Ronaldo. Our version of Rafa. Get over it.

What annoys me most is that I know that he won't be dropped. If that was another player he would sit on the bench next week.
feck that. Play rvp up front with kagawa behind him and let rooney on the bench until he gets his shit together
What H just said.
Wayne’s a stocky lad. If he misses a couple of games, it takes him three or four to come back
SAF on Wayne

I'm not one of his fans
To be fair, Rooney isn't going to get his shit together by being benched, he does need to play. However, when he is really poor, like Nani tonight he needs to be benched, there's no benefit by keeping him on late in the game when he is so ineffective.
What's the solution then? Keep him on ahead of 3 potentially better (at the monent) strikers? Based on today there's absolutely no reason to start Rooney ahead of RvP, who needs some game time himself both to get in form and to get used to the team.
The thing that strikes me about Rooney - and this has been mentioned and discussed before - is that he seems to have lost some of his fire. If he had played a game like this 3 years ago you can be damn sure he would've been charging around like a madman and risk getting sent off in the process. Now, I don't mind that he manages to keep a cool head these days, but I wouldn't mind getting some of that determination back. At times it looked like he couldn't care less when he lost the ball which is frankly quite uncharacteristic and a bit worrying, I think. He should not be an automatic starter this season like he's been in the past and hopefully this increased pressure will bring him back to his old level.
I am aware that this is an awful lot on when we've just played on match this season, but this is pretty much the same Rooney I saw for large parts of last season.
He needs to realise his place isn't guaranteed. One or two sub appearances and you'll see the hunger back in him.
He was lost out there.
Saw him pop up the right in the first half. He was all over the place.

How he is constantly finishing 90 minutes with this kind of performances in last two-three years is beyond me. Terrible performance, I hope Kagawa will take his place in next game.

They linked up very well a couple of times. Will obviously improve the more they play together.
