Started very well but disappeared after the half hour mark. Really stupid foul to give away for the Mata freekick.

I thought he played fairly well. Put in a good defensive shift at points more so than doing to much at the pointy end of the attacks. Though stupid tackle to give away the freekick that led to the goal.

Was rightly subbed I thought, I could see the ref giving him a second yellow to 'even' things back up a bit so taking him off was the smart thing.

He was playing too deep for a lot of the game. Did well for the Luiz og though. You don't want to see Rooney making challenges on the edge of his own box though.

'City's information'

Incredibly credible.

Idk, I expect clubs to know what other clubs are paying each other players as agents would leak this information when trying to get a transfer.

Maybe post the source to help determine its validity....

If it's someone like Duncan Castles I would take it with a pinch of sodium chloride

Here you go..thought guardian added the links on their own.

Rooney only got freedom because ronnie had left.

If ronnie stayed, Fergie would have no issue fecking off wayne.

Should've just tried giving ronnie 300k a week in 2009. Would've completely blown everything/everyone else out of the water but hindsight says it would've been worth it.

Well be fecked off didn't be? To Persie his dream. Rooney decided he was staying.

He put in a great shift for the first half hour, then made a mistake when he took down Hazard infront of the penalty box which led to Chelsea's 1st goal, and after that I'd say he was pretty much "average", in terms of not really doing anything special, but also not making any more mistakes.
All in all it was an ok game, he could've done better, but I'd say he put in a good shift.

Expect him to be firing on all cilinders against Arsenal on the weekend.

Was surprisingly annonymous. Certainly not one of his better games, I expected more. His foul on Hazard was as stupid as they come. Still worked immensely for the team and that's what matters.

What ? Prior to the foul on Hazard, he was fecking brilliant.

All of our players were good till the 35 th minute's mark. He was far from a star man in that contest, something that was to be expected from such a wonderful player.

He'll be terrific against Arsenal mind you.

His problem is that he always wants his penalties to be perfectly slotted. Because of that, it'll mean that he sometimes ends up overhitting it as he does. When he scores, his penalties are often excellent and the keeper struggles to get to them, for example.

That record is worse than I thought it was though and is incredibly poor for someone regularly taking our penalties. He misses in a lot of big games too: Chelsea last year, Arsenal in 2010/2011. Hopefully he'll get off with this one like he did with them.

He's also scored alot of big pressure penalties though. 2 at Stamford Bridge last season, one at Blackburn to win the league, against Italy for England. I think generally over the last season or so his execution has been very good.

The problem is though that a top penalty taker for a team such as us should be finishing pretty much all of his big pressure penalties; not just some. Look back at someone like RVN for instance. While there was that one against Arsenal in 03, he was generally solid from penalties.

Name a lights out penalty taker these days. There aint none.

I'm sure you'll see plenty out there though who have more convincing records than 13 out of 20. His conversion rate is disappointing whatever way you look at it.

although he was at the center of everything, average performance from him

His penalties have improved a lot recently though so it's fairer to point out he'd scored the last 5 in very convincing fashion. Possibly more than that

They have, and when he does score they're excellent penalties, but he almost has this obsession with hitting every single penalty to complete precision so the keeper cannot get it. Sometimes he just has to settle for it not being exact and he won't miss the target like that.

Agreed. He was good today for the most part. That kind of penalty miss is inexcusable though.

Made more tackles than any player on the pitch, from both sides. Good game from Wayne but he is capable of playing a lot better.

Played a defensive role and given Arsenal up until injury time created feck all, then he did his job.

Going forward, can't really afford to miss as many penalties as we have this season.

He was good today. Wouldn't say he was a stand-out player or outstanding. But did fairly well.

Average performance?
He was very good.

Yes, average. Could have been much better. If he played similarly to when he came back from his gash, we would have been on another level. I will say though, his defensive work was very good. From an attacking perspective, I thought he was alright. Bright in certain periods, bit lumbered in others. As a team, we looked cushioned within our comfort zone the whole match.

Shit penalty. Think I prefer someone else to take them over Rooney right now. He seems to miss fairly often at the moment.

Had decent game other than that

I reckon RvP should be our number 1 penalty taker (he used to put them in at Arsenal without fuss), then Rooney himself

Oh for feck sake, when RvP missed the penalty everybody was begging for Rooney to take them, now he misses one and suddenly Misters and Misses Hindsight think they're on to something.

As long as RVP doesn't try any chipped penalties nonsense then he should be the designated penalty taker. Absolutely lethal throughout his career with the gooners and when he hits it with his left boot its unsavable.

I think with Van Persie getting to play uptop, we need to let Rooney taken penalties to maintain a balance of sorts. We need to keep them both happy after all.

Besides, Van Persie has a 1 in 2 record for us so far, doesn't he?

The penalty miss was really poor as they shouldn't have had a sniff of a point today, we were that much in control. Other than that, I thought it was his usual superb performance against Arsenal.

They're yet to show they can cope with him when he drops off and gets on the ball, but even if he wasn't as devastating in possession as he can be (was still good), he seemed to lead our brilliant effort of defending from the front, which is what gave us complete control of the game I think. The way he marshaled RVP for them together to take Arteta out of the game, was great to watch. It stemmed Arsenal's attacks before they could even get going as Cazorla couldn't get on the ball nearly enough with time & space in the areas that mattered. We made them 'play badly', forcing them to do something especial or different, which they didn't. We had control of the centre despite the numerical disadvantage & with Carrick badly out of form, & I think Rooney played a huge part in that.

penalty miss was not a big deal.

when he dropped further back, some of his passes to Valencia reminded me of Scholes.

The lad is brilliant.

with our defenders coming back and some of the younger lads pushing through...we look in good shape for the winter fixtures.
