Others in the past have asked for moves more than once and they don't get the same abuse. Just no consistency

They probably do, I recall Rio being booed by United fans after being linked to Chelsea. Fans forget in most cases, and tend to become masters of revisionism. I suspect if Rooney does move on, folk will look back at his career and think..yeah he was a cracking player for us. Well that's providing he doesn't sign for City or Liverpool and kisses their badge in front of the Strettie. But yeah if he's respectful after leaving..fans will forget how they felt about him.

Not buying the second fiddle argument. He was happy enough to play alongside Ronaldo, and even said in several interviews that Ronnie was the best player in the world.

Exactly. And he's never had the look of someone who resents RvP for taking over the mantle. He and RvP seem to get along really well and play well together.

The worst thing in my opinion is losing one of the biggest names in the team. Other good players will come to play with people like him. We'd have to replace him well in that regard, in my opinion.

It's only six characters, not as if we're about to sell Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

Do you not think there may be a reason for that? Do you think people arbitrarily decide Rooney is more deserving of abuse than other examples? He could help himself by keeping fit and not so obviously not giving a shit when he has one of his strops.

He's already asked to move. TWICE.

When he's fit and on form, yes, he's a world class footballer. He doesn't want to play for United. He gave a bullshit reason the last time he asked to move, we bought a world class player in RvP, and now Rooney can't handle playing second fiddle.

Yes, he has asked to move twice. For all we know he's asked countless other times too. And for all we know lots of players have asked for moves, or intimated that they might move on. Ruud asked for a move a few times before he went, people didn't stop singing his name. If he stays it's because he wants to. Simple as that really. If he doesn't stay, then I'll not shed any tears, but I'd rather a fit on form Rooney was playing for us than playing for Chelsea.

We've no idea what goes on behind the scenes at football clubs, and only ever hear what the club allows to get out, or what the press gets wind of.

As usual, it's always polemic where Wayne Rooney is concerned.

My line is the public statements which bring shame on the club - simple as that.

Only public statements? How would you've felt about Bestie's treatment of Sir Matt and United? Or Ronaldo and the use of the media to get his wish...whilst getting Blatter involved in the process? What about Beckham showing his (boot) cut to the media and subsequent transfer?

There were murmurs that Rooney's camp leaked SAF's retirement news weren't there? Definitely some power politics going on.
Rumours, yes. But Sir Alex said he didnt tell the players until wednesday morning, because of the rumours tuesday night, so I dont know where Rooney would have got his information from.

It's not his first transfer request. His reasons are easy to detect: it's because of him being an ungrateful, unprofessional and most of all greedy little prick and I'm still angry that we didn't sell him the first time around. His like a spoilt child that regularly throws his toys out of the pram and thinks he's better than he actually is. Not to forget how vastly overrated he is.

Compare him to a class act and class player like Robin.

Do you reckon Arsenal fans would agree that Robin is a class act?

I think you're too easily ashamed.

Rio actually met Kenyon in person. That's definitely worse than media statements trying to put a good spin on something already leaked by the club.

After United paid him to sit on his arse for a whole year. Gratitude eh.

The irony considering Van Persie did all this to Arsenal, and forced his way to their domestic rivals, no less. But it's ok right, "United are the greatest club in the world, you have the right to force your way out of any club to make a step up to the greatest club in the land" blah blah blah.

I think it's complete bollocks to be fair. What would Rooney have to gain by leaking it?

Van Persie moved to give himself the opportunity to win trophies. Rooney doesn't need that. He also didn't stop trying because he wanted to move.

VP had every right to seek a move to United. But Arsenal fans will tell you that he only gave them two injury free seasons. He was roundly booed at The Emirates perhaps for this very reason.

Well I dont agree - Rooney's media statements are more damaging to the club than what Rio did IMO.

and anyway Rio got slated by many fans and booed at OT, there are still many who slag him off due to those incidents. But time is a healer and if a player performs on the pitch and shows loyalty to the club then people start to forget.

2010 is still fresh in people's minds plus people now start to question Rooneys form and then there are other more minor indiscretions (defying club curfews, not keeping in shape, shagging hookers etc) which on their own would mean feck all but eventually there will be the straw that breaks the camel's back and this may well be it for Rooney.

Booing him for being injured is retarded though. It's not exactly the players fault.

He sticked with them as long as he could. He was eight years there. Arsenal haven't won the league since 2004 which is almost a decade. The guy is 29 and he's not getting any younger. What did you expect him to do? He had to leave for career reasons and frankly he did not have much of a choice. Since his departure, he hasn't lost a bad word about his former club, about his former manager and about the Gunners, despite the abuse he usually gets.

On top of that, you don't see him regularly papped eating fatty burgers, drinking pint after pint and having nights out before important games.

Its an interesting point, booing your own players. I cant recall us booing our own players, its possibly happened but I just cant remember.

I dont know the details of Best as I wasnt around - different times anyway.
I have some issue with Ronaldo but he never slagged off the club as Rooney did so he didnt cross the line.
Beckham did nothing wrong apart from getting smacked in the face by Fergie so I have no idea what you are on about there.

Rooney went too far and that is exactly why you see all the vitriol now.

And if you go through the Ronaldo thread from the time, you'll see the same comments, so your point is pretty pointless.

Yes. Ronaldo got Blatter involved. Just called him up and told him to speak his mind in the media. And the media of course only put forward what was said word for word.

Rio, Giggs, Rooney.

Shameful and most United fans like to think themselves above it, but it has definitely happened on at least 3 occasions.

I reckon you hate Rooney for reasons you can't entirely fathom yourself, and you're basically making shit up to justify the feeling.

 What have I made up?! Nothing at all - my rationale is there for all to see.

I think it is you who seems to be in denial about Rooney's unacceptable behaviour.

Are you taking it personally because you dread the prospect of having to take down your Rooney posters in your fanboi bedroom?
I'm no Rooney fan but I imagine you felt the same when Cristiano was pining for a move to Real?

You're one of the biggest agenda posters on here, we haven't missed you in your absence, honey. :)

Beckham was a long time ago, to be fair, but he was media whore from what I can recall. But there are other examples other than Rio, Best or Ronaldo. Keane shamed the club by publicly slagging the team off and was consequently hanged, drawn and quartered. As for Ronaldo, I didn't like his slave comments. But heh, maybe it shouldn't matter because he was a brilliant player for us and we received a penny or two for him. Same goes for Rooney, he's been a brilliant player for us, whether it's an acrimonious split a la Keane or something more mutual, it won't take away from how well he preformed at United for almost a decade.

Would people be more or less annoyed by Rooney if he had just come off a very good season as opposed to one of his lesser ones?
