Wesley Sneijder

With Neville, Scholes, VDS and Haggis all retired, plus major boosts to the commercial income stream, I believe we've room there for one or two top wage assets.

Fair point, all 4 of them must of been slightly high earners and would easily cover the wages for Sneijder... you just never know how far we're willing to go to "break the bank" which makes me question if we will actually be after him!

I don't like the phrase "break the bank". United signing Wesley Sneijder certainly wouldn't break our bank; a £200k weekly wage would need to be offset by three or four commercial partners, the FFP regs. alone would dictate that. The question is, can City afford such wages now that they're in place for regular CL qualification and still a million miles away from FFP compliance? I'm not so sure.

Not that we should be held to ransom but with VDS, Scholes and Nev retiring, plus Hargreaves being let go, then that's some of the wage bill cleared right there.

Sneijder would be an excellent signing.

Anything over £150K a week I would ordinarily call madness but that's just the way football has gone post recession.

i don't know how much exactly rooney is earning at the moment, but we should at least offer snejder around that kind of amount to get him here..

van der sar, gaz, hargo and scholes leaving means that we save at least £300k to £350K a week..so there is some spare money there in the wage budget...

If the Glazers want United to compete and win at teh very top level, players like Sneijder, and his wage demands, are what they are going to have to sanction moves for. They haven't had to do it yet because we have already had the world class players at the club - or players close enough to that level. As we lose Scholes, Giggs soon enough, and having lost Ronaldo, the talent required of the replacements is higher.

Dutch journo Marcel van der Kraan on Talksport says Sneijder 'really really keen' on move to Manchester, ideally United.

Van der Kraan says Sneijder fancies replacing Scholes but adds that wages may be stumbling block - expected £175k pw minimum.

Keep up Steve.

Before my cock comes out who is Van der Kraan, Sneijders agent? Or just Talk Sports own journalist in Holland the equivelent of Gullible Balague in Spain?

He's 'talkSPORT's Dutch football expert'... so yeah, the latter!

If it was his agent then I think we'd all be getting a little over excited with our cocks out right now!

True, although I don't believe what some agents say, Kia Joor-whatever for example.

So he's basically a journo based in Holland saying stuff about a player based in Italy. Fair enough. I hope it's true but I've heard many journos say many things such as Ronaldo to City. Unless this guy speaks to Wesley often.

Yep it seems that way, seems like he's trying to come across as the ITK for all Dutch footballers

I wouldn't believe most of what the journos say these days unless it's a direct quote from the club, half of them just go out on a whim & hope for the best that it might actually be true.

Forget it, we could afford it, but we're going to pay it. We give Sneijder £200,000 p/w then two weeks later we have Vidic knocking on the door asking for parity.

Has he done so when Rooney got a new contract?

It would be pretty sad if we failed to bring in a player who could take the team up a notch or two when we can afford to, because we fear other players will also want the same money.

I remember when Fergie was battling the board for extra cash for players, years ago in the days we have a ceiling of around 25k, he said that for those sort of rare talents who can take us to a new level you have to pay more and that 'talent is not a democracy' (or something like that).

We don't know what he's demanding, we also don't know what we're offering. Funnily enough there's something inbetween those two figures somewhere, it's not pay £200k p/w or nothing.

would love him to be at united. my number one target. wanted him for dogs years. turns 27 in 3 days time. would give us enough years to become a legend hear if he came.

however, I'm resigned to the fact that 1. fergie isn't that keen on him or 2. we won't pay his wages. or 3. he's too old and we're all about 'sell on value' after the berba-mess.

if we are offering inter around £30million to get sneijder surely we can offer him 200k a week...just saying...

Not as simple as being able to afford it - unlike transfer fees, players can get jealous of each others wage packets, and demand more themselves as a result.

we have a wage structure
If our most marketable asset says he wants to leave 10 days before the transfer window closes and then plays it out in the media midway through the season, we dont have much choice but to bend over a bit and give him the money he wants.

Cant see us adding a player knowing he will be on silly wages. We cant make this a norm.

He isnt worth that much. A messi/ronaldo or someone THAT good.. sure.
Not Sneijder

i agree about spending that kind of money on the effect on our wage structure

didn't we break it though with rooney earlier this season - isn't he ok 200k plus

the outlay of 30 million as well as 200k a week over say 5 years is astronomical - this fro a player with no resale value

we'd be better spunking that kind of money on a younger player

we should have get ozil when we had the chance

Why do we, as fans, give a flying shite about resale value?

If he's the player SAF thinks is the answer for our midfield then we're going to have to stump up high wages, that's the way of the world now.

And what makes you think we 'had the chance' to sign Ozil?

true.

but rooney is already on 200K a week (around that amount) and i'm sure the big names such as vidic, rio etc are already on 100k plus a week. another player joining rooney as our top earner is not going to change the scenario very much..

whether snejider or any other top player is joining us or not, our players are always going to ask for more money these days..

Exactly!

Sneijder is the type of midfielder we're crying out for, if all these reports are true then we should definately go for it.

 Yes he is. I'd pay him higher wages than Rooney any day of the week.

This.

Tempora mutantur, nos et mutamur in illis

or, Times change, and we change with them.

The fact that we bent over and caved in to massive wage demands for Rooney shows that we are willing where necessary.

Give him what he wants. Surely this is the one transfer we can all agree on?

I'm not sure until someone can convince me he's the dogs bollocks in a midfield two.

Wouldn't he and Rooney be in each others way?

I don't think so. Anyway, the amount of beautiful through balls and long passes coupled with set piece delivery he would provide would more than make up for any occasional colliding.
