Wayne Rooney | 2012-14 Performances

Supposedly he made around 380 appearances for club an country by the time he was 24. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the coaches and fitness staff thought he has peaked and see this as the last opportunity to get decent money for him.

I remember reading that Rooney said it takes him a lot longer to recover from games and struggles to walk for the day after.

On the other hand, this could be total shite. Giggs could counter this argument.

Don't know where those Miguel Delaney quotes about Rooney are coming from but I'd be taking them with a massive grain of salt. They certainly aren't coming from a reliable source. I think its impossible to say what SAF's relationship is like with Rooney and whether or not it has soured since he tried to engineer a move away. I can understand SAF being frustrated with him coming back to preseason out of shape but I don't really think that's cause to move him on. In fact I'd say he's done well so far this season which has been interrupted by injuries. He's scored 14 and assisted 12 in all competitions playing in a deeper role behind RVP, to me an unfit player wouldn't be able to do that.

The only situation I can see us selling Rooney is if we sign Ronaldo, and as much as I want that, that's not happening.

Why would we sell one of our most important, versatile players as he reaches the peak of his career? It would make little sense from a footballing perspective and I doubt the Glazers would want to lose the commercial benefits Rooney brings to the club.

I hope SAF ends the speculation in today's press conference.

Its interesting the reaction to this possibility -- very tepid. Its amazing what a 'small misjudgment', albeit driven by his agent has made to the Caf nowadays.

Meh! seems the consistent response. Wayne burnt his bridges with many here including myself.

This entire non-story has been fabricated by the meedja on the back of Coleen's tweet. Nothing has come out the club regarding the boy Wayne. He's not going anywhere.

I can see him go. Only for a huge amount with some sort of a replacement lined up. I don't see why though. Not unless he wants to leave. Given the trouble the club went into keeping him I don't see him going unless he wants to. Who knows what a 50m offer will do. Hard to say flat out no to that kind of money.

Real's best chances in the first leg came down Rooney's side when he failed to track back.

Rooney is old enough to understand and respect the fact that his past performances are going to have consequences, even if he might be unhappy about it.

2 days ago the press were shocked that he was dropped.

Now they're all claiming to have the inside track on problems going back years.

Hmmmmm

We need the bullshit meter we used previously for these types of stories.

These threads aren't much fun these days.

I doubt we could replace him to be honest in the current market, so I wouldn't be in favour of weakening the squad in such a way.

If we sold him for £40m +, and put that towards getting Ronaldo back in his #7 shirt, then I'd have little problem I must say. Unlikely however.

People need to have some fecking faith in their own player. And that to one of our more important players who has a proven track record. He can still doing his job on any given day. He is still one of the best players around. Anyone else who thinks otherwise doesnt know football or is just plain stupid. I don't want him to leave like I've said before. And Im confident he is not going anywhere.

Also this shit about Ronaldo coming back? It aint going to happen and people need to forget about it. And we aint selling Rooney to get him back either. The media are fueling some shit to sell their papers and Ronaldo is milking it to get a better contract. This is not FIFA or FM. This is reality. Get a grip of yourselves!

After United willing to sell him for £20M, the Telegraph has come to the conclusion that the no other team could afford him, and hence there are no takers.

I think that confirms the bullshit-ness of it all. There is no way on this Earth that we'd let him go for £20m, absolutely no way whatsoever.

Sir Alex Ferguson says Wayne Rooney will be at Man Utd next season #ssn

Eat a dick, newspapers.

The press really are being ridiculously abusive at this point, half of them essentially sneering at Rooney because clubs like Barcelona and Real don't want him (of course they don't, he's not fecking available).

Why exactly does he put up with this? He should quit the national team, then the press will lose a substantial part of their interest in abusing him and the rest of the country can once again see the main reason this country will never again win anything.

Ferguson: 'Wayne Rooney will bé here next year. He understood exactly what we were doing (tactically v Real)"

Fergie: "The Wayne Rooney nonsense first? Or do you want to talk sense?" Rooney will be here next season "you have my word"

Thats a big middle finger to everyone who said he should leave or were 'confident' he was going to leave in the summer.

On Wayne Rooney

The Wayne Rooney nonsense first? Or do you want to talk sense? The issue you're all going on about is rubbish. There's absolutely no issue between Wayne Rooney and I. The suggestion we don't talk on the training ground is nonsense. The decision to not play him was purely tactical and he understood that. Wayne will be here next year. You have my word on that.

"The Wayne Rooney issue first?" he asked at the start of his press conference. "Or do you want to talk sense?

"The issue you're all going on about in the papers is absolute rubbish. I've banned two papers from the press conference and they won't get back in here until they apologise. There is absolutely no issue between Wayne Rooney and I. To suggest we don't talk to each other on the training ground is absolute nonsense.

"He understood the reasons for not playing him and that was completely tactical. And I think I was right. We don't always get it right but I think we did get it right. Danny Welbeck is the best player we have in terms of operating in a double role. We had to choke Xabi Alonso's ability to control the game, which Danny did, and that took away Alonso's control of the game and his ability to go further forward and be an attacking player. We don't always get it right but we definitely did on Tuesday."

Good! Hopefully this will be an end to this nonsense now.

What the hell are MUST on about? in our best interests to let him go

Quick, everybody grab the chance to attack MUST... look at the outrageous things so-called fan Duncan Drasdo has said:

"We always back Sir Alex Ferguson's judgment in the end and, if he did decide to let him go, then that's probably the right decision in the best interest of the club.

"It was such a big match for Ferguson – it could be his last season for all we know. I don't think he would have picked a side for any other reason than it was the best side that might get the best result.

"It's crazy to think that he would snub a player by not playing him in a match like that. In the cases of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Jaap Stam and David Beckham it was more difficult to see the tactical argument for dropping them but I think people could see it in this case. As supporters, though, I don't think many would like to see Rooney go."

My God, the man is surely the devil incarnate?

Nice! Exactly what they deserved.

That is just freaking awesome.

I hope Fergie manages us for the next 25 years. Love him.

And by apologise, I hope Fergie means a statement in their paper admitting the shit string they were creating.
