Westminster Politics

I think you're a bit too swarthy though. :)

I’ve been checked against the scale, I’m safe.

Whiff of Cummings about this story...

Are Boris Johnson’s PR People Manipulating Google Search?
With so many people getting their news from what Google shows in search results, playing the system is a necessary tactic.

Anyone remember the ‘Boris bus’? The pledge plastered across a red London bus to give £350 million to the NHS after the UK leaves the European Union? Here’s a reminder:

For a long time, when you searched for ‘boris bus’ in Google you’d see many references to this Brexit campaign promise. So many references, in fact, that it became a bit of an embarassment for Boris Johnson, as so far it has seemed to be a rather empty promise.

Hence why, in a June 2019 interview, Boris Johnson’s admission that he likes to ‘paint buses’ as a hobby raised some suspicion – primarily because it seemed to be a carefully crafted proclamation designed to game Google’s news algorithms.

It did seem to have the intended effect, initially, when the ‘boris bus’ search result changed to show the interview’s statement rather than the big red Brexit campaign bus......

For a 4-day closure? No way.

Dont think she can? Is the timing of this anywhere near legitimate? Or at least when we would expect it to happen regardless of brexit timings?

If not, then it's a shocker.

Why does Prorogation have to happen at such an critical time? We managed without it for long enough. The EU are scrutinising Boris’s proposals, 4 weeks from the date, and....nows the time to not have to answer any questions?!

That's what it looks like. After the court ruling against it too!

But, I'm curious as to when this process would be expected to happen? How often is it done and over the last 10 years when has it taken place?

It's fair to say that a new session of parliament is overdue. But it is not required. And could easily wait until there wasn't a massive issue to be dealt with and a looming deadline.

The courts could, I guess, rule against the tories again on the grounds that the effect of the prorogation is that parliament is stymied. Though I have no idea if they would, as the timescale is more reasonable. Even if it has been done for nothing other than to gain political advantage.

Home Secretary doing anti semitic dog whistling on tv. But at least the media will hold her accountable

"I'm going to take away the things I got the advantage of so other people can't get it"

Yup, sounds like a Tory to me.

Yeah but let's not pretend that the Tory Part Conference isn't also a timely stalling tactic as well. He's trying everything he can to stop the entirety of Parliament sitting because he knows the Remain lot still need some Tories to support any motions they try to out through.

With the tories I want to think that there is certain class forces at play, different parts of British capitalism fighting against other. The real world effects of a nostalgia for the British empire and the outcome of government/party which is in crisis due to a dying membership and voter base.

But actually.......... I just think Patel was once forced to share her toys as a kid and now she wants to kick everyone out of the country.

I see Javid has hinted at getting rid of Inheritance Tax.

Gotta look after the little guy.

The ability to live and work in any European country was one of the main reasons I wanted to become a British citizen. Looking at it from the outside, it is such an incredible gift to be able to do that. Patel is a cnut.
How can someone be so inward-looking to think ending it is a good thing?

It could be that giving free movement to mostly rich white people, whilst denying it to mostly poor darker skinned people is someone outrageous.

Not speaking about Patel specifically of course.

Still waiting on The Saj's inquiry into islamophobia...

Still waiting on The Saj's inquiry into islamophobia...
He has no personal motive since he is not a Muslim. And he knows he will be put into a very difficult personal position because of that.

Tory’s present him and Patel as ‘diverse’ members when in reality they are nothing of the sort.

Tories have done well to get in their conference and also a Queens speech in before October 31st and soon to be election:

Would have got all their ducks in a row and gained some traction with grass roots.

Opposition need to be very smart in somehow destabilising this energetic momentum.

I particularly despise Javid and Patel. Willing masks for a bunch of cnuts.

I’m really glad I’ve left UK when I left, becoming a really ugly and hostile environment to reside in if you’re from the EU or coming from any other country for that matter. Floodgates have been well and truly opened.

They both have been admitted though haven't they. They hold two of the most powerful positions in the country.

I also find that line of thinking a bit hypocritical. Saj and Patel aren't just an immigrant-friendly mask for the establishment. They aren't hollow and without power. They are the establishment.

The tories have hit republican level of delusion. Do they think anyone outside of their ranks believes this never ending avalanche of bs? Do they not realize they are trashing the UK's reputation and influence?
