What do we still need? Aka The never ending story

People talking about scoring goals, we lost almost every second ball today. Van Hecke was dribbling though the middle of the park FFS! I love Ugarte and Mainoo but it was a wide open midfield today. It stems for a terrible press which then leads to massive overloads in the middle. The whole thing is a mess.
It has nothing to do with Ugarte or Mainoo and everything to do with the system and some of our struggles implementing it. No one made more tackles than Urgarte today while he was on the pitch and he's averaging 4 tackles per 90mins since he's arrived which is #1 in the premier league.

A 3-4-3 leaves space either side of the 2 CM's since they don't have a natural wide player to cover and Brighton clearly instructed their forwards to drop into these spaces and receive the ball. Yoro did a good job of stepping up which is why he was our #1 for interceptions.

Ultimately a 3-4-3 system relies heavily on the wing backs for both playing out of the back and creating chances but we none. Combine this with very average players like Maguire/Onana/Garnacho etc and you can see why we struggle.

If every player in this United team was performing their role to the same level Ugarte and Mainoo have been we'd be challenging for major titles.

Rashford, casemiro, garnacho, shaw, Eriksen and Antony need to move on for a tidy rebuild sum

Id really move on rashford with obligation to buy, get a few off the wage books and bring on two great wingbacks this window if possible

It's gone really quiet over Casemiro. I had big hopes of a move to Saudi, but it seems he too is quite happy to take the pay check and do nothing. Can't be pulling up any trees in training otherwise he'd be getting game time. I hope Amorin is trying to freeze him out in a push to get him to accept a transfer. Erikson won't leave as no one will pay his huge wage. We need to shift many players.

Eriksen is gone in the summer. His contract is up.

Big players who are athletes first, have a brain and don't shy away from skirmishes.

We are too meek and feels too brain dead to make up for it. Looks like every Tom Divk and Harry (obv not our Harry)will intimidate us and get away with it.. no scratch. Teams bully us every match and we always run to the ref to complain a la Bruno. No fight, no dog!

Keano would be so livid watching this lots.

Bunch of u18 kids squaring up with their seniors.

GK
LCB
LWB
RWB
CDM partner for Ugarte
10
Striker

It’s no wonder they’re having to bite the bullet and sell Garnacho to generate funds

In no particular order

GK - I’d drop Onana for the rest of the season

LWB - Carreras. Cheap. We’ve already lined up Leon for longer term.
CM - Gomes. Free
DM - Rúben Neves. We need to control the ball better.
ST - the Swedish lad from Sporting whose name I can’t spell

In an ideal world I’d have the money to add a Nico Williams or an Olise to give us pace and threat again

I think we have a lot of needs, and very little money to spend. The years under ETH where we spent loads and received little in return are coming home to roost, not just the ridiculous salaries but the inability to identify talent that will have a resale value. Add to that no Champions League football for the next year or two and I think we are going to be focussed on younger and cheaper. I think we go young for two WBs, a midfielder, and somehow find a striker over 30 that is on the cheap, and another player that is good value. I don't think the next year or two is going to be fun to watch results wise, but watching the players develop will be good to see.

I don’t think it will just be two years that will not be fun to watch. This could be an another 10 years before we are competing again.

We need two dynamic wingbacks with engines and who can gather long cross field balls and deliver to the forwards in behind the opposition defence at pace.

We need a central midfielder who has great technique and also some pace.

We need a striker who can press and run all game long but is also a deadly finisher.

My own picks would be any of:

Vanderson
Frimpong
Theo Hernandez

De Jong
Ederson
Reijnders

Gyokeres
Sesko
Osimhen

Been a big problem for a while now. We're very poor at the physical side of the game for a number of reasons, and unfortunately that's one of the strengths of a lot of sides in this league.

Maybe pairing Ugarte with Nico Dominguez from Forest for a double polivalent and very fesity mid, the team still needs some other playmaker with an opposite style of Bruno's, yet at least the team will certainly have some legs that speak the same language (literaly). I don't think Forest will ask too much for him, might end being a sensible transfer in terms of money, a sensible bet at the end of the day.
Yet I don't think they'll like to sell him right now given he is all over the pitch covering everyone doing the dirty job like teh enrgizer bunny.

A fecking striker! Loan one, steal one, just fecking get one!

For the Jan window, if we can get Dorgu and maybe someone like a Cherki, I think those would be smart acquisitions to make incremental if not massive improvements.

Then in the summer, we need a striker and a couple of midfielders. Also, need to keep an eye out for a goalkeeper.

If the reports about Cherki's character are true, we're better off not buying anyone
Agree last thing is we're want to replace players and inherit other issues. Just about clearing Rashford,Sancho, Lingard, Pogba clique out of the club finally.

Look at other big clubs like Bayern, City, even Madrid, you don't really see players amplified as much as ours,.as they realise the club is bigger than any of them. At United players think they rule the club and I am so glad Ruben has come and said 'not on my watch' and put them down a peg or two.

What I'd love to see this Jan.

Out:
Rashford - Loan/Perm
Antony - Loan (DONE)
Garnacho - Perm (€65-70m)
Casemiro - Loan/Perm

In:
LWB - Dorgu - €25m (rising to €30m with add-ons) - would prefer another LWB but he is the current target by the looks of it
AM - Lee Kang-In - €30m (rising to €35m with add-ons) - fee is a complete guess
CM/DM - Man Utd Silva - €15m - Wolves and Benfica currently battling it out for him, would give us a solid rotation option for Ugarte / Case replacement.

Would love to bring in a striker, but can't think of a good medium/long-term option that is available and I also think we could fix the team behind the striker first and then potentially go all-in for Gyokeres in the summer.

I just had a thought if we could bring in Angel Gomes for cheap (10m) since his contract ends soon. Of course it's better to wait until next summer, but we need someone to bring on instead of Eriksen or Casemiro and we lack funds, so why not? He's not the tallest but has better positional awareness than Mainoo and could rotate with him.

I don’t think he'd come back just because we asked. He is an established player now with a lot of clubs potentially in for him. He would expect to be starting most games. Would we be able to offer him that?

Maybe not that, but I think to play for his childhood club again and fight to get back to a better league position would definitely be an appeal, as he wouldn't get offers from any other English top clubs that would offer him a starting position either, imo. And it's up to him whether he goes to a low table EPL side to start 50 games or come to us as a challenger (I know, things don't look rn but you know what I mean).

In the end, we need 4-5 (if we include Bruno) competitive CMs for the 2 positions to rotate:
- Bruno (occasionally)
- Ugarte
- Mainoo
- Angel Gomes
- physical box to box (summer signing)

He's a good player, but objectively his best bet at a top club is as a rotational player imo (still would be a great addition if he accepts that role).

Buy: GK, 1 RWB, 1/2 LWB(s), 1 starting CM, 1 backup CM, 1 starting ST.

Sell/Release: Onana, Lindelof, Malacia, Shaw*, Casemiro, Eriksen, Antony, Garnacho, Rashford, Zirkzee.

We could get decent fee for Onana and buy new GK. Also if there is offer for Shaw, sell him and buy a younger LCB. Hopefully sell Antony and Malacia and get a new RWB. Sell Garnacho, Rashford and Zirkzee and get a new midfielder and a striker. Lindelof, Casemiro and Eriksen won't bring us any/much fee but will at least help the wage budget. I know some would rather sell Hojlund and keep Zirkzee but could be Zirkzee leaving for a team like Juventus.

When it comes to number 10 positions think it could be Bruno, Mainoo, Amad and Mount playing there so we may just go with that. If Mount keeps getting injured then obviously need to replace him.

Totally agree but about what we need, however shifting Shaw and finding takers for Onana and Rashford will be very awkward
