Probably already been posted before, but first time I've seen it - good watch.

Have to agree with this. Amazing goal though, haven't seen him do that outside of freekicks in a while. Good to see!

Did it a couple of times last year as well. Fulham away and vs Bilbao come to mind. I'm sure there were 1-2 more.

Great hit from Rooney. Thought he played well as well. Got 2 assists and showed plenty of nice link up play and one touch passing around the box

“It’s great to have played so many games for this club at such a young age and it’d be nice to reach the 200 mark.

“It would be an achievement I’d be proud of and hopefully I can get there between now and the end of the season.”

As for Fergie’s target, he told Inside United: “Yes of course I can reach that. It’s great for us to have so many forwards who can play well and score goals.

“That shows the quality we have in the squad. We’ve scored a lot of goals.

“This is a brilliant squad with a fantastic mix of experienced players and young players who all have great ability and a real desire to win.

“Once the young players have their first taste of silverware with the club they will realise just how good it feels and they will want to keep doing it.”

5 more goals and he will reach 200 goals for United... hopefully he can do that this season.

As for Fergie's target of 25 goals, I'm not sure he'll reach that because he'll have to score around a goal a game? And he's not taking pens anymore. His large amount of assists make up for it though if he doesn't reach Fergie's target.

the first half goal really helped, it made norwich push up a bit and gave rooney a bit of space to operate in - his run for the second goal was trademark old rooney, lovely bent run and made good space in the box, then a lovely lay off.

When he is feeling energetic and making those annoying runs he is almost unplayable.

Its a shame it only happens every couple games now though, if he had that second half performance every game people would never doubt him.

I'm sorry... Wut?! Only happens every couple games? Here's me thinking he's one of the most productive players in the league.

Simply faultless on saturday. Watching that convinced me that SAfs plan before RVP became a realistic target was Kagawa in the hole and Rooney up top. If he plays like that tuesday we are through. No doubt.

Very poor first half and killed countless attacks, but grew into the game as did Valencia, particularly in that last 20 mins where he was excellent and basically everywhere. You could see that he was getting very pissed off with himself in that first half because of the wasted opportunities, but you could sense he was going to get a goal or make something happen by the end of it. It was basically a 09-10 performance.

The great thing is that these days when he gets furious with himself, he generally buckles down and sorts it out. I keep thinking he's going to dive in on someone, or nut the ref, or chew his own cock off, but he just doesn't anymore.

The guy behind me was slagging him off no end. I mean, he was poor, but I don't think it required the level of abuse this guy was directing towards him. Needless to say, he was being less critical after he twatted that last one in... so that was extra satisfying.

He contributed in a big way to the win but he was a long fecking way from 'simply faultless'. He did very little right for much of the game.

What he did that really impressed me is rather than let his head drop after a few dodgy passes and decide he cannt be arsed which has happened more than a few times in the past he stayed positive.

Id say much of the game is a bit harsh, he looked very good in the second half imo.

That's something I thought was particularly good about him yesterday, he kept his anger aimed at the right person, himself, and perhaps used that to bring about parts of that second half performance, rather than just lashing out as soon as he had the chance. He really has matured a lot.

I pointed exactly that out to someone a few weeks ago. He's grown up a lot, I've just checked and his last red card was 2 1/2 years ago playing for England. For United it was 4 years ago and it was for a second yellow card against Fulham.

He just comes across as a mature player now, gone has the petulant spoilt brat red mists and in it's place a much more collected and focused anger that you feel can lead him to do something good rather than stupid.

According to this website Rooney is the 5th highest all time PL assist maker: http://www.statbunker.com/football/ktg/index.php?PL=ktgalltime&Code=EPL&statType=assist

Also his record in terms of goals/assists in the CL is outstanding considering the defensive roles he's played in big games.

I think Rooney is actually underrated, he may not be as flashy as some players or as explosive as he use to be as a teenager.. but he delivers all the time for the biggest club in the world, no matter where he is played. He is one of the main reasons we have been so successful in recent history.

That is probably based on ESPN stats that don't date back to the inception of the Premier League. I think this is more accurate http://www.premiersoccerstats.com/Records.cfm?DOrderby=Ass&DYearby=All Seasons - It has Rooney at 10th, with 126 assists.

That he seems energetic and full of running.

Don't tell me every game this year you've watched him, you thought "wow Rooney sure is running his ass off".

I can remember maybe a handful. A few years back he would be running behind defences latching onto scholes passes over the top for fun, but he does less now.

Perhaps it's more to do with he drops deeper now than he used too, but it's nice to see him mix it up every now and again.

Just gonna repost something I said in the Suarez thread, because I think of all my boring stats this is one which genuinely deserves a bit of attention. Not entirely pertinent to tonight, but a reminder of his quality when it really matters:

I just checked all this because I can't sleep, and these are the goalscoring records of three top players away from home in the knockout stages of the Champions League since 2009.

A. 6 goals in 7 games
B. 5 goals in 11 games
C. 2 goals in 7 games

The three players in question are Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. See if you can guess which record belongs to which.

I really hope we don't play him wide again tomorrow night :(

For some reason it seems Rooney turns it up in the more difficult knock out matches rather than the group stages which most strikers boost their tallies with (see Torres)

Rooney is a, messi b and Ronaldo c. I remember in 09/10 alone, Wayne scored 2 at the San Siro, and one in Munich, then the next year he scored away to Chelsea and away to schalke and in the final against Barca (not sure if that one counts, so a or b.

Cue speculation linking him with a summer to PSG in 3...2...1...

On the bench. Can only assume he's got a slight knock/was feeling ill. Huge call if it's purely tactical.

He's on the bench. Maybe SAF playing mind games with him. Get him wound up at being dropped and see him make a big impact from the bench.

Worked for Beckham in 03.

If he's not injured it's an amazing decision to not start him.

I seem to remember hs has sinusitis last week, so perhaps he has shown reaction in training to weekend match
