Think we need one or two WBs, a CB, two CMs, an AM and a striker. Not sure how we get all that done.
I really want Quenda and he could play on the left or the right but resources will be limited. I think Doughty would be excellent value at LWB but RWB is more pressing. In an ideal world, we get both but can’t see that happening with limited funds. I’d even consider selling Dalot. Should be good for PSR and while I like Dalot a lot, I don’t think he’s ideally suited for wing back vs a back four.
Huijsen seems the obvious pick at CB but that’s 50m and will have a lot of competition. If Heaven or Kukonki aren’t ready to step up, we’re going to need a big investment there.
I don’t see much value available at CM except for Fernandes at Southampton when they get relegated. Think we need two CMs and the other player needs to be an energetic fella. Ederson seems the obvious pick but wouldn’t be cheap.
Cunha seems the obvious choice for AM. Again, that’s another 60m. Would also take a flyer on Cherki. Talent is immense and he would be much cheaper.
Striker is going to cost striker money.
In sum, I think we’re kind of fecked unless we can pull off some good sales (Rashford first and foremost) and offload some players like Casemiro.
I think you’re right plus a goalkeeper that’s a huge 8 players in maybe 9!
If we are losing 4 attacking players we must get in at least
three?
Most fans will think you and I are insane for expecting or thinking this but here’s the thing;
1. When you finish outside the top 10 and probably in the bottom 6 you have to take drastic action.
2. We hired a specialist coach, unless we want more of the same next season we need to back him or sack him.
3. At least 4 players will leave on a free and maybe
5 more players must be sold.
4. Three attacking players are on loan, one should be sold, the other 2 hopefully.
5. At least one player from Academy either
Mainoo or
Garnaucho will be
Sold for £70m.
The truth is we either have a full cultural reset and back Amorim 100% or we Sack him after he inevitably falls short in FA CUP and Europa League. We’ve played the 3 or 4 in every season with a new coach. And it simply doesn’t work!
The reality of PSR will hit home next season without European Football but INEOS could sponsor the club with a new sleeve deal at a rate to bridge the Gap for one season especially in light of City’s recent win over the EPL, might be why Sir Jim wants to finish sponsoring Spurs.
Now the real issue of cash flow and liquidity, we have low cash reserves as shown in last 1/4 accounts of less than £100m (£95.5m). Yes we could fluke a EL win and everything changes but highly unlikely.
Let’s assume that they get the transfer window right in terms of departures and United sell the following;
1. Jadon Sancho (£25m). / £250k
2. Marcus Rashford (£40m) /£325k
3. Antony (£30m) /£200k
4. Casemiro(15m) /£350k
5. Garnaucho*(£65m) /£75k
6. A Bayinder (£10m) /£80k
7. D Gore (£5m)
8. H Amass(£8m)
9. J Hugill (£2m)
10 . E Williams(£5m)
11. Lindelof Free /£120k
12. J Evan’s Free / £65k
13. T Heaton Free /£45k
14. C Eriksen Free /£180k
15. Either J Zirkzee or R Hojlund £40m /90k
I’m not saying we should sell Garnaucho or any of the academy players but that’s the only way to finance this huge rebuild as they represent 100% profit. This would mean that the club received agreed transfer payments of £245m, with £125m academy sales representing pure 100% profit and helping the club to make a profit against PSR for that accounting year but more importantly also allowing us the capital to do a £300-400m rebuild.
All the Lower payments below £40m would probably be paid in one payment and the three larger transfers paid in 2 or 3 instalments.
The reality we may be able to generate £175/180m of actual cash and facilitate a huge rebuild of £350m which would be allowed under PSR rules.
I’m actually hoping that Wilcox/Vivell go for broke and do a hard reset 12/13 players out 8/9 in.
My Picks ;
Goalkeeper - James Trafford 6’5/6, 22 next England number 1 - Cost £30m wages £80k
He immediately puts Onana under pressure
Left Footed CB - Dean Huijsen(20) 6’5 or J Branthwaite(22) 6’5 - Cost £50m wages £120k
Creative BTB Midfielder - Ederson(24) 6’1 or M Hjulmand(25) 6’2 - Cost £50m wages £160k per week
Utility Midfielder- A Gomes(24) 5’7 Free wages £120k per week or D Costa(26) 5’9 loan and obligation 150k wages
Right Wing Back - G Quenda (18) 5’8 - Cost £44m wages 75k per week
Left Wing Back/LCB - Alvaro Fernandes(21) 6’2 £15m buy back wages 75k per week
Right 10/RWS - Tyler Dybling (19) 5’10 - Cost £40m wages £100k per week
L10/LWS - M Cunha (25) 6’0 - Cost £64m wages £200k per week
Number 9 - V Osimhen(26) 6’1 Cost £62m wages £280k per week or V Gyokeres (27) 6’2 cost £250k per week
I also think if we don’t see anything from Mason Mount in remainder of season, we must sell him for £20/25m and buy Chris Rigg or Jobe Bellingham for £40m. This is how a big well run club operates.
Summary ;
This looks almost impossible to achieve and maybe only half will happen but this type of open heart surgery is long overdue as the club is near the white light and the defibrillator is on its last chance of a revival.
Total Cost £355m outlay
New Wages £1.2m
Sales £245m incoming
Reduce wage £1.7m
Net Spend £110m however £500k or £26m per year would be saved in wages which means this type of complete reset pays for itself in 4 years!
If SPINEOS do half of what I’ve suggested then that’s a small success story and will help the club to rebuild in the right way on the pitch first with young hungry players.
