Well I was mainly referring to the deterioration of his relationship with SAF. Or at least thats what was speculated. He really was jerked around in various different positions last season. Left out of key matches for no reason. Then SAF reveals he handed in a transfer request etc.

I think Moyes could be the one to restore him to his previous form and wipe the slate clean. I really want him to play behind RVP because that would be potentially the most lethal strike force in Europe.

I see this untruth hasn't gone away. Ferguson said nothing of the sort.

Il give you a reason: he was playing shit

Jerked around in various positions??? boo fecking hoo, what happened to the street footballer who loves football and will play any where that he is asked?? Give me a fecking break, at the end of the day it comes down to this... he played shit, was subsequently dropped and instead of working to get back in the team he asks to leave.

Just for the record, that picture where he is standing entirely on his own away from the other players, was that after he had just taken a knock during his assist?

Nah, he took the knock after Welbeck's goal...

I don't think so, as RvP is in that picture, so it must have been after Van Persie's goal, the 3rd one. A shame he didn't celebrate that one to be honest, but I don't know why everyone is making a meal about the fourth goal (Danny's second), he'd been badly fouled and was probably still feeling it).

Some way to go before he reaches full fitness. Noticed some flab around his waist.

He looked lean in preseason. Shame he got that injury and did the usual Rooney thing.

He is going to act like that till transfer window closes. Doesn't mean we will sell him to chavs. Once the window is closed and his attitude doesn't change, he can play with reserves. Ideally, if he really has to go this summer, I hope it is Rooney+30-35m swap for Ronaldo.

he was fine and put in a good performance. once he's fully fit we'll all realise why we loved him. The lad is a gret player with a shit pr team. I'm happy for him to play here nd partner with rvp.

Sounds positive. Talks about lacking sharpness and hoping to get more games to get his fitness back. Didn't train with the first team because they were away. Refers to his shoulder injury and says he needed painkillers for it. Good. I'm fine with this Rooney staying if it goes like this.

Exactly. It's very hard to feel contempt for him. In a nutshell, he's a savant being used by low-level schemers. Sure, I could be wrong but I've never jibed with anyone of the "He's a grown man he knows exactly what he's doing" ilk. If anything he strikes me as a big kid who just wants to go out there and chew the pitch up and leaves the money decisions to the "Oh, you have a CPA? You must be smarter than me so I'll do whatever you say" lot.

If he fired them he'd be astonished at how much better he felt six months down the road. Free to get out there and play his heart out without some creep trying to convince him he's not getting his due.

Nothing wrong with what Rooney said in those quotes. Expect the media to take it as a "come and get me" plea though.

feck off you Rooney haters.

He came on tonight, despite all the shit some have given him, and gave a promising cameo. Not many players "who want to leave" would supply two assists and covered a lot of ground. I mean surely you lot saw the determination in his run for RVP's goal.

We wouldn't be giving him minutes, 5 minutes maybe but not 30, if we were planning to sell him off.

He's in a strop. Everyone can see that. Eventually he'll see sense - he needs to stay. He's a fecking good player.

What a fecking hero.

He came on, had a lot of good movement, wanted to get on the ball all the time and looked fit. It seemed awkward between him and the team and he did get ignored a lot when he found space for the pass. If this is going to carry on then I'd rather we sell him. I'd rather have a team 100% in sync. Hopefully he stays though and things get back to normal. He showed his quality when he came on.

You do realise he gets paid a week what many people struggle to make in 10 years...

A promising cameo, well thank you Wayne.

Not a mention of United, nor our manager; plenty of words for Hodgson & England though.

"Rooney Haters" - I don't think that is the case, mostly fans are frustrated at this saga, especially following his last request to leave and subsequent pay hike. A professional performance from him today, nothing more from a player of his quality. That is the least we can expect from him, and we can't expect much more if he wants to leave. A pragmatic solution would be to sell him to a foreign club, however that would seem unlikely something he would agree to.

I was at the game today.
I've been one of Rooney's staunchest defenders in this thread, but I genuinely think we should sell him now - just not to Chelsea. Yes he came on and got two assists but he doesn't want to be here. It's probably dependent on whether or not we can bring in an adequate replacement so late in the window (looking unlikely), but I think he should go if we can.

He was clapped on was he?

At the moment only Chelsea seem to want him, so we would be foolish to get rid of him especially as we have no one coming in right now. He showed flashes of his quality tonight and he could be devastating at a club like Chelsea.

People place far too much emphasis on their own perceptions of body language sometimes. If managers selected teams based on body language interpretations or bought players based on body language interpretations there would be some really fecking weird teams out there.

I thought the fans were brilliant with him. Only player not to have applauded the fans too. He's trying his hardest to be a cnut. Will be interesting to see the reception he gets next week.

Hope he doesn't pull out with mysterious injury.

Quite. No-one on this forum has a fecking clue what's going on with him. That photo of him apparently not celebrating with the others was taken just after he got up, having been fouled in the build up to the goal.

Fans should let the manager worry about things like attitude and fitness, and focus on what we can see for ourselves - his footballing contribution. Two assists in half an hour speaks pretty loud.

I hope the fans repeat their effort with him again. Showed some class from our fans and at some point he will wake up and appreciate it.

That photo was from after the third goal - no foul on Rooney in that build up.

As you can see from Van Persie being there, that photo was taken after out third goal when Rooney didn't get fouled on the build up. He got fouled for the last goal (when RVP was off the pitch and couldn't be on the photo). It's poor behavior not celebrating with the team. Or not applauding the fans after they gave him a good support that he actually doesn't deserve.

Would you rather we'd done without the last two goals?

Doesn't mean that we wouldn't score those goals without him. Especially the third one.

By the same logic we might have won this game without van Persie. The fact is Rooney provided two assists in a short space of time to help us put the game to rest. If you're a football fan, that's what matters. If you're a reality TV fan, carry on 'analysing his body language'.

Bottom line is if he plays well even if he looks like he has just swallowed a cup of cold sick then play him. On form he is a superb player.
