Virgil van Dijk | Performances

The more I watch him the more I think his days of being comfortably the worlds best CB are over. Put a competent CDM in front of him and he’ll still be top 5/10 but the injuries look to have done him in, that lackadaisical style of defending looks more and more carless by the game.

When people said "aura defending " I thought it was just a joke. The number of times he simply watches people shoot is incredible.

Yup. He doesn't really seem to close down as often as he should.

bet he’s glad he’s been saving himself all season for this

The non-run up was horrible, with that stance there's only one side you go to for power. If you're going to go slow at least do the Bruno run up to keep the keeper guessing. Not sure what he was thinking

Thought that was a great save from Martinez personally, although a short step and shot like that to me normally indicates that it's going to the keeper's right.

Between the two teams, I was rooting for the Dutch, but if they had to go out, I'm glad it was Van Dijk's fault. Always happy to see his confidence take a beating. I hope it affects his form for the rest of the season.

That's why I don't think it's that great a save. Comfortable height as well. Martinez didn't have to do anything out of the ordinary for a top level goalkeeper.

On that kind of angled and short run up, I'd always want my keeper to go right. Sure, the taker could disguise it and play it left, but you play the percentages.

Ofcourse it wasnt a perfect penalty but i would praise Martinez for saving it than blaming Virgil for missing it.

Took responsibility as captain, said he trained on penalties and scored them all. Too bad he missed this one. He scored that penalty in the league cup final so its not like he is clueless when taking a penalty.

didnt think he had a great World Cup though. The saving himself for the World Cup and therefor not being great for Liverpool turned out to be made up nonsense.

Seems like Pickford his assault did damage him as a player. Hasnt been as good as he was pre injury.

Dirty scouse but at least he did not hide from responsibility.
It is easy to talk big and then hide like a coward and do some young player dirty.

Acts like he's Rio or Nesta when in reality he's just a better Richard Dunne. Liverpool fans calling him the best ever is maybe the mostr embarassing football moment in years. Guy is fecking useless. Even his 'dribbled against' stat was because he is shit scared of making a tackle. A slightly better Lindelof is all he is.

Hate to see his smug face if he was actually at the highest level because he looks like he loves his own farts already. Just another Pool player that we had to hear was the 'best'. Put him with Owen, Redknapp, Fowler and the rest of their 'top' players in a pile. Mane, Alisson and Salah are the only actual ones.

When did Liverpool fans call him the best ever? I never saw that.

looks finished. He had a prime that lasted 2-3 seasons. He lost pace now. His positioning was never great.

Cannot believe this guy got compared to Ramos.

Was pathetic defending at one point yesterday when Messi dribbled at him. Instead of even trying to defend, he just pushed him over with 2 hands in a dangerous area, couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Has to be the most overrated defender of all time. Three good seasons and washed at 31.

@GifLord we need gif of that run against Brentford player from halfway line, he looked slower than Maguire. It was before the first goal I think around 19. minute if I got that right.

Hope Wonder Woman gets her Invisible Plane back in one piece after he has finished towing it around tonight.

Looked like hungover Harry Maguire trying to catch Mbeumo just before their first one.
