Television We didn't all go to Gudger College

 I love this line.

Does anyone else listen to the commentary from the producers and stuff on the DVDs? I haven't watched my DVDs of The Simpsons in a long time but, whenever I did, I'd binge seasons 2-10 and watch each episode twice. Once normally, then with the commentary.

Yeah. I go through phases but recently I've mostly listened to the commentary.

I love commentaries anyway but the Simpsons ones are especially fun. You can just sense how much fun they had doing their jobs on the show and it shows in the quality of each ep.

Had the pleasure of meeting Josh Weinstein when I graduated from Salford Uni earlier this year.

Simpsons' Golden Era (2-8, 1-9 if we're being generous) is my favourite show, probably up there with the greatest artistic works of the 20th century. I'm currently reading Planet Simpson actually, to understand just how important it became.

A super show.

Agreed. It felt like I had discovered the show again in a way when I discovered the commentaries.

I haven't heard many other commentaries but the ones for Arrested Development are pretty good.

I've recently started going back and watching some of the old episodes. It's so good. Just the existence of the modern stuff made me lose interest in the classic era, but I remember how much I love it now.

I not only listen to commentaries from the people who work on said shows, I love listening to fan ones, too. I'm also a fan of "Let's Plays" which are similar.

One of my favourite commentaries was a fan one of Dragonball Evolution by a group called BrainScratchComms. Being a huge Dragon Ball fan, I hate that film and the only time I've ever seen it is was from their commentary. Still makes me laugh to this day.
Homer: "I am so smart!" "I am so smart!" "S M R T, I mean S M A R T!"
I love that quote! I used to hear it a lot when I first got Simpsons Hit and Run for the PS2. :D

81.

Main ones I forgot: Otto, Snake and Cpt McCallister.

There's lots of ones that don't count, like Hank Scorpio, Frank Grimes, Rex Banner, Mr Teeney, that it just keeps adding on to the end, but doesn't count towards your score. BOO-URNS!

Basically a quiz where you name the top (most episodes with dialogue) characters. I got 68/100.

I forgot Moe and now I can never show my face in public again

69/100, forgot loads of obvious ones, Eddie and Lou police (I remember them but couldnt remember names), Martin Prince, I couldn't spell Kearney either. Cletus and Frink I totally forgot about, couldn't remember Dolphs name. The rest are pretty much just names I didn't know, actually going to have to look some of these up  Enjoyable quiz though.

Listen carefully and my words will shape images as clear as any TV show. It was a tumultuous time for our nation: the
clear beverage craze gave us all a reason to live. The information superhighway showed the average person what some nerd thinks about Star Trek. And the domestication of the dog continued unabated.

Lisa, the mob is working on getting your saxophone back. But we've also expanded into other important areas. Literacy programs, preserving our beloved covered bridges, world domination...

World domination?

Oh ho, heh, that might be a typo. Mental note: the girl knows too much.

Why do you think I took you to all those Police Academy movies!? For fun?! Well, I didn't hear anybody laughing, did you?! Except at that guy who made sound effects. Bbbbewm. Wvvvwwh, wvvvhw. Thbbt, thbbt, thbbt. Honk! Honk! Pchhhew! Heheheheh. Where was I? Oh, yeah. Stay out of my booze.

I found this on reddit, a link to the mp3 versions of the commentaries. I could provide a torrent link for those who want the episodes with alternate commentary audio tracks.

Some good commentaries off the top of my head: Homer at the Bat, The Otto Show, Marge vs the Monorail, Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment, Dead Putting Society.

Need to rewatch these when I get time. Haven't seen them since I was a kid and although I memorised a lot of the dialogue just by watching them over and over, most of the plot and jokes went over my head. Reading this thread makes me realise just how much.

Yes, the Simpsons have come a long way since an old drunk made humans out of his rabbit characters to pay off his gambling debts. Who knows what adventures they'll have between now and the time the show becomes unprofitable....

For me this is the really impressive thing about the simpsons. You can watch it as a kid or as an adult and find completely different things equally funny.
