As usual, Rooney shits on those who doubt him. Great game for him. Two assists and a sensational strike at the end.

He was really poor in the first half, a bit better in the second, and finished well.

Have to agree with this. Amazing goal though, haven't seen him do that outside of freekicks in a while. Good to see!

Thought he was really good most of the second half and got 2 assists and a goal so you can't ask for much more even though he did have a poor first half.

Definitely wasn't a "world class" performance though.

Is that 11 goals in 14 games now? Plus is that stat that if Rooney scores at Old Trafford we have never lost true?

The people who say he doesn't score screamers enough really need to pay attention to the last three times he's done so. It is only because he never tries to do it (except when the match is already over), that people think he can't do it

That's achievable. Another 3 or 4 years of him scoring 15-20 goals a season is a reasonable expectation.

Barring any long-term injuries, obviously. Or a barring a move to a different club :nervous:.

He could knock that off in 2 seasons if he stays fit. I expect it to be less than 50 by the end of this season.

Really came to life when Robin went off. Lifted the whole team with a sensational final 20-25 minutes.

I thought he was really poor today, his touch and passing were way off the mark and a lot of moves broke down because of him. Then he goes and gets two top class assists and scores a peach. Hopefully that will help him find some form because we need Rooney in his pomp in the big games that are coming.

The glory of wayne rooney. Wasteful first half, really great second. One of his biggest critics but i was very pleased with him today.

The way he opened a clear path to goal with that feint you just knew the shot would be devastating. His contribution to Kagawa's two second half goals was brilliant as well. Let's hope against Real he can just pick up where he left off.

Did anybody else thought of that goal he scored in his debut, with a very similar dummy (without touching it that time before) just as he was going to hit it?

It was in the same goal, I reckon.

^Thought the same. The drop of the shoulder for that immense finish. Trademark Wayne that.

was a different player in the second half...probably got one eat bashing from Fergie..."hey wayne..fooking start playing yer granny grunting fooker, toerhwise no game for yer on toosdey"

seemed to have worked...

This. He did play a couple of really nice passes before the goals - one putting RVP through 1-on-1, and an amazing first-time flick under pressure. But generally I thought he was shite, nothing was coming off.

And then... yeah. Wayne Rooney. You can't keep him down.

Was awful in the first I thought, second half completely different story though. That strike for the goal

Of late, he doesn't let a bad first half or 60 minutes keep down anymore. He just keeps persevering and reaps the benefits beautifully.

the first half goal really helped, it made norwich push up a bit and gave rooney a bit of space to operate in - his run for the second goal was trademark old rooney, lovely bent run and made good space in the box, then a lovely lay off.

When he is feeling energetic and making those annoying runs he is almost unplayable.

Its a shame it only happens every couple games now though, if he had that second half performance every game people would never doubt him.

While I agree with the general idea, couldn't you argue that the reason we see those runs less is because of van Persie and Hernandez who generally play in front of him and thus he's the one making the late run into the area, or the one playing the ball in?

14 goals and 14 assists in 29 games so far this season. Not bad, eh?

I hate comparisons, but it puts Messi's figures in context. Very different players though and the gap between them isn't as large as the gap between their stats.
