What next for Thomas Tuchel?

In other words Tuchel decided to go to war against Hoeneß. Should be fun.
"I don't blame Thomas Tuchel, he often had dinner with me at Tegernsee, I get along with him very well. But he has a different take. He does think he can improve a Hoeneß, a Hainer or a Dreesen."

Not surprised. It is just a matter of what kind of terms can convince Tuchel to stay. He has no need to make any decision until Bayern's CL journey is over.

Bayern could just buy out Ten Hag's contract but there has to be a cheaper less risky option for them.
We're not that desperate. :nono:

I'm actually on the fence lately, because he started to be very pragmatic, precisely what's needed for Bayern transition the fastest. But I don't know how his impact in the long-term will affect Bayern if he continues.

Preferably a 1 year extension and we can part ways if it doesn't work. If he continues next year at Bayern that also means the administration is backing him up enough to clean up the squad and bring new players.

Think it would be good for Bayern if he stays. De Zerbi could turn out an even better coach but all the other options they have are worse. The next season is going to be one of the more important for them since they host the CL finale and they have to convince Musiala and Wirtz that they are the best option for them going forward. If they present themselves in similar fashion to this season, Wirtz will likely ignore them and Musiala could hesitate to renew.

Here's hoping Uli prevails one last time ;)

Would love to swap managers with Manchester. However, not from the red but the blue side.

Tbf if Bayern have just been rejected by Rangnick then I don't think you taking Ten Hag is that far fetched, as isn't Tuchel joining United.

Actually, I can see ETH coming to Bayern. He has been there before, knows the idiots in charge, his Ajax played similar to what Bayern wants to play, and only because a coach fails at one club, doesn’t mean he is automatically destined to be a failure everywhere.

The issue with Erik has been individual decisions he's made this season that has narrated the teams direction. Injuries have been a superficial issue but the fundamental problems have been tactical.

If Bayern intend to hire the most important conversation should be what he's planning to do with the team from the outset. Murtough and Richard Arnold looked like absolute amateurs, so even those in charge at Bayern are a considerable upgrade on what United had formerly with the two.

Can see Tuchel at Newcastle maybe. If we don’t get him.

Loving Tuchel giving the middle finger to the Bayern hierarchy who thought they could do better.

It's no coincidence Nagelsmann doesn't want to come back either. There's some proper clownery going on in Bayern's C-suite and they need cleaning out first. Didn't they also try to push that Qatar sponsorship onto the fans as well and got a massive backlash?

Tuchel needs a new fresh start and he'll get it here. I've always rated him after the miracle he pulled off at Chelsea.

Didn't United go like most of this season never being able able field the same defensive line twice in a row? I remember Evans playing quite a bit too. There's only so much you can do tactically when you're forced to constantly reinvent the team to make up for injuries...

Back to Chelsea is a good option too given the young players already available in the team.
Ye maybe. Although poch seems to be turning it around a little. Think he’ll be given the start of next season.

IMO

I posted few days ago that I would accept Tuchel for another year, to clear the dross at Bayern, but I changed my mind(fickle, yes).

As a fan of Bayern, I find it unacceptable to play on a counterattack and defend low, being transformed into the passive side on the pitch and without stringing 5 passes together. Football has moved on from these times, you can nick a cup here and there sometimes, but it can't give you sustainable succes, especially his extreme approach to win games. Never go full Mourinho. Fck

Taking out all attacking options at 1-0 was totally nauseating.

Good riddance!

He made some stupid substitutions yesterday.

When he made them I think the whole world said they were stupid, but you’d think nah he must know something 99% of the people don’t. He’s a professional coach after all.

Quite insane how it turned out.

I do not want this person near United. Imagine all the problem we have had to continue plus an added problem of manager and management have a go at each other. Sorry, there is enough drama at my club.

How you think you got the 1-0 lead. By playing with the exact correct tactics, but let´s blame the manager for the school boy errors by Neuer. First the long throw into a crowded space that led to a quick turnover, while Pavlovic was still out of the game, then the schoolboy error that led to the goal. Let´s blame Tuchel for the players inability to put together two passes on numerous counterattacking options, including a 4 on 1 that did not even result in a shot attempt. Yeah stupid Tuchel, let´s play offensive possession based football with sloth defenders and attackers that can´t string together two easy passes to finish off the game. The reality is that your roster depth is trash.

Apparently he did know something 99% of the people didn't:
"We started with four offensive players, and in the end all four have to be subbed out. That's simply too much. (...) Serge is out, Leroy Sane played with pain and pain and pain and treatment, Harry Kane had back problems, and Jamal was just dead after having an injury over the last weeks. It's just a huge difference if you make changes because you want to do the changes, to change something and have an impact, or you just react to injuries, and that was the case today."

In light of this, so many pundits and social media channels going nuts over these subs is rather embarassing:
https://talksport.com/football/1860077/bayern-munich-harry-kane-thomas-tuchel-champions-league/
talkSPORT pundit Cundy was left flabbergasted by Tuchel's brave decision, as he ripped into the ex-Chelsea boss, stating he should bare responsibility for Bayern's defeat. Speaking on The Sports Bar, he said: "It’s unforgivable. I don’t get at 85 [minutes] taking off Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala. Thomas Tuchel, at that level, that’s probably one of the worst managerial substitutions I think I’ve ever seen. It didn’t feel right at the time and I was thinking he had to win this otherwise people will talk about that. You weaken your own side and you give your opponents a lift."

Owen Hargreaves, who won the competition with Bayern and Manchester United, also questioned Tuchel's decision to replace Kane with Choupo-Moting, who has scored just three goals this term. The TNT Sports pundit remarked: "I tell you what was unexpected, Harry Kane going off the pitch. That’s one of the biggest subs I’ve ever seen in a game of football of that magnitude."

"To take off a guy who has scored 44 goals, who is the most durable player pretty much anywhere. And bring on another striker in Choupo-Moting. Maybe he wanted height for corners, I don’t know… you cannot take him off! There’s five minutes left, maybe ten minutes injury time, 15 minutes left. I said straight away, 'Real Madrid are going to score'. And then what? That’s one of the biggest calls I’ve seen, I don’t know why they made that call. I love Tuchel, but... the subs, everyone is going to be talking bout that. You cannot take Harry Kane off."

Hargreaves' ex-United teammate Paul Scholes then suggested there was an air of arrogance surrounding the substitution. He said: "In some ways it’s almost an arrogant sub. Thinking I can afford to take your biggest goalscorer, biggest threat off the pitch and still go on and beat Real Madrid."
Some even kept it up after they knew of the injury reasons:
https://www.skysports.com/football/...-munich-slipped-to-defeat-against-real-madrid
Will Thomas Tuchel regret taking Harry Kane off as Bayern Munich slipped to defeat against Real Madrid?

"Even with more than 15 minutes of added time played, Bayern were unable to force extra time - and their chances of doing so were hampered by Tuchel's decision to replace Kane and Jamal Musiala just minutes before Joselu scored. They were decisions that backfired dramatically."

"Tuchel said after the game that he had to replace all four of his attackers - Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane were subbed earlier in the game - due to injuries and cramp. But with so little time left and Bayern only holding a one-goal advantage, could Tuchel have asked Kane to tough it out for the rest of the game? Even if physically diminished, Kane has 44 goals this season and provides more of a threat than Thomas Muller and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, the forwards with a combined age of 69 that Tuchel summoned from the bench."

On complaints about Bayern playing underdog/transition football, I agree with @LilienFan. This squad isn't one to go to the Bernabeu and dominate possession, even if everyone was available & healthy. Having Real on the brink of defeat in a high intensity duel was an achievement, and I think this CL campaign is the one thing Bayern can be proud of this season.

Tactics didn't work though. Bayern got beaten from pillar to post for 90 minutes. Neuer was their best player until that mistake, by far. Arguably he was their best player even with the mistake. Relying on your goalkeeper to win you the game single-handedly isn't a tactic

He already managed Chelsea. So the the next move would be Man United, Spurs and then As Roma.:(

sounds like he's the next United manager

Those substutitions were needed since all attackers were injured. The problem is, that Tuchel did not simply rest the entire team on the weekend.

This.
I didn't see anything outstanding from Tuchels management last night even before Neuer's mistake and the subs, which were justified to be fair.

Was Neuer having 6 point blank miracle saves part of the tactics as well?

He deflected the blame from himself by focusing on the offside and throwing Neuer under the bus.

Do not want.

However, I do like his Werner Herzog accent.
