Because we need a much better starting RB than them both and AWB has the most resale value.

Again, many fans don’t feel like RB is the biggest deal right now - ultimately why? Because AWB has been performing to quite a good standard (I think he’s been great but that’s an opinion many don’t agree with). This is with them thinking a ST, GK, CM and CB are priorities.

I guess if I was the manager - Id try to keep a strong squad as much as we can - City have Walker, Stones, Akanji and Lewis playing RB, competing for that 1 spot.

One of the most disappointing players that I’ve seen this season as it progressed is Malacia.

We had to use him as a LB both when we played a back 3 with Shaw or when Martinez was injured.

He was okay but nothing was really there on the pitch.

Dalot was better at LB but has arguably been nothing the last 5 months at RB.

It depends if Ten Hag wants that and will use his better performing players to fund a New single good player but keep the shit back up players just to make numbers.

I guess we haven’t really seen enough of Ten Hags proper transfer windows to know his style - but I have liked the way he has slowly phased out Maguire & Mctominay out of the club.

Maybe we keep them and ditch Lindelof because he has more value on the market.

Sell when stocks are high.

Both AWB and Dalot are decent but not good enough for team with title aspiration, if anyone want to pay good money for any of them, we should take it and invest the money in players with more potential.

Why? Because we don’t have the same quality of right back that can offer what our left back is offering. Meaning, we can do with someone better. If there is an offer from other club then we need to consider the offer, may be even negotiate to increase the offer and sell, then use the money to buy new one. Moreover, we are lacking players with high xA, so if a club is coming wanting to buy AWB then we should be open to sell and replace him.

I'd be willing to let him leave on a free if it came to it. AWB is the kind of player you let go only after getting a proven replacement.

If the new RB comes in and is Dalot levels when bad we would be in trouble. He is also the type you would want as part of the squad as he didn't kick up a farce when he wasn't starting. His unique tacking abilities make him important in certain games.

Yeah I agree but again AWB is better than Dalot in both attacking and defending.

So this is more about who we look to sell (Dalot) - and who we do sell if we receive an offer worth near their transfer value.

But still primarily look to sell Dalot.

Same with Maguire & Lindelöf. Lindelof has easily been the better player - we look to sell Maguire with all we have yet we will sell Lindelof if a good transfer offer comes our way near his transfer value.

I can agree with that.

It’s not about who we should look to sell, it’s about who we can sell. If no one wants to buy or offering more money on Dalot, but if west ham are in to buy AWB then obviously we have to sell AWB.

He's had a decent 6 months, but let's not get ahead of ourselves with him. If we can get a good offer for him, it's time to cash in.

Dalot has a higher potential and can play on both sides, if we're keeping one it should obviously be Dalot. I'd like to see Alvaro Fernandez get some game time next season.

A new RB would be nice, but it's less important than Striker, GK and No 8.

We need a new right back for sure. But I don't mind Wan Bisakka, I'd like to keep him, good attitude, excellent defender. So bad with the ball with his feel though apart from the odd Zidane moment. Surprised he's never been given a go at CB. Considering he's the anti-Trent

Yeah so it’s all about chances and about who is interested. If no one is interested in Maguire - then there’s a big chance we have to sell Lindelof who is the squad’s better player.

Then we use Lindelöf’s money to buy Kim but are possibly still left with Maguire.

It’s not really up to our control & is dependent on the other teams interest in our players.

Dalot had a better first half of the season, and a good world cup. Wan-Bissaka has enjoyed the better second half of the season. I'd sell whichever of the two we can get the most for, both have their uses as squad players.

Wan-Bissaka, to be fair, has really earned some respect over the past 6 months. I remember that going into January, he wasn't playing and there wasn't any chance that we could get a decent fee for him.

Not only has he pushed hard to win a place in the first 11, if we were to sell him now, he can actually get us a decent sum. If Ten Hag is convinced that Wan-Bissaka isn't going to improve further, we should sell him when we can get some value rather than wait for things to deteriorate.

If either AWB or Dalot can be sold for good money, they definitely should be moved on as they are both massively upgradable despite some patches of good form.

However we're terrible as a selling club, and neither player would be wanted by a club looking to splash the cash so I imagine both will stay.

I dont think EtH really like either (Dalot/AWB).

I think we could see us like this next year:

Frimpong/Timber - Lindelof/Varane/Martinez - Shaw/Malacia

It would leave us a bit short at CB, but with two fullback options that is excellent options at CB too (Timber/Shaw). It would leave us with seven players to cover eight positions. But seven players that we would use frequently!

Yes.

So if we have the chance to sell then we need to sell and in this scenario West ham are reported to be interested to sign AWB means the club is right and must to be open to sell. We shouldn’t be rejecting a decent or good offer from clubs that want to buy players who clearly not on the level where we need them to be. Another example, if a club is offering shaw then we can reject but if club is offering good money to sign malacia then we should sell and use the money to buy replacement (if there is someone that can replace him). In the right back scenario, there is frimpong so there is a right back available in the market.

There’s no way we go into a season with 3 recognised centre backs

We have to sell him, we cant keep falling into this trap where a player has a good few months after years of under performing and we get excited and offer them a 5 year contract.

Yes, he's improved but he still isn't the attacking RB we need.

If anything his recent improvement should get us a few more $$ to re-invest.

Timber is recognised Centre Back that's the position where he has primarily made his name at .

Shaw is also a very good CB. So it would have been five. My concern would be Varane injury history. Ideally you would want someone with a better injury history than him in this setup.

Maybe we could bring in a really cheap fourth choice. Similar to Liverpool with Nat Phillips or Klavan. Daley Blind is available for free this summer.

Ajax don’t want to sell so I think it’s best to look elsewhere or we will end up in an Antony situation

Shaw is a LB he’s filling in where he shouldn’t be because Maguire is rubbish and we don’t have anyone else to fill that position. Our Left side is weakened significantly when he slots in at CB

He’s not too far off. Dalot looks more comfortable on the ball, but hardly does anything with it.

Dalot’s is just a smooth dribbler so many think he is technically and attacking wise better.

That's a different argument altogether but if I am not mistaken his stock seem to have fallen a bit this season and after keeping him last summer they might be more amenable to him leaving .

AWB has come leaps and bounds from where he was at the start of the season. He's improved massively and I'm all for giving him more time.

You can argue that their end product (goals and assists) is comparable but Dalot is far better at other aspects. Just look at their heat maps for example, Dalot is far more attacking than AWB who tends to play much deeper.

I’d prefer to sell Dalot. With Wan Bissaka, at least he is excellent defensively and could be used tactically. You couldn’t upgrade on him defensively but with dalot he’s kind of solid at both but could be upgraded on.
would be nice to get a full back who could regularly beat his man and cross well.
But far from the main priorities I think.

He is not excellent defensively though. For most of his career he has been an excellent tackler, a poor defender and awful in attack. In the last 3 months he has been an excellent tackler, an average defender and mediocre in attack. Improved a lot but from a very low baseline.

Drop off between Malacia and Shaw is quite stark to be honest that would be my biggest issue using Shaw as back up for Martinez along with Varane's injury history .

This has been our problem for years. Giving time to mediocre players . He isn't good enough for us. Use this time to sell him for nice price.

i disagree. he's an excellent tackler, one of the best in the league. there are far more pressing priorities to move on than AWB and we should only sell if the right offer comes in.

Being excellent tracker isn't a criteria for our setup. We need more than just a tackler.

All Dalot seems to do is try to get within range and try his luck at goal. He’s supposed to be more attacking, but he’s a total non-threat despite his positioning.

Thats a bit harsh. He’s probably the best in the world at one on one defending. Incredible tackler as you said.
He wasn’t great at back post defending but has improved on that in the last 6 months. He has been decent aerially too this season.
My point is that you could use him to nullify a winger in certain games, whereas Dalot is about average in attack and defence.

I agree. But when would we use Shaw at CB? If we had three CBs out. Then we would be down at 4th choice. If Varane and Martinez was out injured we could play Lindelof and Timber. If Lindelof or Timber was out too, we would play Shaw next to Lindelof/Timber.

And I think it is natural to see a drop if you have three players out in the same position.

I think it is a really flexible setup. But bringing in a really cheap fourth CB, like Blind, could also be an idea.

That's fair enough as long as Team Hag only uses Shaw as last resort as Emergency back up this set up should work well in theory .

I’m really not sure if we have any guarantee for that no matter what we do. He likes him there. And he also appear to trust Malacia.

What the fans feel is irrelavent. If he wants fullbacks that attack and can tuck into midfield to create control, it doesnt matter if the existing player performed well if they can’t do what is required.

I agree with this sentiment. The guy is literally impossible to dribble past. He can be coached to get to even higher level offensively . He is still suspect defending the back post. But given that we have so many riches upfront we should definitely look to keep AwB and maybe cash in on Dalot.

Dalot on the other hand seems to have regressed after the world cup/injury.

Don't think selling AwB is a priority as it was last summer.
