Wesley Sneijder

Me? I am not on a wind up, I simply do not rate Sneijder as a world class player, and I would be disappointed if we spent a huge amount to sign him.

Okay, perhaps I was too adamant in stating that Fergie would be wrong to sign him, but I firmly believe that Sneijder is not his preferred option. Modrić would be the ideal signing for our system of play, and Fergie has stated that he was the best player in the Premier League last season. Sadly, he looks to be impossible to sign at this point in time.

Modric.

You all should really stop specalutation about Fergie's comments - it makes your life easier

That's the thing about Fergie's comments. Depending on where your heart is on the matter, you can infer either side. On one side you've got the "Forget it" in regards to Sneijder - seemingly unequivocal. But, then right away saying it's not very easy when it comes to him - seeming to suggest we'd go for him but, there are things preventing it from happening.

Same thing happened with last weeks comments. People can interpret his comments to suit their PoV on the matter. Which is what makes him the master - he's so ambiguous in his statements that you don't know what the real truth is.

The annoying thing is, he's not wrong. I'm fairly sure Fergie would prefer to sign modric, given the choice.

One thing that has gone un-noticed is that Sunday Times reported that we're just waiting for Chelsea to show their hand and then we'll bid for Modric.

We probably ditched the interest ages ago, if there ever was any.

People are only hopeful on Sneijder because they spend so much time in this particular thread (it's where the transfer talk seems to be centred at the moment) and become consumed by half-quotes and comments that get bounced around on a more frequent basis than the other threads. If we were all hanging around in the Nasri thread we'd probably be more hopeful on that one and would forget about Sneijder for a while

They are hopeful because Fergie pretty much closed the door on Nasri the first time he talked about him, and that was that. Since then he's already talked three times about Sneijder, faling to do the same and talking up our need in midfield.

Don't see why his thread keeps popping up. "Forget it" is somehow not clear enough for certain people.

Well, good luck with that.

My advice: no Modric, Sneijder or Nasri, so fall back to Plan D quickly ... before it becomes Plan E.

It will continue to pop up until either we buy a midfielder or sneijder moves to another club or else gibson stays.

We are just going to have to use that 2010/2011 league winning midfield, with the tidy addition of Ashley Young. How will we cope?

 On it's own I doubt that would be enough...I'd wager there'd be even more activity in this thread

Looks like Sir Alex will indeed play a wait game just as he done in Berba's case.

Latest stage of the transfer window.

On Sneijder: #MUFC quoted 45meuros when enquiry made 6 days ago. No bid was made as they know Inter want to sell.

Inter want Sneijder to request a transfer and therefore forfeit compensation on his 7m per year salary if he is sold.

#MUFC strategy is to wait until Inter come to the table with a realistic valuation and an agreement with Sneijder on terms of departure.

BBC journalist, probably reliable.

Why posters think we need any of Sneijder, Nasri or Modric to be successful next season is lost on me...

Im usually quite negative when it comes to these things, but Fergie's comments today are actually quite encouraging.

But as many have predicted, it will run and run. This could well be a deadline day deal

I don't know if any of that is true but it does make sense. Like he said, Inter want to sell and he is at the prime age to sell. Inter are probably desperately trying to get a club like Chelsea or Man City involved because if United are doing this and they are trying to let the end of the transfer window creep up and force Inter's hand... then a (relatively) cut price isn't out of the question.

You don't think we need a midfielder or just not one of those three?

We won the league and reached CL semis without Scholes making a significant impact on our season.

Cant believe we got knocked out by bloody Schalke... we'd have had Barcelona this time as well, I know it.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm slightly put off by his wage demands. 250k? feck right off you greedy twat. If that's hindering him then he should stay put. If he wants to move, then we should offer about 100k which is still a fecking ridiculous amount of money. If he turns that down then he can stay at Inter and underachieve.

While I agree that it's a shitload of money and way to much I do understand the difficulty of giving it up. He'll be making a whole lot less if he comes to United. 150k per week sounds about right and with more tax in England can anyone really blame him for thinking about it twice? It's not like he's having a shit time at the club, he seems to be pretty happy.

And underachieving? He plays for one of the biggest clubs in the world, I for one don't agree that staying would mean that he's any less of a player. Just read the Berba thread and he supposedly too good for Italy... madness.

Hope he comes though, but it might just be too difficult, sadly. Inter most likely want to sell, as they always do with their best players. However they will have to decrease the asking price and then United and Sneijder need to work out the wage demands, difficult task.

What I'm trying to say is, that if he comes here I don't want his decision to be fueled on his wages.
I want players like Hernandez, he appreciates the club and how lucky he is. Wages aren't an issue to him because he appreciates he's getting so much as it is. (at least it seems that way)
Maybe I'm hoping for players that don't exist. I would say I'm old fashioned, but I'm only a student!
Look at City, full of ego's and individuals. Each big name is their because of the money, any other such reason is bollocks. I don't want us to become like them. We're nowhere near that right now, however if Sneijder forces a huge wage packet of 200k+ and joins us, then I'm not sure how I'll feel.

I agree, the comment about Inter was a little harsh. Although Inter had a poor season last year, the year before was another story, but they also had Jose.
