Wayne Rooney | 2012-14 Performances

That's not strictly true is it? It's been hugely overplayed how much he was moved about when Ronaldo was about (although I do admit he had to do a lot of tracking back when Ronaldo allowed himself to be stranded in forward positions).

In 2009/10 he was a straight number 9. In 2010/11 he was a straight number 10. In 2011/12 he was again a number 10 apart from at the end of the season when he went back to being a number 9.

Rooney's overall performances have not justified the kind of status he has been given at United, especially since Ronaldo left. Instead of crying about it to Sir Alex he should have produced a few more City (a) showings this season.

He's scored the goals that carried this team since Ronaldo left, until this season. It's easy to say he's not as good as everyone thinks now he might be going, but fact is he is. Yeah, he's a bit of a twat, but he's a class player and if we sell him and don't replace him properly we'll be weaker for it.

Hernandez starting over Scholes?

I'm sure it's been discussed here over the last 45 minutes, but surely this can't be interpreted as anything other than confirmation that Rooney isn't playing with the stronger hand in his negotiations with United.

Roo may sign a new deal or he may be transferred. We shall see which it is.

Always thought Rooney was vastly over-rated because he's British, but his form has definitely dipped a fair bit and I honestly don't think he'd be as big of a loss now. You could bring in better players for less than you'd sell him for.

Plus the way he's treated United at times is disgraceful

Anyone think the club had told Sky to play that Scholes comment down?

Yes, it seemed really odd that he had to clarify that Scholes was joking.

He obviously was joking about how he was delighted by it, but the 'Rooney handing in a transfer request' was said as definitely as Ferguson retiring.

I don't disagree with any of that but saying the main reason for Rooney not scoring 30 goals this season is attitude is ridiculous. Even if Rooney was in the form of his life, he still would've been shifted when RVP came, simply because he's the more versatile player. History proves this.

You won't have two strikers in your team who have a season like RVP has done for us, one will always have to play second fiddle and their statistics will suffer as a result.

It's just wide of the mark focusing on his productivity, if anything thats the thing thats remained whilst his general play has suffered.

I disagree with the idea that being the man in behind as opposed to leading the line means Rooney was going to be 'second fiddle'. After Christmas in 2010/11 Rooney scored a ridiculous amount of goals and at that time he was playing off Hernandez and supplying him with the bullets. Rooney was of the few to come out of Wembley 2011 with reputation enhanced and if he was still playing like that he'd have started behind Van Persie as often as Van Persie has started up top.

The truth is Rooney's statistics haven't dwindled because of Van Persie. Rooney's touch, passing, control and ability to beat a man haven't gone from consistent to inconsistent because of Van Persie. Those are things that go when a player has stuff on their mind, when they're distracted. In so many games Rooney has just looked off. Rooney's ability is not the problem, he isn't playing at a 6-7 out of 10 level these days because he can't play at 9-10 out of 10 anymore. Rooney's problems are in his head and now we know what they are don't we?

If you piss off your manager, you don't play. Pretty simple. He might still have a future under Moyes, but it looks like he would have been in bother had Fergie been staying.

Scoring 30 goals means you're going to be the main goalscorer in the team, unless you're partnered with someone like Messi or Ronaldo. Expecting Rooney to do this, whilst having him play deep and influence the build up is asking a lot. The fact remains the only time Rooney has ever delivered those sorts of goalscoring figures is when he plays right up top, something which he hasn't done at all this season. It's just really harsh to point to his goalscoring record this season as something of a criticism - that's all I'm arguing.

I agree that his form has always suffered when his head isn't right, when everything was sorted out in 2010 he put in his best run of form in a United shirt for the second half of the season, whilst being awful for the first 5 months of the season. Lets hope he signs up again, and looks fresh again for next season. If not we ship him out and move on as different team. No big deal.

Even if his relationship with Moyes is good enough for him to stay, what's his relationship with the fans gonna be like? His popularity was already fairly dented by the last contract saga, now we have another apparent transfer request, still have contract negotiations to go through, on top of which he's had a relatively poor season that has led to fans speculating that he doesn't care, has a bad attitude and is past his best. Are the fans really gonna forget this? I think at this stage he should go, getting tired of the constant speculation surrounding him. With Moyes coming in a fresh start without Rooney might benefit us. New era, new team.

Maybe SAF didn't want potential booing of Rooney to disrupt his last game, Scholes' last game and the Premier League presentation...

Not even sure how this is relevant to his future to be honest. The manager is leaving in 2 games

If Rooney comes down for the presentation, which he will, Sky will hound him for an interview. Hopefully he gives it and answers, get it over and done with. fecking fed up of this

Even with his last time in charge of United, SAF is still SAF. He has not forgotten how Rooney held United to ransom. Now it's just a matter of which how much we can get from the transfer.

Hopefully he gets interviewed and gives some answers. Sick of all this now.

Watching these final scenes at the end of an era for both Ferguson and Scholes makes you realise how selfish Rooney's timing was, casting a slight shadow over proceedings. Does not deserve this club, honestly. Needs to go.

What did Scholes say?!

In a interview with Sky (Gary Neville) Scholes said he picked a good week to retire as all the talk has been about SAF leaving, he then went on to add "Rooney handing in a transfer request!" which will keep the cameras off him

It was all done in a joking manner but I think the way Scholes worded it wasn't best... unless he actually let slip (by mistake) that Rooney handed in a request

If Rooney has handed in a transfer request, then he can feck right off. This is Fergie's time and it would be a real shame if Rooney's antics blighted it.

if the reports are to be believed Rooney handed it in a while ago but its been talked about this week
