Westminster Politics

The Home Secretary calling another person elite is quite something.

Diane abbot standing in for Corbyn at pmq's apparently... Bit of a message that thornberry is persona non Grata for wanting to remain in the EU...
She's up against raab...
I have a feeling pmq's is about to reach new lows

The way Priti Patel smiles in that sinister way during her speech is creepy. I can't believe she's been advised that that's a good thing to do.

Priti Patel is a walking paradox. A North London Elite, who hates The North London Elites, a staunch supporter of the right wing Israeli Government, whilst also bowing to Anti-Semetic tropes. A person born to foreign parents, who wants to stop foreign people coming to Britain. She's maybe the most odious out of all of Johnsons' cabinet.

And she constantly looks like she's seeking approval. Says something, nods to herself in agreement and then totally lights up once someone starts clapping.

Reminds me of a school girl really proud that she just learned to read and gets to do so in front of class. Then again I do get why tories would like that...

Could she not have said something like "limiting the unsustainable levels of immigration" or something? Like I don't agree with her no matter the wording but surely there's a way of coming across as more human.

The only difference between you and those gammon blokes who call LBC is your position on the EU. Was this just blind luck ?

Even during this entire shitstorm it's one of the oddest speeches I've seen.

"We will finally end freedom of movement..." Because freedom and movement are notoriously awful things.

Indeed. If she wants to dog whistle to her far right audience then there are much more obvious ways of making it sound like a win.

And as for the North London metropolitan liberal elite comment, wow. Surely she's just taking the piss now?

Priti Patel was born on 29 March 1972 to Sushil and Anjana Patel, in the London Borough of Islington,[7] while her parents were resident in Harrow.[8]

Your missing the point that these lines are fed to them largely by Cummings team. It's just to create a very obvious targeted brexit related victory line.

The entire conference has come across very weird. Nearly every speech is just spouting general election lines usually an attack on Labour rather than any actual policy

They haven't got any right ? Ok they might throw some funds at certain towns in the hope to win them over in next election but really this is the only Cummings and the tories have. Which isn't completely nothing as there is a purely anti socialist vote out there(Middle class old white men)but its really not much.

Worth saying Diane Abbott is now the first black person to represent her party at PMQ's in British history.

The tories always make Corbyn seem so much cooler than he actually is.

We put up wages – with the biggest expansion of the living wage for a generation; Corbyn would put up taxes for everyone.

We back our superb armed forces around the world; Corbyn has said he wants them disbanded.

We want an Australian-style points based system for immigration; Corbyn says he doesn’t even believe in immigration controls.

If Jeremy Corbyn were allowed into Downing Street, he would whack up your taxes, he would foul up the economy, he would rip up the alliance between Britain and the USA, and he would break up the UK.

We cannot allow it to happen

From BJ's speech...

He says the government will crack down on county lines drug gangs who are preying on vulnerable young kids and "sending them to die in the streets to feed the cocaine habits of the bourgeoisie".

Is he sacking Michael Gove then? The nerve of this lot.

The ability to live and work in any European country was one of the main reasons I wanted to become a British citizen. Looking at it from the outside, it is such an incredible gift to be able to do that. Patel is a cnut.
How can someone be so inward-looking to think ending it is a good thing?

my dislike of the position and direction of the current Tory party is sadly only equalled by my dislike of the current state of labour and the Lib Dem’s.

Literally not one moderate or reasonable party to align with nowadays.

I watch Boris and JRM and cringe and then watch John McDonell and JC and whince at the thought of what they’d do if in power.

Who would you prefer led either party?

I'd bet heavily on a propagation next week, probably for the whole week.

if they were serious about negotiating a deal then that would be locical so that they had no westminister distractions in the run up to the EU summit...
that said if you were determined to try and avoid asking for an extension then perhaps waiting a week would be more logical

Will the queen even grant it though - if i were her Id bugger off on holiday and turn the mobile off and stay well out of it
