in terms of getting it sorted out all Chelsea have bid is 30 million (or 25 million plus addons)

consider that as Rooney hasn't handed in a transfer request we would have to pay his contract up - somewhere in the region of 13 million depending on media bollocks

If we sold him today it would essentially mean we would get 17 million for the deal - a pretty poor return for a player of his class

I think you are also under rating Rooney - he hasn't been at his best in the last season but you talk about him as if he is a flop - its wrong to base his ability on one season anyway especially given his role in the team

add to that the previous season - 38 goals in 49 games and the fact he has been one of the best players in Europe for 6/7 years

look at the issues we have signing a midfield player - it would be a nightmare replacing Rooney - I can't think of a player who can do what he does who is available for a comparable price - who realistically would you sign?

I wouldnt be too hasty to get rid of him

He'd need to put in the transfer request and we'd need to get a bid over 40 million to make it worth our while - Chelsea certainly have got the money but I would still rather hang on than than strengthen a rival

If he really wanted to then his second bid would have been a serious bid. It's the couple of million that so called 'greedy bastard Wayne' wants that makes no sense to me. Chelsea can afford to pay it, United certainly could if there were any problems. Surely a few little tidbits have been lost along the way and bollocks have been spouted by the media? I'd not even put it past Mourinho to be bidding for a bit of a wum such is the eccentricity of the man.

It just keeps leading me to believe that there has been no change in the situation other than Rooney will stay (post second bid) and everything the club has said (shock horror) is actually true. But don't let me get in the way of the conspiracy theorists and doomsayers.

edit; Even though I've picked up bits and pieces from this thread from what the general consensus here is that the player is a greedy cnut for doing something that we as fans might not even know is true because there hasn't been any concrete evidence? It seems alien to me. A bit weird.

But that is more than likely because I haven't read a shred of paper-talk that hasn't had proper quotes on it that have been narrowed down by the lads on here.

I think if you believe that all these Rooney stories are being made up, your being quite Naive.

Chelsea would not bid for Rooney if there was no interest, you don't just try your luck with the biggest team in the leagues "star" player on the off chance.

Clearly Rooney has not been happy at the club for whatever reason, the paper journo's have been drip-fed information about how he feels "abuses and mistreated". Its all just a face saving scheme so that brand Rooney does not get damaged when he leaves.

I will be absolutely shocked if he stays beyond this summer, and is back to the Rooney we all remember in a Man Utd shirt.

Why would a transfer request trigger a bidding war? Its No secret he wants to leave. I'm suspicious the likes of psg/barca/madrid aren't putting bids in because rooneys camp has told them not to bother. Everyone always says he won't move abroad which limits our choices considerably.
selling below 35m is ridiculous (to a rival). Chelsea don't need much to become a real title contender...rooney would do that. How much is a title worth?
Better to keep him for a year, sell him well past his peak.
 
There is no way that not handing in a transfer request means that you have to pay up a players' contract.

How do you think we signed Van Persie?.. Blind luck?... Even if he made it pretty clear he was leaving.

I'll say this, I said to a City supporter before all the shit went down and it looked like he was going to leave "I'd like to think that if Van Persie's intention is to leave then Fergie has to be at least in there *trying* to sign him. Whether we do or we don't Fergie would be mad not to". I was laughed at and ridiculed for suggesting such thing to him and that there is less than no chance of him going to United.

Well guess what feckface. He signed and dicked the league and we won the title. Good one.

It's the same kind of situation here. If people want him they are definitely going to try their luck whether he will sign or he wont.

In theory, it would lower his price because we won't have to pay Rooney some loyalty bonus as is being discussed in this thread (although I personally don't think it's as much as people are talking about). From a PR perspective, it can be spun as Rooney forcing himself out rather than the nasty club forcing him out.

No, the club can refuse his request if he does. If he puts in a transfer request it will guarantee his constant abuse at OT next season. Putting in a request is a very big risk for him. Considering he seems to have bad advisers, he might just do it. I would not be surprised to see the club play hard ball with him and reject his request and let him run down his contract. Remember, the World Cup is on next summer, so he needs to be putting in good performances if he wants to go there ( if England qualify ). The club is bigger then the player, and while Rooney is a big player he is not bigger than Manchester United.
 
realistically - if you are in favour of selling who would you sign to replace Rooney?

Kagawa looks a tidy player and will contribute well but he didn't have the impact in terms of goals and assists that Rooney did

That special twat is only doing what any other manager in his position would do. It's Rooney that requested a transfer at the worst possible time.

no one I know in world football sinks to the depths Jose does in practicing the 'dark arts' but yes Rooney seems to deal with things in the worst way possible

If that's the case then the club should set a ridiculous asking price and make Rooney aware of it, Chelsea will give up on him and his only option will be to go abroad.
 
I'd rather keep Rooney and have him not play football for two years then sell him to Chelsea for anything less then 40m.

United seem intent on clinging on to Rooney after rejecting a second bid of around £30m by Chelsea and new manager David Moyes insisting over the last few weeks that the forward was not for sale.
"Wayne hurt his shoulder in a fall during a match on Saturday," Moyes told the United website. "It's not too serious and I don't expect it to keep him out for too long.
"I'm disappointed he's missing the game because we were keen to get him back involved and ready to play."
After two friendlies against AIK Solna and Sevilla over the next week, the Premier League champions will begin their defence on August 17 at Swansea six days after playing Wigan in the Community Shield at Wembley.
However, with four weeks left in the transfer window, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will be carefully weighing up his options as he considers making his next move to snare Rooney.
The former Everton star has two years left on his current deal at United and is reportedly ready to force a transfer through by handing in a written transfer request.

Undoubtedly and I agree with that price, but using the logic 'Torres cost 50 million so X player should be Y amount' is no good since no-one with half a brain thinks Torres for 50 million was a good deal, otherwise Falcao would have been worth about 200 million. The Torres transfer must be treated as a total unrepeated, unmentioned anomaly surpassed only by Andy Carroll, and Jordan Henderson on the level of value for money!

Bale is going for a huge amount, but off the back of a world class season, whereas Torres was off the back of 2 average seasons.

To be fair to Torres he has actually to some degree been a success, in the sense that whilst his goals haven't been flowing some of the ones he has scored have actually resulted in silverware, or finals. However the price tag was still ridiculous, 15-20 would have been about right.

This doesn't make sense and isn't true. What if a player has a five years contract with his club and is on 200k/week. The club sells him for 40m but does this mean that the club has to pay 50m to that player?

Players get a fixed amount of money as a loyalty bonuses from the club. I don't think that they are so high, probably a couple of millions or so.
