West Indies vs England - Tests and One Day Series

I don't know why, but i think one of them will actually win this one.

Well if the West Indies don't engage in a nigh on complete reversal in approach, it won't be them.

m hoping i don't jinx matters here but Strauss and Collingwood have during this series found their form again [Strauss most of all with a third ton in succession today] and they in such circumstances represent a formidable challenge to any side.

Shah's hand is alright again apparently and will be next in whenever that is.

Is there a reason, on the first day of a test we have to win to get anything out of the series, we've scored at a rate of less than 2.9 runs per over, for the loss of 2 wickets? It's a good position, only 2 down for that many runs of course, but for fecks sake, surely we could have batted a bit more positively?

Am I also right in believing we just dropped a batsman who made a century the previous test?! I understand and like the theory of bringing in a 5th bowler - we've taken 20 wickets ONCE in the last ten matches apparently - but surely someone else could drop out other than a century maker for crying out loud?! Shah has been treated pretty shoddy, but he made 28 combined the last test, surely he would drop out in this instance ahead?

I might sound like the most depressing soul on the planet, but the English cricket team have driven me to this position!

We've lost two quick wickets, Strauss out for 142 after one sneaked through somehow, Shah was run out although i wasn't following it at the time, anyone here watching/listening?

A fair bit of pressure on Collingwood and Prior now, need them to see us to 330-350 or thereabouts you'd reckon.

Gayle did his best to throttle the life out of an already slow pitch yesterday, Strauss and Collingwood were getting runs at a decent enough pace all things considered. Cook went early and then Shah took some time even to get off the mark even, scratching around to find his place as he is. And then KP went of only his second ball, he who might've provided a little more impetus.

Combination of factors.

I can see why they went for Shah but it wouldn't have been a clear cut decision by any means, not with form taken into account. But it is past now.

That was plain stupidity. Anyway the pitch should do alot more today, so the worst result from this match will be a draw and if our bowlers can get at them we should win. Cricket really does bring out the pessimist in you doesn't it?

I dont understand this whole debate about appealing.

If the umpire actually gave one of the 3 that were out yesterday, the players not feel the need to appeal so hard.

Cricket. 5 days for a draw. FS.

Interesting, yes there's a big hole in the appeal process thing at the moment, technically you can almost wipe out the wrong decisions of the umpire giving a player out, but not his decisions not to give a player out when he is. Mind you if you broadened the process any further, what would be the point of having an umpire standing there?!

Would appear the decision to not enforce the follow on in test two (three?) has earned us a series defeat, rather than the draw it should be, and in truth both teams have played well enough to earn

Bloody deflating this, granted the West Indies are desperate for the series win but talk about sucking the life out of the game.

The absence of a fit and inform Freddie, Sidebottom and Harmison if he returns to favour can't be totally ignored here, although at the same time neither the former nor the latter can be viewed as long term fixtures in the test side.

Tiffin's been

What do we make of Khan, i think "raw" would be an apt description, not that he is without threat by any means. Much discussion about this action and the illusion of illegality.

Panesar's definitely improved however the excessive appealing is still a factor as was mentioned above.

EDIT: Oh and we're about to about break the record for the most extras in an innings.

Collingwood's made up for yesterday and got the wicket of Nash but thanks to a referral Chanderpaul just escaped following him soon afterward, possibly the right call but others haven't gone out way too and wrongly so.

Moreover to overturn the decision wasn't in keeping with the spirit of how the system is supposed to work.

Fantastic first session so far.

Nutty, risky batting by Pietersen, but it was fun to watch. Only he's got the power and skill to pull that off in today's cricket.

England look like they're going to declare soon. Interesting fifth day.

England declared.

I think 30 runs short. Windies going to take their time and win easily, IMO.

It was indeed, top drawer.

Not exactly sporting the West Indies attempted use of the referral but hey.

The gun's not even been loaded yet and you're jumping. :) Jinx potential too. lol

I have to be right sooner or later. Last day I think we can beat them. They won't make that total, not a hope. Their big performers are due a bad innings:D

Oh yeah nick, how's the campaign for the pavilion going? Ignore marching and ask another mod.

He's not the only one unfortunately.

And none of the other half dozen or so similar such threads ever achieved restoration. Might ask again closer to the time but barring that we'll have to properly annex Other Sport instead.

Guess that will have to do then. We need a few more cricket fans on the cafe. Sad state of affairs really when only us handful seem to still love the sport:(

feck me, England look like they're going to pull it off.

Probably a draw with a wicket remaining in the end.

I set up a fantasy cricket league (county championship) last summer but only attracted 6 people (1 of which was me and 2 others who I don't think were from the caf)!

I'll do it again this year if anyone's interested. We need more people though to make it competitive.

It's well and truly alive and kicking now, Gayle's still lurking it has to be said.

I do hope Brad's not opted to watch the football tonight, this might cheer his mood.

I put £20 on this when it was 20/1.

Hurry up! Come on England.

Cricket eh.

5 days for a team desperately defending a draw.

In other news, this umpire is cack.
