It’ll be interesting to see what the pound is worth come the new year. Down to $1.15 US and the economic outlook for the UK is fairly disastrous.

I think polls of this sort regularly show this kind of support in favour of public ownership. Unfortunately it doesn't translate to a Labour win at elections.
Why would it translate to a Labour win at the next GE anyway when Starmer has come out against nationalisation of utilities?

Well I don't suppose it would with Starmer but even when there is a Labour leader in favour of nationalisation - Corbyn, Miliband - it doesn't seem to help them much.

Coming from an Australian perspective, our Labor leader played the "tory-light" card to victory. In government Labor has been more Labor than tory which has been a relief. The concern I have for Starmer is that whilst he seems to be copying that successfully, you have so many issues that are magnitudes worse than Australia.

He's got to come out hard on certain issues and then play the "steady hand" on other issues. He's got to take bold positions on a range of topics to show they have ideas and just to create some seperation.

What crisis.

This fecking ballbag has really been pissing me off today. After finally stopping the farewell tour of random holiday destinations and foreign countries that need a good Churchillian talking to, he comes back and tells us he's this brilliant idea to solve the energy crisis - more carbon intensive nuclear plant construction that will come online in 50 years. Just feck off you ignorant cnut, I hope you get gangrene in your cock.

Him and his mate Trump are victims of a "witch hunt" dont you know!
"Ministers will never be able to say anything if they think they can be found in contempt by accidentally giving the wrong answer."
This annoyed me so much earlier when I read it. That fecking lying cnut trying to weasel out of any accountability for his actions, claiming it will limit ministers to speak freely is such a crock of shit. How you can compare him lying about parties going on his house with the dangers not being freely able to discuss policy etc... is beyond me. Surely even if the simplest, most partisan moron wouldn't genuinely fall for this nonsense.

He has set the country back 30 years.
But hes loaded so all good.

Labour way ahead in all the polls at the minute.

I just don't see how Liz Truss wins an election, she has all the same terrible qualities Johnson has without the buffoonish charm he had that appealed to people for some reason. She's going to be a disaster even by Tory standards.

I don't think we'll see an election until the last possible moment, January 2025.

I don't know. She is the party member's choice, not the MP's. She's going to start off with more enemies in parliament, on her own side, than anyone has before. And I'm confident she'll make some colossal cock-ups very early on, so half those MPs willing to give her the benefit of the doubt will turn as well. Those in safe seats will expect her to lose the next election and be kicked out, so they'll distance themselves from her failure, and those in marginal seats will be truly desperate to change the course of events and save their own skins. She could call an earlier general election just as a gamble hoping to win and consolidate her position. If she doesn't her backbenchers might demand yet another leadership election. I'm fecked if I know what'll happen, it's all too complicated for me.

Oh I hope I'm wrong, the sooner an election the better.

We need these Tories out as soon as possible.

I just think they'll know that as time goes on an election win for them will be harder and harder to pull off so they'll just do what John Major did in 1997 and delay the inevitable.

PoliticsJoe are such clickbait merchants. Most of these points are (surprisingly) reasonable, except for the things said at the start by the guy in the tie and even he goes on to say he supports nationalisation.

If anything it made me feel like Tory voters aren't as dimwitted as I thought :nervous:

Yeah, it started off like an obvious Daily Show piece of looking for the idiots but they didn't all seem unreasonable. Like the guy that said "don't get into big debt" clearly was going to say something after the guy said "easier said than done". My assumption based on the way they cut it was he agreed

If Truss fecks things up and doesn't seriously address the cost of living crisis, then imo they'll be another leadership election before the next GE

If she doesnt do SOMETHING about it a GE will be the least of her worries, when people are struggling for food and warmth on a national scale there will be riots protests and all sorts of civil unrest. We as a nation put up with a hell of a lot, but even we have our breaking point.

I agree, no election until there absolutely has to be one.
On a side note, I remember well the Right Wing press kicking up a huge fuss when Brown became Prime Minister, saying he was unelected and that nobody had voted for him. Fecking quiet on this run off between the Turd Sandwich and the Giant Douche aren't they?
