Smug face from Ed.

Quite amazing how so many people bought into that and used that to criticize Moyes and Woody. Still won't stop them I suppose

Because, you know, he was going to admit to those things in an official statement.

I'm not saying that either is the case but let's not be stupidly naive into the bargain.

I'm actually surprised he wants to be an ambassador for United rather than going back to Everton for a similar role. Bodes well for his commitment to the cause.

So that might not be the case (and he's most likely telling the truth. Was quite a ridiculous rumour in any case) but it still won't stop the masses from having a go at Moyes despite not having a shred of evidence to back up their ridiculous beliefs. That actually sums up pretty much all your posts on this thread. You make up a hypothetical scenario in your mind and then have a pop at Rooney/Moyes/Wood based on it. Pathetic.

 indeed.

I have no idea whether I'm happy or not. So many positives and negatives come out of this I feel. I think the key will be if he performs on the pitch or not. If he does well and we do well then no one, myself included, will give a crap about the negatives.

great news!! one bad season and all to players want out and all this crap and he resigns its a big boost for the club top players want to play with Wayne Rooney.. best news this season by far. Well done Wazza

I can't really understand the negatives. I mean 6 months ago the Caf was so adamant generally that there was no way United could let Rooney go. Now he signs and there is all this doubt....odd....

You'll be paying him £300,000 a week when he's 33. That's insane.

Rooney's camp know full well United just cannot afford to let him leave and they've played it perfectly.

I don't think you can flippantly rule out the idea that Rooney might have some behind the scenes influences going on. This contract was only negotiated by one side.

well..not necessarily. United is a huge business. I mean..we could sell him in the summer of 2015 and get more for him than if he refused to sign now...yes?

All speculation and rumor mongering. Do i think the waeg is high? Yes. Is that the way football is going? Yes. Your club will do the same once Wenger leaves.

It's either pay up or go the Arsenal route and lose your best players for low fees becoming specialists in failure.

It's great for all parties. The people saying it's bad should remember Jose wanted Rooney. He's no mug. A lot of clubs would like him. Whatever the wages are, we've not buckled. We've shown commitment and if we show that in the summer then we'll be where we belong once again. Once Rooney's back in the goals, it's a non brainer.

As for his role once retired - some people go on about players not caring. Obviously the club do and Rooney does and it's healthy for the club.

This contract was only negotiated by one side.

United left themselves no real room for manoeuvre when they gave him £250k/wk in his previous contract, knowing full well he'd need to renegotiate again at 28.

United officials knew this £300k/wk mega deal was on the horizon with quite a while. The only concern was convincing Rooney to sign it.

Fantastic news, never in doubt for me though in all honesty. Sticks one right up the muppet United fans that still try to claim he doesn't give a shit about United.

You used to at least make an effort with the wums, Al.

Brilliant news to start the week and some very important matches coming up. Delighted he has signed the contract. Salary and other things are not something we should worry about as fans IMO, so it's great news for us.
