West Indies vs England - Tests and One Day Series

Last over - Monty to bowl? Get into them! Throw one into their ribs! feck them up!

England still only 20/1 despite needing 2 wickets in the last over. Crazy!

Where abouts in Bradford you from Rooney1987?

I was up in Ilkley a few weeks ago, up the cow and calf!

Well that was draining, and gutting in the context of a few hours back. *sigh*

Questions surrounding the declaration perhaps, although this is not as controversial as Antigua by any means i don't think. Still hope Strauss has learned a few things.

Swann and Anderson stand out from the attack although good signs from Broad and Monty on his return too.

And is it that England are touring the world to produce high emotion fifth days to test matches to boost the game for others around the world? lol Albeit never on the right end of a result mind.

Could very well make for the revival of West Indies cricket this result, which all would welcome. They really showed some resilience throughout the series.

The referral system remains quite in doubt, and the pitches were more often than not crap though. ;)

Strauss sounds shattered/deflated, pretty tetchy as well. To be expected.

Gower's pressing the point on the timing of declarations post-match.

We lost against the weekest test side, fecking depressing to be honest. We are going to get thrashed big time again in the Ashes.

Lets hope we learn from this and win the ashes. Australia are not the side they were a few years back!

As for this test match, I feel gutted tbh. Those blaming strauss for not declaring earlier are stupid.

There is no better team losing when its engand :D :D :D

Actually I lied, when India lose its much more fun.

It's well and truly alive and kicking now, Gayle's still lurking it has to be said.

I do hope Brad's not opted to watch the football tonight, this might cheer his mood.

Hehe, my TV and internet were down so I was able to watch nothing

Sounds like a good final day effort from England. Sensationally begs the question why they couldn't have played like that the whole series?

England should not be losing a series like this. Even though the Windies played very well, and the pitches were dire, we still threw it away ourselves. The Aussies will destroy us in the summer if we don't sort that out

I suppose that BBC Radio 4 LW doesn't reach you where you are as well lol, shut out on all fronts. Shame, could've been a uite retro cricketing experience.

And yes, there was certainly an increased level of intensity to our bowling/fielding, Boycott said that Anderson put in his best performance ever when touring with England overseas. Admittedly this all came on the day that the pitch actually started to be partially friendly to the attack.

What do we do about Monty though? Is it like the Rooney argument whereby if you take the passion and emotion out of the player then you lessen their ability? For it was evident yesterday that the umpires were tiring of this exuberant appealing, the boy who cried wolf scenario at times as more worthy appeals for LBW were rejected.

We do too need to get our act together in time for the Ashes, they've made progress in South Africa whereas...well we have not in the same tangible way. We're missing a special something in our attack which we could well do with finding.

Why do you treat everything as a warm-up to the Ashes?

Anyone here interested in taking part in a mini league at cricketweb.net for the ODIs?

Admittedly it's a tad more limited than the World Cup which was the last one i took part in but thought i'd put the request out there on the back of Steev's earlier post.

What do you reckon, half a dozen to make it viable? Twenty20 this weekend beforehand of course.

Starts at 11:30PM for me.. gotta wake up at 6:30 for uni tomorrow, so I'll catch a bit of the first innings..

I think Windies are gonna win this.

I can't believe just for a bit of consistency Strauss has been named captain in all forms. He'll be useless in ODIs, more so in T20s..

England bat first...

If they put up a decent enough score and get Gayle and Sarwan out early, they should win comfortably.

Gayle won't play. He was injured during the last test.

Despite creating Twenty20 we've still not got the hang of it on an international level. Looked decidedly uncomfortable from the off, tense.

KP did fall victim to a pretty wretched LBW decision though.

We were convincing in the ODI warm-up match yesterday apparently, not much help now mind.

Beaten by six wickets in the end.

Next stop Guyana

Does not what we just saw exemplify the error if cricket goes too far in the direction of Twenty20, you can end up with matches that are pretty much foregone conclusions from ages out.

As for England, i wonder at times if we'd be better off going with a totally specialist side made up from players from the county scene, those who actually have experienced it most of all.

This is the best suggestion, doubt we'll do it though. We are well over due a win now.

I've decided that cricket is anti-sport. Or rather, English national team cricket is

Simon Barnes summed it up in his column today: "Think of it: another 5-0 Ashes defeat. I don't think anyone who was present in Adelaide in December 2006 - anyone English, anyway - will ever see sport in quite the same way again. England were in an unbeatable position - and they were beaten, not because they were outplayed, but because their collective nerve failed catastrophically" (The Times Website)

Now I wasn't present, but I did alter my lifestyle so I could watch virtually every session of the whole tour in its entirity. And he's spot on, it's forever damaged how I view English cricket. I can't view it in anything other the most deeply pessimistic terms anymore. Now I was brought up on England being crap at the game, and that was fine, I could cope with that. Something about that tour in Australia was the final straw though

Also worth saying, thanks to the farce that was the last World Cup, I've lost all desire for one day cricket too. I liked the novelty of Twenty20, but even that's worn off now. I didn't even know England had played until I opened this thread just now, and I still don't care. Anti-sport

That's bullshit, Nick

T20 is the only format that can change in the instance of a few balls. If it's conclusion is known from ages out, you're horribly rubbish at it.
