Walcott Next Out The Door?

If they'd just done this deal in the summer they'd have probably gotten him for less, I reckon.

That is desperation from Arsenal. Walcott on 100k per week?!

Yes but we've got the money. The shitstorm if he'd not signed would have been worse so it's all value in the end. He's still a decent player who can improve and somebody that adds to the British core of the squad.

£100k a week and a £3m signing-on bonus? Well in Theo.

I'd love it if Wenger stuck him out on the right wing every week now that he's gotten him to sign the contract.

The obvious problem now, is that Walcott isn't one of the best players in the country.

Arsenal need players who are to improve them, so automatically, they'll ask 100ka week + now.

Nice one Arsenal.

Where is drunken master Yoda?

Ass has been wumming on here forever about how Rooney blackmailed our club and now that Shiteo Walcott blackmails Arsenal to a 100K contract plus a hefty signing bonus, he is nowhere to be seen.

I demand a storey from the Mr. BitterStorey.

£100K is about the going rate for Wally, the 'siging-on fee', makes it nearly £120K

Arsenal got themselves into a bad position... but the other option was letting him go on a free.
They can keep him for 18 months and sell him next summer for 10m and still make a profit on the whole thing...

They need the/a player.. they had one. Cheaper to pay him and keep him than signing someone of his ability for 10+m and giving him 60k.

From winning championships to getting blackmailed by Wally. The last 7 years have been real eye opener for Gooner fans.

Mid table spenders pulling above their weight while still charging fans exhorbitant admission prices. Thank You, Come again!

They way most Arsenal fans were desperate for him to sign says it all. 18 months ago they'd have packed his bags for him.

He's laughing all the way to the bank with that shiney new contract. He isn't worth a penny more than the 75K a-week Arsenal allegedly previously valued him at.

Young is on 100k? Source?

Pretty sure i read less before.

What's happened to Walcott? He's actually playing well. He obviously has terrific pace, but now he scores goals and assists on a fairly regular basis. How would you guys rank him compared to Chicarito?

One assist and one goal thus far today!

He's been playing well for the best part of 18 months to be fair, be it upfront or on the wings. I made the Walcott thread in the newbies section saying how well he was doing but 90% of this forum in both the newbies and mains tends to think he's shit. The thought of signing Walcott in January was laughed off, he's never going to be world class but he's easily good enough to be part of any squad in the premier league.

He's been on and off, but this year he seems to have raised his game and become more consistent. How would you rank him compared to Hernandez and Welbeck?

As a winger, I'd put him ahead of both. As a striker, behind Hernandez and probably slightly above Welbeck. It's hard to do a straight comparison because he's not played often enough at his natural position.

I think Welbeck will end up better than Hernandez and that both Welbeck and Walcott have lots of potential whereas Hernandez is closer to his peak. I would not think twice about swapping Walcott for either of yours, he's an established winger who you can mark down for 8-12 goals and 8-12 assists every year. Maybe he has potential as a striker, maybe not. But his current production on the wing is more than good enough.

Fair enough.

I don't think Hernandez is close to peaking. His overall play has improved massively this season. His first touch is better, he has shown he can dribble and he is still one of the most lethal strikers in front of goal in the PL. As a winger, Walcott is obviously a lot better - even faster also. Neither are prolific dribblers. This season, I think it's very close between the two players in terms of contribution. Walcott may just edge it, but he probably has more playing time also?

Welbeck may be a better striker with more strings to play. He is stronger, more technical and still quite speedy. He isn't clinical enough, and as a winger he doesn't assist enough because his final ball is too poor. In the future, I would think he will eclipse Walcott as a striker. This season, I think Walcott is the better player.

How are things going for Walcott? I wonder if anyone would have had any interest in this guy this summer. I didn't hear any rumours so far.

He was talking about signing a couple of players & competing for the title the other day - so I doubt he's looking to move. Maybe he did a Rooney in the end & just wanted more money??? That's what I'd guess anyway.

Unfortunately he seems to have become one of the more important players in our side now. Says more about us than it does about him.

Undeniably though, he's become a quite good footballer. Not in terms of overall contribution to the build-up perhaps, but in terms of his productivity.

He really did seem like a much more rounded player last season. Consistent contribution to the play, consistent end product in terms of both goals and assists. With our wingers all over the place last season, he'd have been starting for us no problem.

I felt when I watched him last season I got the impression that his finishing has improved. Though still an immensely frustrating player.

He signed a new contract in January so doubt anyone is in for him

He played well for a lot of last season but is still too inconsistent - sometimes in two halves of same game.

Should he not be picked up front full time now? His best form seemed to come after being given games up front and scoring goals

We play 4231 and he can't play the lone striker role. He's finally learned when to arrive in the middle a la classic Ljungberg.
