Really starting to look good now. He was terrible at the start of the season but the break with injury seemed to help him recharge his batteries. Great to see all three strikers hitting form or on form.

He was the only one out of our front 6 that looked arsed for most of the game. Think today was further proof that he's got it within him to be an amazing midfielder, and all.

Dived to win the penalty though, I thought.

Anyone else notice by the way that Sky sped the replay up BOTH times at exactly the bit (on the decisive angle) whereby it would've been easy to see whether or not he'd dived?

Are we still trying to cover up the fact that English players dive?

That flick to Hernandez for the 3rd goal showed some absolutely brilliant awareness and he also took a great penalty under pressure. He was everywhere today.

No wonder people say he produces MOTM every game, when after todays game they say he was MOTM by mile. To clear up, he was one of our better players, but this was solid performance, nothing more. His passing was neat and tidy, and he did nothing special except for that assist,

He could score a hat trick and you'd think he only did "all right".

Was sloppy leading up to the penalty - could have done a lot better but, kind of just stabbed at the ball that allowed the Braga player to get a run on to Evans.

But, scored 1 and created another plus for the most part his nice passing of the ball - most part because there were definitely some wtf moments.

Needs to be more carefull in our half.

But he is learning this midfield trade and even though Wayne is one of the smartest players around - there is still a huge learning curve going from forward to midfield.

Rooney also defends his man in our half too much like a forward. He presses and gets waay too tight and gets beaten on the turn.

Saying that, he just looks so comfortable pulling the strings from deep.

Rooney will get better and better. He is class in every position.

It will have been Portuguese cameras.

Fergie must've paid them off and all. Or Sky. I dunno, it was really blatant though, it couldn't have been any more exact.

Edit: Ah, they've just gone over it again on Sky. Never mind, must've been Fergie again.

That's not true. I praise him whenever he puts great performance, it's ridiculous to call this "MOTM performance by mile", becuse it never was. I said he did allright, because he did allright, nothing more, nothing less.

Yep, he wasn't special at all today, and he was at fault for the penalty leaving Evans exposed with that lazy touch. Nice flick to Hernandez at the end, and his penalty was awful lucky.

That slide rule pass in the first half was insane. And he really took charge in the 3rd half. MOM.

Thought he looked quite uncomfortable in the middle today. Again though it's tough to call because the middle 3 were just so unbalanced but you'd think they could have worked off each other better on the ball. He was guilty of some sloppy play and have to say he and Giggs have more than enough experience to know not to try so many long passes, particularly when we were under pressure and needed to just keep the ball a bit.

Produced a great little flick for Chicharito's goal and a very early, great long-range pass to Nani but other than that was quite poor tonight I thought.

I thought he had a good game, and was one of our best players.
We played like shit mostly because of the midfield (I still don't know how and why Fergie starts Giggs in midfield - in Europe nonetheless), and it's true he wasn't exactly phenomenal, but we generaly played like shit and I think he did better than most players. Great flick, great penalty.
Granted there were moments where he looked a bit lost and lost the ball a couple of times, but overall I can't complain (the same can't be said about Giggs & co.)

One of our best players on the night, which frankly wasn't hard. Great flick for Hernandez for his goal, although he did his best to make a complete balls of it. I think Rooney blatantly dived for the penalty to be honest, and the resulting kick was meant to go in the other corner. I like him in midfield if RVP is up front.

not as blatant as some let on. rooney's right foot was clipped, after he touched the ball, running in at nearly full speed. from this point it gets dicey though. ;)

Is there a clip/gif of the Rooney penalty incident?

I couldn't really tell from the replays what actually happened.

Edit: Found it, even from this it's far from clear.

it is kind of frustrating this. I wanna see the slow motion replay as well :D

He slipped, touched the ball twice, it wasn't great penalty.

Looks like he was just looking for the contact and then going down - not really a pen but hard to see, esp for the ref

I'mma go ahead and believe you when you say he touched the ball twice, because although I didn't see it, I didn't exactly look for it either.
But the penalty was struck high under the bar and the keeper had no chance of getting to it.

So if he does touch the ball twice, should the penalty be retaken?

Wasn't there a penalty where the taker passed the ball to one of his team mates who then scored or am I getting that confused with something else.

What are the rules, does it have to touch another player (goal keeper presumably) or object (post) before the penalty taker can play the ball again?

If he did touch it twice, that's a free-kick to the defending team. Yes, the ball does have to touch another player (or go out of bounds) before the penalty taker can touch it again. Hitting the post doesn't count, if the ball comes off the post after a penalty the taker can't touch it.

Arsenal tried something funny once (Henry and Pires?) but it went horribly wrong

Colin brought up the idea of the penalty taker passing to a teammate instead of shooting, I just posted the most famous example.

Yeah, I think he touched it, you could see it by the ball trajectory it wasn't clear shot.
