It's not even like Martial is an elite striker who can't be replaced. This isn't an R9 situation, where you have an all-time great who unfortunately can't stay fit.

Rashford doesnt compete for the same spot as Martial. They have actually shown that they work well together on the pitch. The whole narrative that Martial cant stand competition is dumb, he is just very injury prone.
Which makes it even weirder he's bottling it as soon as Rashford comes back, doesn't it.

Every other season he'll have a spell where he looks pretty good and stays fit, but each time that spell becomes slightly more brief. It started with nearly a full season, then it was half a season, then it was a couple of months. Now it's about 3 games. Next time it'll be for 15 minutes as a sub against QPR in the cup

I can't get over how he moves now? Can still make the odd good run, but on the ball, dare I say it, he's like Saudi Ronaldo? Has to be gone in the summer, he's not reliable and he's no good. I don't want him being around as an option, we need to move on.

Martial's "performances" have gone beyond self-mockery. He'll give you the one silky touch every 15 minutes but for the most part he walks around watching match float by him, occasionally elevating the walk to a jog before walking again.
Berbatov was rightly known for having a languid way about him, but he could go from first gear to fifth gear in an instant and fought for balls that were there to be won. Martial rarely ever goes into second gear, rarely ever makes runs, never gets stuck in and never gives a shit about what happens on the pitch.
8 years is long enough. Let him go on a free and if there are no takers then let him train with the club but keep him away from matchday squads. Much better to use valuable squad space on players like Elanga who don't have the silky skills Martial has but at least with perform as though badge means something.

Depressing that so many clubs have a better selection of centre forwards than us that they acquired from lower league clubs (Villa with Watkins; Brentford with Toney; Newcastle with Wilson for example). None of whom would be currently considered "world class" but all of whom would walk into our team and be a massive improvement on what we currently have.

I don’t trust Martial as first choice outside of this season and this season is basically on the basis that it’s him or Weghorst up top, I have no problem with Martial as back up to Kane or Osimhen though as when fit he’s a good squad option and fits the way ETH wants to play.
Martial has been with us since 2015, into his 8th season. He has to be judged on his history.

a back up needs to be reliable and fit, he’s neither. He’d be a terrible back up. He’s got no purpose once this season is done. His career here has been a joke that stopped being funny years ago.
Obviously we'd ideally sign a first choice striker and replace Martial with a more reliable second choice. Basically a poor man's version of what City did this summer, bringing in both Haaland and Alvarez while letting Jesus go.

I fully agree BUT no one is going to buy him and his contract runs until 2024 so my reasoning behind having no problem with him staying as back up is because he won’t be going anywhere and WHEN fit is a good squad option, if someone came in for him then I’d be happy with someone like Thuram on a free as back up to one of Kane or Osimhen but no one is coming in for Martial.
People trust him because his top level is incredible. We’ve all seen it, at times his hold up play, dribbling, movement and finishing have been scarily good. Everyone knows there’s a world class player in there, but you don’t get that tagline without the correct dedication and attitude and Martial just doesn’t have those, at all. It’s such a shame. I genuinely believe if he had a Ronaldo like approach to his game, he’d be one of the best strikers in the world.

And when was the last time we actually saw it? It's been literally years since he's done all 4 for more then the odd game or two. This version of Martial arguably only has one of them traits left but he's also now completely unreliable fitness wise too.
When you spend weeks watching Weghorst up top, Martial is a breath of fresh air. Then he flatters to deceive for weeks and you're reminded of his weaknesses.

What a waster! He jogs around as though He doesn't give a sh*t! If He played for us 20 years ago the Manager and the rest of the squad would want rid ASAP. Contributes nothing! Needs to go! He is going to look back at what could have been with a lot of regret when He retires. He could have contributed so much more. Needs to go now as He is a burden and has been for a few seasons
