Great player and all but Messi as the 8th pick in an all-time World Cup draft? This is probably the strangest choice I’ve seen since playing these drafts.
 
I find his 2014 world cup performance underrated.

Read the below stats somewhere a while back

Goals scored - 4 (highest 6)
Chances created - highest
Through balls - Highest along with an Italian genius
Dribbles finished - 46 (2nd highest was 29) (Maradona had 50 in 1986)

Maybe wouldn't be my 8th pick as well, but still a very good pick.
If Argentina would have won that world cup, maybe the rhetoric would have been different.

He was good, no doubt. I would expect to see him picked in the later rounds but he looks so out of place there.
 
A very good performance but not an all-time great though, I'd still pick a few attackers before him. The biggest criticism is that most of his deeds came in the early stages of the tournament

Yup. If I understand his strategy his next pick will be pretty good and makes complete sense

Messi is actually a great pick. Gets to pick from relatively unchallenged pool the best of the earlier WC's, whilst also getting a big name to boot.

Sound strategy until someone breaks the chain.
