Wayne Rooney rejoins Everton | United save £30M by giving him £10M pay-off

The first touch in the above vid is poor and unfortunately standard. What about the pass before it though? He's got all that space in front of him but chooses a pointless pass inside to a guy who's closely marked.

The amusing thing for me is that it's typical of his positioning. He had to retreat to left back to find space.

When the ball starts to go forward he stays in that left back position as well. No real effort to advance with the team. The guy's mentally had enough I think. If he was three years older he'd retire. It probably just doesn't sit right with him given he's only 31.

Meh! who cares, he'll put in a decent performance at the weekend and the press will love it...for 24 hours!

Then he can go back to being average for the next 6 months. Same as Welbeck and any other departure from United.

Plenty suffer from a phycial decline but with Rooney it's really had an impact on his confidence.

Off course he got plenty of space. And attacker retreating into the backline will always havr space.

Wellbeck

Martin Keown on BT Sport just now: "Wayne Rooney, suddenly he looks an old man tonight". Who has he been watching for the past 3/4 years?

This is the thing. I can understand players of other teams dropping off a fan's radar, unlike those who are watching them week in week out. But all the pundits watch United and all of them paid particular attention to Rooney for us and England and yet they defended his poor displays to the hilt.

Keown's whitewashing of the past few years of Rooney's career is the latest in a long line of people in football; from Wilkins to Van Gaal and Koeman, appraising Rooney on his past deeds and reputation rather than what was staring them in the face.

It seems many of the pundits were happy with Rooney's decline as long as he was our problem

It's his usual ritual as soon as his team starts losing and he can't get anywhere near the ball in tight space with high defence, so he just decides himself(player manager) that he'll spend rest of the game deeper keeping possession, making pointless passes, and in the end his fans will tell us how he was actually one of the better players in that game.

His "pressing" reminds me of Andy Samberg's "Mark Wahlberg talking to animals" sketches.

Not according to the commentators. They kept going on and on about how he'd grown into the game and was holding up the ball really well for the last 30 minutes.

All I saw was a slow striker passing the ball back and to the right.

One nice piece of play where he played it out to the right and hit the return ball just wide of the left post. Otherwise though he has been coughing up possession.

In spite of how bad he sometimes manages to look, been a decent attacking threat.

There are plenty of angry birds behind rooney's sleeve.

Sigh. I'll try to be clear so you little precious souls can understand.

It. Was. A. Joke.

The smiley should have made it clear ffs.

Don't type 'sigh', you're a decent poster but it makes you sound daft.

Highlights game again from Rooney, made some good looking passes, but generally by dropping deep to find space (so not being able to fully join the attack) or long out wide for space, so neither made a difference and almost unbalanced the team. Did alright in closer spacers towards the end of the first half.

Not sure why Everton went for him and Sigurdsson, they are very similar in many respects nowadays, should have skipped one of them for a 9. Still glad he isn't our problem.

People giving him grief for a very very obvious joke. lambo isn't the one looking daft here.

Watching some of his misplaced passes today made me thankful Jose got rid when he did.

Me sounding daft? And thank you for your validation.

For your information I actually sighed for real. It's a shame some of you have to be so serious and can't just have a little fun. Rooney has gone, it's done, people need to lighten up now. The rest of your post I agree with, which makes it at odds as to why you specifically quoted me out of the blue there? Seems a little odd.

Doesn't matter, I'm still fuming.

 I know, too soon clearly man! But he didn't need to chip us for the reactions anyway, and we won 4-0, so all is good ;)

I have a thing about the online sigh, think that was one too many this evening, probably ought to go back outside
