well for the majority of the remaining games.

I took the opportunity to browse an Arsenal forum to see what the fans thought of Torreira around the middle of December. Judging by the lavish praise he was getting, I'm sure you wouldn't have found many takers there for the swap. I guess, to use a quote from Arsene Wenger, "everyone thinks they have the prettiest wife at home" (he said that when Van Nistlerooy and Henri were being compared).

Same for me. Hopefully he keeps this up. Everyone knew he was capable of it, just whether he had the mentality.

An acceptable offer for pogba:

250million in cash
50million per year premium on his marketing rights for the duration of the contract
The man united private plane fuelled and staffed for the duration of the contract
All season tickets for Manchester United fans paid in full by the purchasing club
The script for what happened after the last scene of the sopranos
Conclusive proof on who killed Kennedy
The current real time location of DB cooper
A popcorn machine in my apartment building

i don't understand why we are even entertaining the idea. close the thread, he's not for sale at any price.

I’m confused do those Arsenal fans on that forum decide who Arsenal signs or sells?

Had that deal you proposed been offered to Arsenal FC at any time this season. Torreira would have been travelling north within the hour. They’d have hired a helicopter and rappelled him into carrington.

And the third book from Patrick Rothfuss while we are at it.

Fans on here love Rashford and Martial, and some wouldn't want to swap one of them for Mbappe. But if PSG were stupid enough to offer that trade our board wouldn't even hesitate to take it.

Just accept that you've had a horror show in this thread mate. £50m for Pogba ffs. As others have said, the only one of those players that you mentioned who wouldn't be instantly traded without a moments of hesitation by their clubs would be de Bruyne. Form is temporary, class is permanent. A bit of bad form (which was being significantly exaggerated by our manager and the media) doesn't wipe out everything he has achieved already and how ridiculously talented he is.

What I'm saying is that what people on this forum think, and what the outside world thinks, are not necessarily one and the same thing. The case for Pogba on December 14 wasn't anything like as compelling as it may seem now. The question was a hypothetical one, so none of us know the answer with any certainty. Personally I doubt Arsenal would have had much interest in the swap, and you think otherwise. Fine.

Well I am certain enough that you are wrong sorry.

I accept that valuation was way too low, albeit with the benefit of hindsight. At the time, I expected Mourinho to linger on for several months, and Pogba to be disposed of in some sort of fire sale in January. Had that happened, he would have been damaged goods - not in the 1st XI, attitude questioned - and that would have impacted on his selling price. Looking back, maybe the board felt their hand was forced as they didn't want to offload their marquee player to placate a manager who would have been gone at the end of the season anyway.

On Mbappe (a bit off topic, I know), I probably would accept him in place of Martial, but not Rashford. As you say though, it's not something PSG are likely to offer anyway.

He isnt for sale, and he wont want to be now Jose has been rightly booted out. We should build the team around him. Best out field player at the club imo. We havent seen the best of him yet but since Ole came in we are starting to see glimpses.

Yeah and what fans on an Arsenal forum think and what the board of Arsenal football club think are almost certainly not the same.

I do they would have snapped United's hands off.

And send Aubameyang, Ozil or whatever other player we would have wanted with him. You know, those buy one, get one free offers.
