What ‘affordable striker’ will we buy in January?

We need 1-2 wingbacks. Cause mazroui is our ONLY good wingback.

We need a box to box centre midfielder to pair up with Ugarte. Casemiro’s on his last legs. And we need to rotate mainoo.

We need a central striker who can actually hold on to the ball and also be very mobile. Actually Welbeck would kind of fit a 1 year stop gap while waiting for June transfer window.

I was very impressed by Samu when we played Porto, but then he has a £100m release clause supposedly, I think he has the profile to be exceptional in the Premier League, whether he would be that much to buy? I don't know

Maybe Josh Maja from West Brom, he would be very cheap and is a very good player, unless we are shopping in the Championship, or somewhere not one of the top leagues in Europe we are not going to get anyone proven and cheap, they will either be cheap and worth a gamble or relatively expensive

We have Wheatley, Hugill, Biancheri and Obi-Martin, maybe one of them will burst out

Porto are not selling him for less than the release clause because currently we only have 50%.

I don’t know if he is ready.
I think he is still a bit raw, technically he is not that good, he is a great target man, but he needs to improve in some areas.
He is only 20 so lot of time to improve of course, immense potential.

How is Ivan Toney getting on?

He might be willing to take a pay cut to get out of Saudi.

Jonathan David is going to be cheap with 6 months remaining on his contract. Karim Konate is another option bit of another gamble but is apparently available for £25 million. We probably need to be favouring a more experienced striker.

I cannot believe there are people on this thread saying bringing in a centre forward is "not a priority".

Our centre forward options are currently Hojlund and Zirkzee.

I'll repeat that again, our centre forward options are currently Hojlund and Zirkzee.

Do we want our team to score f**king goals or not?

I would be happy to gamble on David for a low fee. I’m not confident in him, though, to be honest.

I doubt we BUY anyone in January. I could see a short term loan (a Portuguese Weighorst?) to take us through to summer when we splash out on Gyokeres.

Having said that I wouldn't say no to a Welbz return in the short term, you just know that as soon as he re - signed for us he'd get crocked.

I’m sure every agent in the world will be in touch offering up frustrated clients on a 6 month loan. Someone like Muani from PSG most likely but not sure I’d bother.

My dream scenario is; lets see what Hojlund and Zirkzee can really do this season and what is their level. Then at the end of the season sell one and buy Isak or Osimhen.

Yeah, not happening but that would be my dream scenario. Osimhen or (especially) Isak would be amazing under Amorim.

A cheap striker is not what we need. We need to sell one and buy a proper proven striker in the summer, hopefully we can make it to the PL.

Looking at traditional lead the line target man strikers I have been reasonably impressed by Larsen at Wolves. He turns 25 in February and looks like he is on loan from Celta Vigo, so surely he could be got at a reasonable price.

He has lost his starting spot but I saw enough last season to be convinced of Rodrigo Muniz' quality. And, since he is not getting much gametime at Fulham right now maybe they would be willing to sell?

Liam Delap has also looked like a hard worker with a decent touch and ability to lead the line. He a big lad though already at 21 and looks to me like he could turn into a big lump, like Wout.

I don’t see how another average striker is on our priority list, just stick an u21 in if need be

I remember saying this the last time but I think French forward Etitike is one to keep an eye on.

Serhou Guirassy is still in incredible form and we could surely use him for a few years and would be relatively cheap. 9 goals and 4 assists in 13 games this year, 30 goals and 3 assists in 30 last year.

He is only 28 as well and doesn't overly rely on pace or played a ridiculous amount of games, FBREF profile here: https://fbref.com/en/players/923f4dda/Serhou-Guirassy

How much would this cost? We’ve spent 200 million in the season already. We can’t spend 200 more

None. We'll make do with Hojlund, Zirkzee and Rashford. Depending on how that goes we may or may not splash the cash in the summer.

Need to stop looking at cheap strikers, cheap strikers give you no goals.

Spend the money wisely on players and people that will give you results, and you won't regret it. The buys where we spunk alot of money on gambles are the ones that piss us off the most. E.g Antony.

He only moved to Dortmund in the summer, he's not going anywhere for cheap.

Will never understand the Zirkzee signing over a proven experienced striker, already happy to see him moved on in January

Welbeck... OMG. He's been a mediocre attacker even at young age, who needs him now? I guess in his best season he scored maybe 9 goals? Joke. Hojlund is good enough. He is fast, strong, has skills. We need wingers who can feed him. Zirkzee is a flop, so we should get rid of him, get a young talent to replace him and forget about Gyökeres and all these expensive options. We simply won't have the budget.

With the change in formation, Malacia’s and Shaw’s questionable fitness, wondering if priority should now be a LWB.

But speaking of strikers, surely Osimhen is the best value for money? Proven goal scorer for 50mn.

Welbeck is fine. Sadly, the time to get him was last summer, not in January.

Tbh do we really need another striker. I think Amorim can develop holjund the same way with gok. Maybe another striker for backup but I certainly think we shouldn’t be splashing out a lot of cash for that position.

We wont sign anyone unless its a loan, I think Hojlund will be given the chance to prove himself if he doesnt improve enough to establish himself in the starting XI we'll go for someone in the summer.

Zirkzee will definitely be out in the summer though, can't see how he fits Amorim's system. Doesnt have the killer instinct, aparently he's allergic to scoring and he doesnt have anywork rate at all. He doesnt check any of the boxes required for Amorim's system.

We 100% do, all teams have competition for attacking places. Fergie didn't look at Andy Cole, Sheringham and Solsjkaer and say we have enough, when quality was available he bought (York). Same with Veron, even though that failed.

Top Teams keep doing that, Real Madrid do that regularly, they want to up their levels. City also to an extent.

Anyone think we are bringing another striker in January is dreaming.
