Is it reckoned that Moyes and Rooney held their meeting today instead? Or it on hold indefinitely?

There was some moron from the Guardian on Talksport last night saying that Rooney simply needs a hug and that he can see it running on toward deadline day. I don't know where the logic in the latter comes from whatever your starting point in this debate.

Can't believe Moyes is happy to let this run on. He'll want to give him that hug - or kick his arse - as soon as possible. It has to be a major concern of his to get this sorted, so he can start preparing for the new season.

There was some Irish chappy on MUTV last night who said we should keep him and Moyes should give him the captaincy. Vidic would love that. Last time he got a big pay rise this time the captaincy. Bloody hell.

Captaincy, why stop there? We could name a stand after him, or maybe even change the name of the club.

Manchester United featuring Wayne Rooney.

If Barca are really interested then we should barter for Sanchez to be part of the deal. I'm a big fan of David Villa and he was my muppet hope the season we lost Ronaldo, but I think time has ticked on the possibility of him as a United player.

I honestly am sick of this. Where does he go from here if he does stay? You know he will be one substitution away from chucking his dummy out of the pram again the twat. So the choice is play him regardless of form or fitness or bench him and listen to him moan and want another transfer.

I'm surprised by the Barca talk. Not because I think he wouldn't fit in, I reckon he could do a great job there. I'm surprised because they're supposed to have no more transfer budget. They're chasing Thiago Silva. They're now supposed to be going after Gundogan - though I suspect they mean to try and get a pre-contract for next summer. And now Roo?

Unless they're talking about paying over 5 years or handing over a few more players, I don't see it. And matching his salary? If they're serious then it's probably a sign they really are following a Real Madrid style business plan. Looking at players as marketing assets as well as footballers.

join us in the Thiago transfer muppet thread. Alot more fun.

Rooney's an old battered toy, new shiny ones alot more fun to play with!

No need to stop there, we could buy the PL sponsorship rights and rename it the Wayne Rooney league, featuring some other blokes.

Yes. It's a strange one, if true. Still, I do think we might see more swaps and more complex deals in the future if it turns out FFP is something clubs actually worry about.

If Barca are really interested in Rooney - surely that would clinch the Thiago business? I don't particularly care for Sanchez, but some kind of swap deal involving Thiago would suit me.

I hope this Rooney business is settled v. soon - if, as rumoured, United will be announcing Thiago's signing at the press conference, we don't want the Wayne stuff overshadowing that like it did SAF's retirement, the title celebrations (to an extent) etc etc.

Daily Express: David Moyes to announce in his Friday press conference that Rooney WILL be staying at United.

:nono: :nono: :nono:

At least they said it was the Daily Express in the Talksport paper review earlier, the trouble being that as of a few minutes ago no sign of any massive exclusive

If it was some unconditional commitment on the part of Moyes i would be disappointed in his handling of the situation as a manager, so any word of concessions from either side will be important to how this is interpreted if true.

Interesting, i'd still rather an outright cut along with a performance related contract though.

I'm assuming RVP is on your standard type of contract however, so is Rooney going to be happy being the established player to operate under such conditions? Particularly when the likes of PSG and Chelsea would be happy to throw money at him without them.

Of course maybe that is the point eh? :smirk:

The only way I'd take him staying is if its written into a new contract that we can cut out his tongue. No more complaining, no more talking, you sit on that bench and like it.

this needs to be clarify as soon as possible. better at today's press conference.

if he is staying then he stays. we can focus on other new signings, and prepare for the new season.

if he is leaving, then better sooner rather than later. i don't want the club to sell him on the 30th august and did not sign any replacement. if rooney leaves then we are losing a 40 goals and assists combined a season player. a top class replacement is needed.

Keep him. He's a fantastic player. Terrible at negotiating a contract without ruining his reputation though. If can get him firing on all cylinders again with RVP we'll be fine.

This is possibly the perfect post.
Exactly what Im thinking! We have to keep Rooney. Get rid of his agent! ha

I do sort of agree with this , but I also think he needs a new challenge, yes I know your going to say He plays for United what more of a challenge does he need, but everybody gets bored in thier place of work and wants a change.

To be honest Rooney has muddied the waters far too much for me. I think he should be sold. If he stays the relationship between him and the fans is unlikely to be the same as it was and hes brought it all on himself. silly boy.

He should really have got rid of Stretford after the last disaster. Poor decision making by Rooney.

If he wants to go then there's no point in him staying for any party. If though he'd be happy to stay and help us mount the challenge for European dominance there's no better player in the world who can do what he does. Also re boredom, Giggs.

OK maybe not everybody , there is Scholes too, but some players need a new challenge every so often.
If he wants to stay and comments 100% and stops asking for a transfer when things don't go his way and can get back to his best, then fair enough, I just think its time for him to go.

Why? He's a great scapegoat, once Rooney decides he wants to stay then we can all blame Stretford slowly over time getting to like Rooney once more until he does it again.

True. I somehow just get the feeling that Stretford is behind most of it, maybe I don't give Rooney's intelligence enough credit

Whether Rooney's "complaints" originated from himself or Stretford, those complaints are nevertheless misguided at best.

So:
  • RVP signs, complies with Rooney's own wish that world class players be signed. Rooney can have no complaint.
  • SAF wanted to play 4-2-3-1, so RVP is the main man. Rooney can have no complaint.
  • Rooney "struggles" with fitness - is that SAF's fault? Did United not have the personnel or equipment for Rooney to want to get fitter? Rooney can have no complaint.
  • In many games Rooney plays averagely, looks disinterested and is hauled off by SAF. Rooney can have complaint.
  • Rooney is excluded from the team vs Real because SAF thinks United will be more effective with Welbeck. Rooney can have no complaint.
  • Rooney is reputed to be paid 250k per week...

Or..... maybe, just maybe, the issue is nowhere near as big as the media have made it out to be?
